Kenneth Ma Doesn’t Believe in Casual Dating: “It’s a Waste of Money”
With TVB lacking lead male actors, Kenneth Ma (馬國明) is stepping up to the podium as the station’s next Number One star.
With Raymond Lam’s (林峯) departure from TVB, Ron Ng (吳卓羲) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) focusing more on Mainland dramas, TVB is now relying on Kenneth. Over the last decade, Kenneth has slowly become a household name. However, the idea of becoming TVB’s Number One star is not as important as earning money and he is already very happy to have a place in many producers’ hearts.
Kenneth admitted, “In honesty, titles aren’t important to me. Perhaps I’m a realistic person – you can only begin to think about other things if you earn enough money to ensure a good life.”
However, he would like to film Mainland dramas due to their lucrative pay. Since he still has more than two years left in his TVB management contract, he will think about his future direction when the time arrives. Currently, he is happy working for TVB.
Always Rumors, But Never Relationships
As TVB’s top bachelor, the 40-year-old has a lot of romantic rumors with female artistes. “When you’re in this industry, everyone knows what’s going on. It’s just for laughs. If both parties are single, there’s a chance for rumors. That way, you can attend functions together as a couple.”
Also stating that he is not in a rush to get married, Kenneth added, “Men aren’t like women who has a set time to get married. If the time comes, you can just get married. No one at home is rushing me. My mother just says that the house is not big enough.”
However, a fortune teller predicts that Kenneth’s biggest chance in getting married will fall between 2018 to 2019. If he misses the opportunity then, he may remain an eternal bachelor.
Not wanting to date just for the sake of being with someone, Kenneth wants to treat all dating partners as a potential spouse. “Since I’m practical, I feel that dating wastes a lot of money and time. Only when I come across the right person, will I use my energy, time and money to invest. Thus, I never date casually.” He does not expect the woman to change for him, and is looking for someone who is compatible with his personality.
Unfortunately for Kenneth, he has a knack of generating rumors, but never the luck in starting a relationship with any of the rumored flames. Model Jackie Xu (徐佳琦) was the closest one to becoming Kenneth’s girlfriend in recent years, but because of close media scrutiny, their budding relationship died before it started. “We were in the midst of getting to know each other; it was considered an awkward stage. After the exposure of our relationship, it set us further apart.” Not feeling regretful, Kenneth said he and Jackie are still good friends who remain in contact with each other.

totally agree.. he may be passing up a lot of potential spouses then . how does one get to know someone just by meeting them once and then killing off any potential possible spouses by saying no to casual dating..

Wouldn’t even consider him a top bachelor……..if you really look closely at his character, actually quite a boring guy and does not have the charisma to attract girls.
He’s only TVB’s last resort cause the good ones are all leaving………..this guy’s acting is no more than so-so.

Wow! If Kenneth Ma is now takes on the position as TVB’s top “siu shang”, then TVB is really badly in need of male leads and is scrapping the bottom. Kenneth’s acting is only suited for one kind of role (like the one in Noblesse Oblige) and for all else he wears the same expression and posture. Back to his dating preference, I can help but suspect that’s he is gay actually and all these unusual dating considerations he talked about is to only to cover that. Just my suspicion, not based on any facts.

Haha that’s a good one, chan. I’m no Kenneth hater. In fact I enjoy many of the dramas he starred in. But it’s just that to me he can only excel in a certain type of role and if just on that count, TVB crowns him as next number one star, then something not quite right. What about Ruco Chan or Edwin Siu who are much more versatile. As for Kenneth’s sexual orientation, it’s anyone guess.

Versatile and Kenneth Ma does not belong together. He has the same facial expressions in every role I’ve seen him play, and he only does an OK job of his role portrayals. If TVB isn’t so depleted of leading actors. I highly doubt he’d be the face of the company.
Of course, Kenneth was the pervert in Survivor’s Law 律政新人王 and the vilain in Tiger Cubs

Kenneth isn’t bad but isn’t a top level actor either. If he is TVB’s no. 1, then it’s a sad situation for TVB. He’s only good at goofy role. Even so, he sometimes goes OTT. It gets cringy, cheesy, and forced. TVB needs/should get promote someone else, i.e. Ruco, Vincent; Or even older actors like Wayne, who got a second wind so should Raymond and Power.
@jj: totally agree with you. Kenneth Ma’s acting is boring and hasn’t improved at all. He’s always giving the same look. Ruco is a really really good actor and very talented. Ruco can act both good and villain and deliver a very convincing performance. Plus Ruco is good looking and can sing as well. Raymond Cho and Power Chan are very good actors too…these 2 have been totally under-rated.

He is a famous celebrity so he can wait for the right girl or buy a young one like Raymond Lam. Either way no worries.

KM strikes me as a type of guy who is genuine, smart, patient, no-none sense, easygoing and perhaps down-to-earth. Maybe what he meant is that he doesn’t purposely seek out a suitor bc he knows better than to do that! He knows he doesn’t find love, love comes to him.
KM isn’t obsessed over finding his soulmate. He’s taking it in strides bc if he ever were to come off as needy and desperate for love, then he won’t be attractive to a soulmate, or anyone else, for that matter!
As a smart guy he’s letting things take their course. He’s not so eager to find a soulmate that he may end up forcing the wrong person into the soulmate box, causing pain for everyone involved. Remember, the love one gets from one’s soulmate is strong, effortless and timeless.

Didn’t he say that he would only film the most 1 drama in China a year as he would miss his mom. Now he is considering to film in China? If leave, who are there would be the male lead? The selection would be lesser… There is only Roger, Wayne Ruco, Kenneth, Ron, Bosco and maybe Johnson Lee for leading roles now. Unless they will be promoting newcomers…

Lots of young actresses because of all those pageants but lacking in young actors. They should make Mr HK more formal and less of a monkey gigolo show to attract participants.
