Dayo Wong’s Spy Comedy “Agent Mr. Chan” Slated for CNy 2018 Release
After the box office failure of his 2002 comedy film Fighting to Survive < 一蚊雞保鑣>, Dayo Wong (黃子華) is determined to make this one a success.
Agent Mr. Chan <棟篤特工>, directed by Jeff Cheung (張家傑) and with a script penned by Dayo, follows a British agent who teams up with a Hong Kong government officer to solve a case, but ends up falling in love in the process. Dayo portrays the titular spy, with Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), his costar in 2009’s You’re Hired <絕代商驕>, playing as his partner.
Earlier, photos from the set of Agent Mr. Chan was published online, featuring a wedding scene between Dayo and Charmaine. Dayo donned an Elvis-inspired hairdo for the ceremony, showing off the film’s comedic, stand-up style.
The film features a plethora of costars, including Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), Sandra Ng (吳君如), Lo Hoi-pang (盧海鵬), Jim Chim (詹瑞文), Ada Choi (蔡少芬), and Alan Tam (譚詠麟).
Agent Mr. Chan is Dayo’s first self-written film since 2002’s Fighting to Survive, which was a box office bomb. Released in January 2002, the movie brought in only HK$110,000 in the box office, putting it as one of Hong Kong’s lowest-grossing films. Determined to not suffer the same fate, Dayo worked extra hours to perfect the script of Agent Mr. Chan, going through ten drafts.
“We originally wanted to start filming last year,” said Dayo. “But I ended up with ten drafts. I really want to give everyone a much more handsome and perfect script this time.”
Agent Mr. Chan, produced by China 3D Digital Entertainment, is slated for a Chinese New Year release in 2018.

… that’s forever away. Hope the script doesn’t become irrelevant. Also hope he’s an English speaker. It would be awful for a British agent who speaks broken and/or inaudible English…
@jjwong no worries there mate, “male god” dayo wong does have a degree from canada (in philosophy-ftw!), his english will probably be fine. i just hope that he at least attempts an english accent in keeping with the character (unlike every foreigner portrayal in hong kong film history)
@rucofan1100 Fred Cheng (I think that’s his last name) raised in US, his English is horrible. Kate Tsui had a weird accent when she spoke English in a couple TVB series. With that being said, Dayo seems pro so surely he did his homework and stay in-char.
@jjwong I don’t remember hearing Fred speaking much English in TV series. Fred and Grace Wong seldom speak a lot of English in TV series. Unlike Grace Chan, Linda Chung and Aimee Chan.
Dayo Wong is not a CBC so if you are picky in English accents, don’t be disappointed.
@jjwong actually now that you mention it, i am reminded of how even though there is a surplus of ABC’s in hong kong entertainment, some of the english dialogue i hear in hk film and tv continues to be terrible; what native english speaker would ever say this stuff? so yea i guess we should be worried… though it’s dayo, so it’ll at least be entertaining!
@rainbow28 remember hearing Fred’s English on a variety show and thinking he sounded awkward. I was shock when someone said he’s ABC or at least lived and studied in the US most of his childhood and early adulthood.
@rucofan1100 yea idk why they sound awful as soon as they returned and filmed on HK. It’s like they purposely dummy down their English to fit in. Lol.
