“Agent X”: China’s First Espionage Idol Drama
Highly anticipated mainland Chinese action drama, Agent X < X女特工>, recently released an exciting preview. Amid the beautifully filmed scenes and the thrilling plot details, what captured the attention of viewers most were the numerous action scenes, in which Luo Jin (羅晉) showed off his prowess by performing extremely difficult stunts.
In Agent X, Luo Jin plays He Junfeng, a stern but experienced secret service agent. Seen as the quintessential spy, he naturally excels in his assigned missions. In order to make the action scenes more realistic, Luo Jin performed the stunts himself, rather than opting for a stunt double. He successfully pulled off many difficult actions, such as taking an opponent down with a flying tackle and jumping out of a moving car. Luo Jin performed his action scenes so well that the drama’s producer and director praised him, saying he had the potential to become an action star.
Although the action scenes drew the most attention, the romantic storyline is also a highlight that many viewers are excited to see. In the past, Junfeng missed a chance at love and thus sealed off his heart so it could never be touched again. However, one of the new female spy recruits changes his plans. Zhong Li (Tiffany Tang (唐嫣) is naïve and impetuous, and she and Junfeng initially butt heads again and again. As they grow together, Junfeng cannot help but allow his heart to be opened again.
Because of the action scenes and the romantic storyline, many viewers are calling Agent X mainland China’s first action and espionage idol drama. The exciting explosions, gripping plot twists, and touching love story are bound to create a unique visual feast that will turn this show into the most anticipated drama of the New Year. Agent X will begin airing on March 26.

woohoo… trailer looks great!!! I have been anticipating this series since the beginning of last year.
The trailer is action packed. hooray!!!
The trailer of “Agent X” reminds me of Michelle Ye’s “Athena” due to the time period and the action sequences. Even the costumes, due to the use of black leather, are somewhat similar.
Both dramas are airing around the same time frame; wonder if this will impact ratings for “Agent X” which will premiere a little later in March.
I think the costumes and action sequence shown in Agent X looked much better than Athena. The plot doesn’t sound as cheesy as Athena either.
As for the time frame, are both series in the same time period? Agent X seems to be more modern instead of Shanghai 1920s.
Lingling,
Judging by the trailer, “Agent X” may be 1950s? However, there was an abundant use of black leather in the costumes and Tiffany’s long straight hair also seems uncharacteristic of the time era. Both drama’s action stunts are on the modern side as well.
Jayne,
hmmm…but oddly enough Athena seems earlier 1950s. must be the “saloon” garbs in the trailer that gave me that feeling. Athena’s trailer seems to be more focus on the heroine’s sexual prowness to get her revenge, whereas, Agent X’s is more focus on misions and action. Not much love going in the trailer or the pictures.
First? I thought almost all are almost espisionage, or it means first starring non-actor sort of actors? Like not CCTV actors?
Interesting! I hope it is modern and not a past era. Although Luo Jin and Tiffany again?! Considering how much bigger the industry is in Mainland, they surprisingly repeat a lot pairings all the time.
It’s past era, look at the gun -.- and the clothes -.- and the train, and everything scream old old old style
Also, riding on their previous drama success? Idk how success it is, but it doesn’t surprise me when they constantly pair couples that ppls love from previous well known series to the new drama.
advo,
it could also be the directors or producers wanting to work with certain actors/actresses. We see that alot in the showbiz industry.
It could also be that LJ and TY works well together, looks great and have a weeee bit of chemistry.
When I read the article, I was like yay! Then I watched the trailer, n now I’m sad panda -.- seriously boring trailer, and just a bunch of gun shots scene with bad old gun >_<
Little fishy,
You probably found the trailer for “Agent X” to be boring because there was no dialogue and only action scenes. Actually I found the trailer fine as it adds a sense of mystery. It gave me the “Wow!” factor because the stunts seem a bit modern for the era.
Closer to broadcast date, there will likely be new trailers featuring the drama’s romantic side.
Jayne,
I agree. I, too, also like short trailers with very little dialog (or none in this case) but with exciting scenes. Long trailers gave the plot away and lessen my anticipation.
This trailer is perfect as a teaser. Add a few crytic lines in there and the team got themselves a winner.
