Myolie Wu Looks Forward to Long Break in October
Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) debuted in the industry through the 1999 Miss Hong Kong pageant. Winning favorable reviews in her early supporting roles, Myolie has maintained her position as one of the station’s most popular leading fadan in the past ten years.
Although Myolie has been leading in TVB dramas since 2003’s Survivor’s Law <律政新人王>, it took her nine more years to obtain formal recognition as a leading actress – Myolie won her first TVB Best Actress in 2011, for her performance in Curse of the Royal Harem <萬凰之王>. She also won TVB’s My Favorite Female Character award for her performance in Ghetto Justice <怒火街頭>.
TV King vs. Film King
Subsequently, Myolie was cast in Rosy Business 3: No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天> in late 2012, starring opposite three-time TV King Wayne Lai (黎耀祥). Myolie also starred alongside Film King Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) in Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>, which has just completed its run of 41 episodes on September 8.
On her thoughts in working with the two actors, Myolie said, “Both Wayne and Francis are acclaimed actors, but both of them have extremely different approaches towards acting. Maybe it’s because Francis has more experience in filming movies, so he usually encounters more unexpected situations. Francis would usually change the scene’s dialogue depending on the situation. It made the acting experience more realistic for the rest of us, so when working with him, one must pay extra attention.
“As for Wayne’s style, he tends to follow the script. Although he didn’t really give me much advice for my acting, he is very serious. He is completely in the mode when the camera rolls, and it really helps the other actors get into their roles as well. I think he’s a very charismatic actor. Although there is a large age gap between us, I develop a relationship with him at the end of [Rosy Business 3].”
On Her Roles
In order to be completely in character, many actors would cultivate their time in exploring their characters’ background and personality. Myolie also grows very attached to her characters, but the 33-year-old actress expressed that she tends to add a bit of her own personality into her roles.
“Regarding Summer [in Triumph in the Skies 2], when filming first started I took the initiative to suggest that my character should not have too much dialogue. It better suited my character’s background and personality. It really was my first time portraying such a character. There are a lot of emotional scenes. My character was someone who shows her personality through emotion, and not dialogue.
“The director wanted me to cut my hair short as it was fitting for my character. At first, I didn’t really want to because I didn’t think it was necessary to change my image for the drama, but in the end, everyone decided that it was best if I did chop it off. Now that it’s over, I have been slowly growing it back. After all, I prefer long hair more.”
Myolie’s role as the secret agent Cheung Kei Sang in Rosy Business 3: No Reserve was also another emotional ride for her. “After going through life and death situations, she becomes a very depressing character. Because of the story’s different historical setting, getting in character required a lot of imagination on my part. Although I know my performance will definitely be compared to Sheren Tang’s (鄧萃雯), and I will be asked about my confidence on winning the Best Actress award, I shouldn’t care too much about it. I don’t want to put more pressure on myself. I have to concentrate on my performance so I will have no regrets.”
Myolie admitted that shooting for the emotionally-demanding No Reserve had took a great toll on her mental and physical health. Throughout most of the filming period, Myolie suffered through insomnia, but she has been feeling much better lately. Myolie understood that resting is important, and plans to take a long break from work in October.
She also expressed that it may be the time for her to search for a new love. “In the past I was someone who was rather impulsive, but the experiences I have gained in the industry really changed me to become someone much more calm and steady. Besides, I am someone who easily puts pressure on myself, so now I must learn to lessen the stress. In terms of my relationship life, I will take the initiative to meet new friends, but it all depends on fate. I don’t think a flash marriage will happen with me – it’s a big responsibility, and it puts a lot of pressure on people. I’m not that kind of a person anymore.”
Myolie added that aside from her acting jobs, she would also spend time on learning how to invest on estate properties. “My schedules are always packed, so I really don’t have time to learn about buying stocks. They are risky. I feel that investing in real estate is much safer.”
“If I have time, I’ll rather spend it watching movies or traveling, to completely relax. I’m actually planning for my trip to Europe right now. I really like the environment there.”

glad that myolie will be taking a long break in october because in november she has to film that grand production ‘my vinegar lady’ as the main lead! and ron is finally promoted back to lead and pair with myolie in the epic love story! him law will also have a love story with myolie while eliza sam is the second female lead, and alice chan will take part too! it will be an epic love story while at the same time also has funny elements! sounds like a promising series!

Did Myolie do something to her face? cos she really looks different of late,; she was much prettier previously. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
thinking of the same thing. she probably had plastic surgery. i think she had been doing it since 2007. that’s when all the sudden she started to look alot better.
get your facts checked. myolie looks different because of her weight loss after to geow with love which loses her baby fats! plastic surgery is for people like viann, or people who suspected to trim their face or jaws such as rebecca and bernice!
yup, we know you’re a diehard fan who wld die to defend her. Unfortunately, it’s true she had plastic surgery whether you like it or not. Not sure abt other parts but she definitely did ner eyes. Personally, i think there’s nothing wrong with plastic surgery to enhance your looks especially if you feel more confident abt yourself after that (tho’ some people may condemn this line of thought as superficial since it places too much emphasis on physical beauty but to each his own); unless it becomes an unhealthy obsession such that you cant stop meddling with your face. I think she looks best in Wish and switch and curse of royal harem but after she broke up with Bosco, that was when i noticed she started to look rather different. Not dissing her, just my observation, so just relax ok?
Definitely plastic surgery on her eyes. Her eyes were smaller and she did not have nice double eyelids. Lots of actresses have their eyes done.
You can widen your eyes without PS. However, whether she truly had PS or not, we do not know for sure unless she openly admitted it.
I think she looks the same. just that she mature nicely and I think she takes good care of herself. If u watched her in TITS2, there were a few scenes where she didn’t have any make up and she didn’t look that bad too. So I don’t think she has any plastic surgery. I think she isn’t that fake to improve her looks by going under the knife. Anyway my views only.
agree with sy. indeed in triumph2 myolie still look good even when she wasn’t wearing any makeup. besides she’s not the type of person who will lower herself to do a plastic surgery. besides she has always been busy and no time for a long break for surgery. her looks stayed the same, only some changes due to maturity and weight loss.

How do you tell if someone has had double eyelid surgery? Simple – when the eyes are closed, the line is still visible cos the eyelid has been cut to create the double eyelid fold. As for a natural double lid, the line disappears when the eyes are closed cos it’s created by a fold, not a cut. Observe some of the actors’ and actresses’, you can tell whose double eyelid is not natural.
Actually for double eyelids, most artistes just rely on double eyelid stickers thus there’s a line on their eyelids. Even though double eyelid surgery is common, but its downtime is long, this is due to constant blinking of eyes, prolonging the healing time of the eyelids.
double eyelid ps is really common these days, no big deal. with better techniques now, the downtime is not as long as you imagine. the sticky tape method is passe, it’s also obvious that there’s tape used on the eyes. with double eyelid ps done by a skilled surgeon, it’s not obvious unless you really scrutinise.

Comparing her photos from TITS1, she definitely had botox for her jaws. I think she did fillers for her chin as well.
In part she aged as in grown up. In another, as TITS 2 said, she is 90% alike with her old self. Chin, jaw, eyes, nose. She did them. Ghetto Justice is much obvious.
Myolie definitely looks prettier now than when she was a 2nd runner-up in Miss Hong Kong Pageant Show in 1999. I am sure she must have something done on her face to make her look prettier. If she wanted to be a competitive actress, she had no other choice but to get plastic surgery done on her face.

omg, you’re right abt those pics! i hope myolie doesn’t go the way of tavia! so now we have one actress with an ever-growing nose and another with an ever-growing chin! in the picture accompanying this article, i can’t recognise myolie cos she looks so different. As her chin grows more prominent, her mouth increases in size too.

Wow, Myolie Wu looked so different in “Survivor’s Law”. Her eyes are bigger and prettier, her chin is so much smaller and pointed, and even her nose looks different now.
She was pretty bland in “Survivor’s Law”. She would never be able to act 1st lead roles with her bland face. Of course, she needed to have something done on her face.

Myolie looks good with short hair too, but not as short as Summer’s hair. She needs to wear heavy makeup in any case. She looks bland with light makeup.
Don’t most actresses and even normal citizens look bland without heavy make up? We are used to seeing actresses with make up so of course are not used to seeing them without it. Even the average citizen that is usually made up with need make up to be presentable to most people so that is more so the case for actresses.
I don’t mind seeing actresses wearing heavy makeup in shows or presentations, but not when they act certain characters, such as police officers. For example, Kate Tsui wears super long eyelashes and long pony tail in her character as senior inspector in “Sniper Standoff” . This kind of image is not suitable for police force, especially long pony tail which can be easily grabbed by criminals during any fights.
I think Kate’s image in Sniper Standoff is the most suitable one out of her police roles. Believe it or not but most heavy authority madams does dress like she does. Most of them don’t leave their hair all flopping around when they’re chasing criminals.

She’s not on patrol where they don’t require you to wear heels, it suits her fierce personality in the series. Besides it’s TV, every woman in TV who are female authority figures wear heels. It’s not surprising. Besides nothing is normal on TV

What happens if the inspector has a fight with the criminals and her pony tail is grabbed by the criminals. What can she do then?
I haven’t seen any police officials with pony tails or long hair. People in disciplinary professions should always wear their hair short.
The criminals can always grab their hair whether it’s not in a ponytail either, I’ve seen that happen. I think most of the female officers you see are on patrol and on uniform so of course you don’t see that but a rank as high as hers, it is definitely realistic.
Besides in reality a rank as high as hers don’t usually chase down criminals, they’re the brains and patrol or SWAT are usually the one who brings down the criminals. Not saying they never do but not often.

In TVB drama series, all senior inspectors have to chase criminals. Kate Tsui did it in Ep. # 2 already out of 3 episodes.
I know that which is why I stated nothing is realistic in series, that is how an inspector should look like not in jeans, t- shirts and sneakers.
I haven’t met a real female police inspector, so I cannot make any comments.

Everyone is taking a long break …. such as Aimee Chan, Linda Chung, now Myolie Wu, and Fala has left. How is TVB going to film their drama series ….. only with Tavia Yeung and Kate Tsui left? Probably they have to cast Eliza Sam, Rebecca Zhu and Christine Kuo as 1st lead actresses in their forthcoming drama series.
I am happy to see that Myolie, Linda are taking breaks between their dramas. However, please don’t overpromote Christine Kuo, Eliza Sam, Rebecca Zhu too fast (I am fine with all of them but all of them are still pretty new)! Can TVB please allow Nancy Wu, Sharon Chan, Mandy Wong & other second-line actresses to lead instead?

Actresses can reshape their features such as chin, nose, cheeks by using dermafillers. As for eyes, I am definitely sure Myolie did a plastic surgery to make the cease deeper. As simple as that, anyone could know.
