Andy Lau Drops Glamorous Image in “Lost and Love”
In new movie Lost and Love <失孤>, Andy Lau (劉德華) will drop his glamorous image and portray a farmer who embarks on a 15-year long journey to search for his abducted son. Directed by Peng Sanyuan (彭三源), Lost and Love opens in Mainland China on March 20.
During the initial casting process for the film, Peng Sanyuan revealed that Huayi Brothers rejected her request to cast Andy in the main role. Huayi had said that having the superstar portray a wandering vagabond seemed out of place. Peng Sanyuan argued that Andy has been the top Asian idol for 30 years, and seeing Andy going through an image change would create wide public interest.
Andy had no qualms about the role and immediately accepted the offer. Peng Sanyuan said if it were not for Andy, the film would not have been made.
For the film, Andy traveled around China, including rural areas and developed cities. Due to the film’s open set, many fans were able to witness Andy filming the movie. Portraying a farmer in the movie, Andy would be seen covered in dirt, crouching on the streets and eating dry bread. Andy joked, “I’m not acting. That’s really me!” He also joked that he mastered the technique to use his mouth to eat food and shoo away flies at the same time.
In one striking scene, Andy was slapped multiple times in the face by a crowd of workers. Peng Sanyuan said that in order to make the shot convincing, the actors had to film the scenes at least three times to convey the proper angles.
Lost and Love will open in China on March 20. The film also stars Jing Boran. Tony Leung Ka Fai (梁家輝) and Sandra Ng (吳君如) make cameo appearances.

Nothing personal towards Andy. But I feel he should share his family with his fan. All these years being secretive and hidden from the public. In a very unpopular phrase will be “Watch my movies, buy my CDs, come to my concerts & endorse me with your products. But don’t come near my family”.
Unless exposing her daughter and wife will invite Hong Kong gangster triads to kidnap them. But hello Andy, you can hire top bodyguards. Sharing your family with your fans is the biggest joy they can have after all these years they had supported you. Look at Wang Lee Hom, what a gentleman and outstanding person he is. Sharing her wife with all his beloved fans.
The problem is not that Andy is unwilling to ‘share’ his family with fans and the media.
The problem is that people (like you for example) begrudge the man his privacy.
Perhaps the guy’s a bit paranoid and over-protective, but can you blame him?? You think he has a responsibility to ‘share’ and ‘expose’ his family. Rather than keeping his family safe with anonymity, you think it’s better to have bodyguards surround them 24/7 just for your and his other fans’ entertainment. The guy is a celebrity. Buying his CDs, watching his movies, going to his concerts, etc. that’s your choice. He doesn’t owe you anything, least of all his family.
You really need to get a life and start a family of your own and stop preying on his.

Every person deserves right to privacy. Andy Lau has been a public figure for a very long time and the only way to protect his family in having personal freedom is not exposing them to the public and LEAD A NORMAL LIFE for them as much as possible. Thats the least he could do for his wife and daughter!

Andy could be more than paranoid and overprotective of what had prescribed on him, but he still let his fan down! You must also remember being a famous celebrity for many years like Andy, it is no more a matters of privacy. I will say Wang Lee Hom and Andy with their respective family. Even though Andy is paranoid and overprotective. Of course we knew Edison Chen, we reject him. We knew all these related matters about them because privacy is no longer on their shoulders! What we want is to look up to a good role model for our community.
His face looks dark, but there is no emotion to it. Like it’s all the makeup, you don’t feel he’s tired, ragged, emotionally wear out. Idk I’m not really feeling it from Andy. The 2nd trailer half way through then turn to a hollywood kinda movie -.-????
I do feel that Andy is tired and haggard in the pictures in this movie. I think he looks old and unattractive. Andy is a city person in real life, not a farmer. He looks handsome in real life, therefore, he needs some make-up effect as well. This is normal. Just like some actors / actresses need make-up to help them look like elderly.

Andy is friendly with his fans but he draws the line on his personal life. Admittedly he is absolute control freak with his family. Whilst fans have no right to demand access to his family he certainly created the fuss himself. He would have better serve himself and his need for privacy and his fans curiosity by using the social media. The media circus surrounding his father in laws funeral was in part caused by him. Not saying fans have rights to demand anything but he could have better managed it all.at the end of the day it is not a need to protect his family but rather his need to be in total and absolute control.
Hey Funn, yes, Andy is friendly with his fans and this is good enough. We all know many things about his family, perhaps except a picture of his daughter. We already know what his wife looks like in pictures and we know how old she is. I don’t think it’s fair to criticize Andy for not sharing, as everything has already published. Well to be fair,Andy is not the only celeb to not show their children’s photos. Stefenie Sun and her husband did not show any photos of her son except for a hand too. Some of you mentioned Leehom, but even he only showed just a photo of his daughter’s feet.Stefenie refused to even reveal her son’s name. Andy at least shared his daughter’s name. He talks about his daughter and wife at times, even though it may not be as open as some want,but he still does. He even baked a cake for her birthday which was very sweet. But if course haters are just going to hate.
The public never seems to be pleased. Whenever any couple shares too much,they get criticized for being too high profile and attention seeking. But when they are a bit too low profile, they get crticized for being secretive and deceitful. Sigh… Life as a celeb is truly hard. However,I wonder why do many always must aim at and blast Andy?

How do you know that he is protecting his family just because he wants to be in control only? Homesty,which guys do not want to be In some control over their family,especially If they are the main breadwinner. We all know men are just generally more aggressive by nature. Even if he did want control,he means well and just wants to protect his family which I do not find is wrong. Sure it would be great to have more freedom to come and go as you please,but I guess that is one the prices that celebs and their families must pay for being in the spotlight or for being involved with anyone in the spotlight.
I have noticed that celebs whom are more sharing in many cases are ones who married someone in the circle. But ones who married people from outside the circle are generally more low profile since they are not used to being in the public eye. Hey,but of course it really varies from couple to couple.

It looks like a very touching movie. Am very excited. Its been a long while since I’ve seen Andy. The Last one I watched was “A Simple Life” 桃姐http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Simple_Life, directed by Ann Hui and that movie was sooooo good !!! Deserved all the awards that the movie won and nominated for !

Well, I am not trying to defend Andy or anything but I recently had a newborn in February. Prior when the baby was born I was like I going to post pictures of her on Facebook like other parents do to share the joy of having a baby. However, after the baby was born I didn’t do it. Suddenly, it occur to me that if I was the baby I might not want my pictures to be posted on Facebook. What parents think is cute the baby might find it embarrassing when they grow up.
P.S. On the movie, it looks like it will be a good one. I will look for it when it is out.
People need to stop getting on Andy’s back. You aren’t in his shoes and here you act like what’s best for him. If you have walked the path he has then by all mean critique him. But obviously none of you have. You use your own social and personal perception to judge a person because you think you know what’s best. Please move on!
