Chilam Cheung to Release New Album “Déjà vu” on January 29

After signing a new music contract with Star Entertainment last year, Chilam Cheung (張智霖) immediately began recording for his new studio album. Chilam will release his full-length album, Déjà vu, on January 29, 2014.

Chilam was actively involved in the production of the album by choosing all eight songs – including one hiden track. Following the theme of “déjà vu”, all the songs in the album are covers of old and new Chinese pop classics. He was also involved in the album filming cover, and asked a close friend to lend him an antique Ferrari that is worth over $100 million HKD. It took Chilam and his photography crew 20 hours to complete the entire album and photo book shoot. The official cover of the album was also chosen by Chilam himself, who was given over 1,000 photos to choose from.

In regards to why he called the album Déjà vu, Chilam said, “I’ve always been saving up a few classic golden pop songs that I like, and I always wanted to have the chance to perform them using my own interpretations. I really want to thank my record label for supporting my idea. If not, this album would not happen!”

The hidden track in the album is “In My Voice” <我的歌聲裡>, a song originally by Wanting Qu (曲婉婷). Chilam revealed, “When I was almost done with the album, I discovered that ‘In My Voice’ didn’t really fit with the rest of my songs, but I really liked the song. I didn’t want to let it go, so I suggested to my company to put it in my album as a hidden track. Keep it as a surprise for some fans!”

Now available for pre-order, Chilam’s Deja vu will be released on January 29, 2014.
