Tracy Chu Promoted to Lead Actress
With Myolie Wu’s (胡杏兒) expected departure from TVB, the station has been scrambling to promote younger actresses. After TVB executives announced they will place resources in grooming Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), Tracy Chu (朱千雪) is now promoted to lead actress as well.
Becomes First Female Lead in EU: Overtime Mission
Tracy competed in Miss Hong Kong 2012 and was the public’s popular choice for the crown. However, due to TVB’s technical server failures and inability to parse live votes on finals night, Tracy placed as second runner-up, while judges crowned Carat Cheung (張名雅).
Tracy is seen as a promising talent after her performances in The Hippocratic Crush 2 <On Call 36小時 II> and Tomorrow is Another Day <再戰明天>. While the 26-year-old is still relatively inexperienced and has yet to prove that she is capable to carry a series, TVB is ready to promote Tracy given the exodus of more established actresses who are eager to chase the more lucrative Mainland Chinese market.
After Myolie Wu rejected filming EU: Overtime Mission <EU超時任務>, many believed Kate Tsui (徐子珊) would be stepping in. However, producer Lam Chi Wah (林志華) decided to use Tracy in EU: Overtime Mission, which features a relatively fresh cast consisting of Vincent Wong (王浩信) and Moon Lau (劉佩玥).
TVB executive Catherine Tsang (曾勵珍) believes that the police role will help distinguish Tracy apart from other newcomers. Many popular TVB actresses in the late 1990s and 2000s, such as Esther Kwan (關詠荷), Joyce Tang (滕麗名), Ada Choi (蔡少芬), and Niki Chow (周麗淇), received breakthrough performances through police dramas.
Cherishing the opportunity and hoping to follow the successful footsteps of her seniors, Tracy promises to work hard and put in her best efforts.

Why Moon Lau and Sisley they are really an eye sore to watch!!!
Tracy and Grace is ok but having them to lead is series is just doing it to much….I mean really alot of artist work there ass of in TVB to get to the top!!!
While Sisley Moon is a noob and horrible at acting someday lead it just nonsense!!!
Tvb has no more soliders so the newbie are lucky now. Myolie, Charmaine, tavia etc aren’t that great either but do tvb has a choice?
I missed all the old actors and actresses from the 90s such as dereck wan, Gigi lai, Vivian Leung, gallen Lo
were entering a new era in TVB with everyone leaving… all these fresh face hope they all do well.
She;s got the looks (very pretty), youth (not too young looking and not old, can take over the 20s sort of role) and though rough she can be polished. Whether she is ready for 1st lead is doubtful and whether it could be an action packed series even more doubtful. But I think she is quite a talent.
Agree that she looks more comfortable to the eye than Grace or Sisley. I think she is quite natural in her acting too.
I see great potentials in her. She has that charisma and charm about her that’s very likable. Wish her all the best!
tracy is pleasant to look at…unlike grace and Sisley.
i think grace is fine, just sisley ugh she just ugh
Good for Tracy. It’s about time to be fair to her. If they can promote that loud voice Sisley, it is most unfair to leave Tracy behind.
Also Rebecca Zhu should be promoted too.
Is it luck at play and feng shui here? If not, how come some good actresses like Elaine Yiu and Natalie Tong can never get to leading roles while the likes of Sisley and Grace are fast tracked?
Those M club girls are way better than these current crop. Miss HK contestants are not really that great.
RebecCa zhu was promited and crashed.
Elaine? Nit a great actress. Was terrible and became sirta competent but attract viewers? No. Natalie also no. No x factor but will do great as those supporting type.
Grace is talented and she can act so i get the fast tracking, sisley i don’t know. Forget abt natalie or elaine or nancy. They can dominate the 30 ish roles. The rrst who are young can play young roles. Females we have tons if chiices, i fear for male actors.
Rebecca is playing in the new movie with chow yun fat and nick cheung, she’ll be fine.
The males aren’t ready. The only one getting promoted are Him Law, Vincent Wong, Sammy Sum, Benjamin Yuen but the only one acceptable is Vincent alone and maybe moon faced Louis Cheung. Him and Sammy are incompetent in YC. Benjamin is too wooden. We’ll see Vincent and Louis as leads this year.
It’s too bad that established younger leads like Raymond Lam and Bosco Wong prefer chasing money outside than develop more inside TVB considering they’re still not as great as Ruco. At this rate I prefer to watch more of Ruco/Roger/Lawrence Ng/Wayne/Kenneth than seeing those newbies making a fool of themselves.
At least be thankful that TVB stopped promoting Oscar Leung.
yes do agreed with Toby look like Vincent n Louis as sui san and lead for the next years.
I’m just curious about Ruco’s next project. He has nothing after COD and he’s not with BK2. I hope this time it’s a great character for him and a big production.
@Toby: Should you notice that established younger leads like Raymond Lam and Bosco Wong spent 14-15 years in TVB before venturing outside. If they really prefer chasing money outside than develop more inside TVB, they didnt spend that much of time in TVB.
Can say that they give TVB their youth. Isnt the main reason for them to leave the policy of TVB to promote favourite artists of a manager? It is true that TVB promote them, but at the same time they brought a lot of benefit back to TVB. Win-Win collaboration.
And now when they got chance to go further than just a TV artists, why they should stay in TVB to be treated worse than the favourite artists of a manager while TVB continuously gives them same type of roles and worse, roles to support for the favourite artists of the winning side.
Moreover, they are loyalty with TVB for so long, up to when they cant be blind to better opportunity. To that point, they are loyalty to TVB much more than the artists who chose to leave TVB to ATV for higher salary and then come back to TVB after ATV started to sink.
If TVB was fair and square, they wont lose so many artists who cannot stand the unfair policies. The artists can come back, but they have their own pride to stay away from being biological son for a reason.
@toby,i agree with alluka,if raymond and bosco dont go now they will never go,like roger kwok and stay at tvb till the end of their career.its good for both side, raymond and bosco can earn more money and still develope,i cant see why their acting will come to a halt if they go to the movieworld.and for tvb its good they can promote new actors that is promising,so( i hope) we can see a new andy lau lau or tony leung again in the future. it is a win/win situation,so why not.in the case of raymond he is in negotiation for the movie version of linewalker thus the relationship is still there.
An E.U. series without Michael Miu will surely fail lol.
Sounds like they are just using the previous series’ good name in order to boost a completely new storyline/series.
I’d like to say I’m shocked TVB would do this, but I’m not lol.
I will reserve judgement on how she turns out till after I have watched a few series with her in it. Some of HK’s best actors came from modelling/singing so Judging them from something as superficial as a beauty contest can not accurately predict how good of an actor they will turn out.
As long as she works hard and doesn’t get some badly written roles, it could turn out well for her.
Kissing the executives butt’s wouldn’t hurt either, actually it would probably help lol.
If I rmb rite, the LOO series is without Micheal Miu and it still wins best series.
everyone is leaving tvb, young and inexperienced actors leading roles and not good veteran actors, poor scripts and quality for dramas continues, hktv dramas getting pretty good, ratings at all time low
tvb is heading down a dangerous path
Didn’t somebody say it would be a medical drama? lol Good for Kate not to take part. She’s probably sick of police roles.
I like Tracy. She was good in her debut drama, but seems like TVB is taking it slow to promote her. Not a bad thing.
Hope Tracy does well, she looks fresh, young and judging from her previous dramas, i think she has plenty of potential
I guess with all their actors leaving TVB have no choice but to promote newbies.
I think the main reason why all these newbies are getting so much hate is because they are getting promoted too quickly. Actresses like Tavia and Moylie started out as supporting and worked their way up.
Although I did like Grace in her recent drama – and from a previous article she seems to be hard working. I liked Tracy in THCII (didn’t watch the other one) so I’m happy that she’s back.
I just hope that TVB doesn’t mess up for them.
Out of the past five pageants, I think she’s the better one at acting.
happy for tracey! not a bad actress , easy to watch. Please dont promote sisley she is so annoying in every drama lol
I prefer her over Grace. glad she is getting heavier roles.
Ya..glad TVB is promoting Tracey Chu
She deserves it she was great in oncall and the prison drama.
tVB needs to dump Sisley Choi as she just cannot act….
Tracy is a good choice. She can act and prettier than Grace and Sisley.
hi toby,
give me a 5. I feel the same way about tracy. in that prison drama, she did a good job as a counsellor.
I actually think she looks cute and has potential. She just needs more experience.
She is, I’ve liked her since THC2. I’m surprised that she’s very natural in her acting. Tracy and Grace both are the more natural newbies, but Tracy is more comfortable to look at and has the lead face. As a girl I think Tracy is pretty.
No don’t think she’s pretty, must be those big teeth with the prominent gap. Looks horsey to me. Don’t think she’s ready yet.
I like Tracy. She is is sweet. I like Hugo Wong too.
Yes, please don’t promote Oscar anymore…tired of him.
More Eliza Sam & less everyone else, that is all
Hope to see more of:
-Tracy chu
-Eliza Sam
-Nancy wu
-Vincent ng
-Hugo Wong
-ruco chan
-Kevin cheng
Agree with the list except don’t care for Eliza and Kevin. I would add
Mandy Wong
Ali Lee
I would like less of
Oscar Leung
Kate Tsui
Sharon Chan
Wong Cho Lam
Johnson Lee
Sisley Choi
Him Law
hi toby,
to see more of certain artistes means LESSER of the others…but I certainly agree with your list. can I also add grace chan and linda chung?
I really like Tracy and she was amazing in THC. I didnt know she it was her debut then but she is a natural for someone who have no acting experience and i think she will be able to handle being a lead
I think that it is actually a great disservice that tvb does to many of the new people who enter the industry. Instead of learning from more experienced actors and honing their craft, they are now being tossed into the deep end and expected to carry shows, which they are completely ill equipped to do. Then, when the inevitable viewer backlash happens due to poor acting or ability, they get shafted or frozen out. In effect, it is just a way to continue the conveyor belt of cheap talent that is generated through the pageants.
This is a major reason why the quality of the shows are declining.
Tracy is at least one of the better newbies imo.
I think we forgot that TVB went through the same crisis when the original five tiger left TVB in the early 90s and had the station scrambling for new faces to fill their void. These things ebbs and flows. We hope they keep promoting new people so the cream naturally rises to the top.
Pretty, comes across as nice, looks very intelligent. From the little I see of her, like her.
