Chinese Fantasy Drama “Novoland: The Castle in the Sky” Releases 13 Character Posters
Ice Fantasy <幻城> is not the only high fantasy television drama that will be airing this summer. This epic series about icy, celestial clans may go in direct competition with Novoland: The Castle in the Sky <九州·天空城>, which is confirmed to premiere in July this year on Jiangsu TV.
Unlike previous Chinese fantasy television dramas, which were mostly adapted from popular novels, Novoland: The Castle in the Sky is an original story created for Shanghai Film Media Asia and Tencent Penguin Pictures. The series is set in an ancient world where humanity is separated into several races, and centers on the souring relations between the powerful Ren (Human) Tribe and the Yu (Winged) Tribe, a race of angelic humans who have the ability of flight.
The Yu Tribe live in a floating citadel, a “castle in the sky” on top of the Gushe Mountain. Their superhuman abilities are the cause of much envy among other tribes, but when the castle gets attacked, the Yu Tribe immediately puts the blame on the humans. Yi Fuling, a human, becomes the number one suspect, but Feng Tianyi, heir of the Yu Tribe, believes that there’s more to the attack than meets the eye.
On March 6, Novoland: The Castle in the Sky unveiled a batch of character posters for its main cast, starring Zhang Ruoyun (张若昀) as the Yu King Feng Tianyi, Guan Xiaotong (关晓彤) as Yi Fuling, Liu Chang (刘畅) as Prince Bai Tingjun, SNH48’s Ju Jingyi (鞠婧祎) as the Yu Queen Xue Feishuang, Chen Ro-hsuan (陈若轩) as Feishuang’s brother Yu Huanzhen, and Edward Zhang (张鲁一) as Ji Shu, a palace official.

O_o These photo must be highly photoshop. I’m not talking about the background, wings and stuff. I’m referring to their faces. If you stack the pics on top of each other. I swear the shape of their face will be a perfect match throughout. Long and pointy o.O It’s freaky…
Only 20 eps? I’m surprised! Too bad the story isn’t appealing to me. It’s too Western-y. Wings/angels. Heaven/Olympus. Oh well.
@jjwong
copying goes both ways. Hollywood fantasy flicks appropriate Chinese wuxia elements and hairstyling.
HK fight choreographers taught Hollywood stunt people how to do wireworks, vastly improving the quality of their action films.
@msxie0714 I never said anything about copying. Just the story sounds too Western style. Of course both sides influenced, burrowed or whatever of one another and other cultures.
Novoland castle in the sky? Not Laputa Castle In The Sky?
@funnlim HA! Laputa was the first thing came to mind when I read the title too. After reading the synopsis though, they’re completely apples and oranges. Lol.
