Adia Chan to Make TVB Comeback in April
Forty-four-year-old Adia Chan (陈松伶) left TVB to develop a career in Mainland China in 2006, after completing her last TVB production, Trimming Success <飞短留长父子兵>. After her marriage to Zhang Duo (张铎) in 2011, Adia began to gradually fade out of the spotlight and shifted her focus to business ventures instead.
About three months ago, Adia jointly invested in a six-figure sum in a lingerie business with cosmetics guru Cheng Ming Ming (郑明明). The investment has recently begun to see returns, and Adia finally feels ready to make a comeback in the entertainment industry.
Aware of Adia’s intentions to return to the television screen, TVB executive Virginia Lok (乐易玲) reached out to Adia to ask her to film one drama per year. TVB is also willing to be flexible with scheduling demands. Once Adia signs the contract, she will like start filming in April.
Adia confirmed that she has been in negotiations with TVB, as her heart remains in Hong Kong, and she is still in touch with many of her old friends at the station. Adia would however only make a comeback after losing 10 pounds, so that she would not frighten the audience.
Virginia Lok added that Adia is in good shape and is keen to return to TVB. TVB would select a role and co-stars that are suitable for Adia, and accommodate her schedule. Virginia emphasized that the details of the arrangements are yet to be finalized.

It would be a good idea to have both act in the same drama series as sisters, or same character (one for the young age and one for the older age). They look very much alike.

What makes tvb think that asking all these has-been artistes back is going to boost viewership ratings? Look at LOS. The ratings are only on par with the average tvb dramas without big names like Anthony helming them lol. What a waste of resources! Should invest in better script writers instead.
@isay LOS has pretty high rating. It is higher than some series with only TVB managed artists. At least it is still in top 10.
But I agree that TVB need better scripts. They dont need to send artists to film oversea or invest in lame CGI. Reality proved that the CGI of TVB is still terrible as ever despite the investment. Cant stop laughing at how fake the CGI was in some TVB series of 2015, especially the ancient ones.
@alluka wow! Thx for the new definition of “pretty high” ratings. I didn’t know that avg 25 points for a drama starring an acclaimed movie star a 3 time tvb king and an old tiger was considered high. I would hv expected more . I believe that I’m not asking for too much if i expected at least 28 to 29 points given tvb mediocre records these days. We learn something new every day don’t we? @isay When TVB celebrates high rating for series averaged at 25, you will know that 25 is high rated. If I remember right, last year the highest rated series was 26.7 averaged. LOS landed in 9th place of top 10 rating, which is not too bad. Amongst 4 anniversary series, LOS has the highest rating. So I give it some credit.
On the other hand, even the series only landed 10th in top 10 rating can have sequel and being described as a classic series. Therefore, LOS is a successful in the view of TVB. Next year, who know if TVB will make a sequel of LOS and also put it in classic series award list. TVB is always weird. Successful or not, it is depending on how TVB pay the favourism card to a specific series.
I dont expect for fantastic CGI. I expected normal CGI because TVB claimed that they will invest in CGI for some series. But those series have super lame CGI that make me laugh so hard whenever I see the trailers on myTV. In fact, I dont watch those series. Only few times when I switched channels I saw parts of those series and all the time, the CGI was unacceptable. If TVB really invested in the CGI as they said, there was a corruption.
@alluka I think I’ve mentioned before that until some people can come right out and say what they actually want to say directly I will not bother to reply further than necessary. Black can turn to white depending on how some people twist. 9th spot for an expensive and highly anticipated production with superb cast which raked in a pretty high rating of avg 24.6 points is indeed a great achievement. Bravo TVB! Way to go!

For TVB, they gave Brother Keeper which was landed as 10th series in top series a sequel and in classic series award list. So LOS, maybe 2 years later, will have a sequel and in classic series award list. It means TVB considered LOS as a successful series.

All 4 anniversary series this year are invested much but LOS is the only one that managed to get the praises for acting, scenes and script. The other 3 were said to be bad at script and scenes despite outside filming, CGI investment, etc.. LOS is the highest one amongst 4. TVB put so much money on the anniversary series, they want to make at least one as a successful one. LOS is the only series that can fulfill the requirements so TVB gave it Best series. Not many people complained about that award because other than rating, LOS did well.
You imply that Im twisting the fact about LOS? Black is still black, LOS is still successful even if it only landed in 9th place. If LOS didnt deserve it award due to its low rating, COD who won best series in Malaysia and Singapore didnt deserve as well because COD is even out of top 10 rating, landed 12th or 13th something. Bravo TVB!
When I said I dont watch any series, I said it directly and honestly. The only TVB series that I finished in 2015 was the one with Moses and Joyce Coi. The other ones, I dont watch or finish in the middle due to their boringness.
If you can say why you think LOS isnt an achievement, say it directly. Just because its rating is low (although its rating isnt too low)? I dont think so. So you can go right out to and say what you actually want to say directly as well.

To me i expected much more out of los given its strong cast and the high hopes tvb pinned on it. To rank at no 9 is considered fail by me. Obviously we hv different definition of high ranking. All i said was that the series didn’t do as well as expected given the resources it had. You’re the one who’s out of topic bringing in deserving what not. Ratings and deserving or not are 2 different issues. Dont try to put words in my mouth. Granted los is ranked higher than cod but barely too. Cod 24.4 vis a vis los 24.6. Is that heaven and earth difference? Hardly even if you choose to paint it as such. At the end of the day tvb invested in big names which didn’t give the expected high returns that’s all I’m saying.
@isay Not heaven and earth but With or Without You in the middle. Maybe the difference is just like from Hongkong island to New Territories with Kowloon in the middle. And it costs about HK$700 to go by taxi. Easily.
At the end of the day, TVB successfully invested in LOS. For others, I dont comment because it is up to each specific series. LOS is still the winner of Best series and Anthony still brings the quality acting to TVB series.
@alluka That works out to an earth shattering 12000 or so viewers. Hardly enough to fill the hk coliseum or thereabouts. Anyway the rankings are all pretty close. Even the top drama wasn’t that much higher.

12000 is enough for HKC because concerts in HKC only can contain from 8000 to 14000 seats. That is why famous singers need to sell tickets for at least 3 nights. For the shows in Star Arena, it only has 4000-6000 seats. That much of viewer can be 3 nights of shows in Star Arena.

I would have made that comment about LOS less than stellar rating regardless of whether it won the BD or not cos honestly I was really surprised that it fared no better than the standard TVB dramas. Ok, I will take your word that LOS is deserving to win. As it won Best series, it proved that inviting veterans/old artists back to TVB is a wise decision because the veterans/old artists will bring the quality to the series as much as it make a deserving winner for Best series.
And since LOS is successful, the investment of TVB hasnt been wasted. Its rating can be just in 9th place but its fame helps TVB to earn money from advertisements, sponsorship and else. It is worth the investment.
Anyway, as long as you say LOS is deserving, I have no problem with you. You can say its rating is bad, the fact is still there: Its rating isnt bad.
@alluka the ratings are bad by my definition . Deserving or not i can’t comment cos i gave up after 2 episodes. However it’s the viewers’ choice. By the same token cod is the viewers’ choice in both Singapore and Malaysia. That is a fact that can’t be changed like it or not.

@alluka In short, you have no proof either until you show me the pics and i expect to see it for 3 DIFFERENT weeks not just one pic (that is, pics showing position as at week 1, week 2, week 3). Starhub will not be so stupid to post pic of Moses winning 3x in a row but not give the prize to him. And isn’t it strange that Linda also had the crown 3x in a row , same as Mo which would lead one to suspect that you’ve probably seen the same pic and thought it happened 3x. I remember quite clearly that first week for males was Moses and second week was Bosco . No way Moses won 3x.
@isay & @alluka: I’m not defending isay…but I did see the crown once on Bosco and once on Moses. Not sure this crown thingy went on for how many weeks in the Starhub poll though. In fact, I was surprised to see the crown on Moses as I didn’t know he has so many supporters in Singapore….
@isay & @alluka: Actually, I recalled that Starhub did not diligently indicate the crown on the Most Fave artist every week. I don’t remember seeing the crown on any artist during the first couple of weeks in fact….
@lml1977 i searched my records and you’re right. Starhub only indicated the prelim results twice and thereafter stopped giving updates nearer the closing date.
