Moses Chan’s TVB Contract is Ending
With the large outflow of qualified artistes leaving TVB and seeking opportunities in Mainland China, the company is experiencing a shortage of leading actors. To compensate, TVB is instead promoting newcomers and giving them lead roles despite lack of experience. TVB is relying on the few seasoned artistes left at the company, such as Moses Chan (陳豪) and Bobby Au Yeung (歐陽震華), to handhold these newcomers. However, TVB will be losing yet another experienced lead actor, as Moses’ contract is ending soon. The 46-year-old actor does not seem to intend to renew his contract with TVB, his employer of 17 years.
In hopes of convincing Moses to stay, TVB reportedly sought out Moses several times to discuss renewing his contract. However, no matter how it was sliced, TVB’s low pay further fueled Moses’ intent to end his contract. Moses explained, “You can’t really say it like that. I focused primarily on who I could or would be collaborating with. It’s not like how the media reports it.”
Eyes Mainland China
As with many others who have left the TVB nest, Moses intends to shift his career to Mainland China in hopes of earning more money for his family. “Actually, there is still some time left in my contract [with TVB]. However, I really am heading to Mainland China to film a drama in March. As to what the drama is, I’ll let them announce it!”
Moses reportedly already had plans to seek opportunities in Mainland China five years ago. However, Aimee Chan (陳茵媺) fell pregnant unexpectedly. This compelled Moses to strike a deal with TVB, with the actor renewing his contract in exchange for Aimee suspending her contract with TVB and halting all work.
Although Moses will have to leave his family behind, he expressed that Aimee is supportive of his decision. The couple will make the appropriate arrangements and Moses is not worried about being separated from his three kids for long periods of time. “The way she is supporting me is the same as how I would be supportive of her. When the time comes, I will make time to come home for a day or two. Or, she and the kids can come visit me too!”

Yup!! In another interview Roger Kwok is leaving after 20 years.. also Kenneth Ma is speculating to leave soon as well… so will see the same male faces in every drama… sad!

I thought Moses, Kenneth, and Roger stay with TVB full-time for so long because they are less marketable in China’s market because China’s entertainment circle prefers to cast good-looking guys (if they are from HK) and/or 小鮮肉 to be first or second leads.

@ricky721 Roger isn’t exactly leaving. He switched to signing per series contract with TVB and will still film one series a year for them. He will be signing with Wong Cho Lam’s company for his management contract.

@ricky721 the fact is that i see rogers face at tvb already 30 years now. its time to give younger actors a chance. roger is in his 50+, moses almost 50, bobby 50+ all these are good actors but leading roles that fits them will become lesser and lesser. thats why they search opportunities elsewhere.
I’m worried about my fav TVB artists going to mainland to dig gold. Often times, while the market is lucrative, their career is stalled because no one wants to hire older generation of actors/actresses in lead roles (in good dramas.) The only ones that have somewhat made it are William Chan, Hawick Lau, Angelababy and rising star Janice Man. Sammul, Dicky Cheung, Raymond Lam and Kevin was in this category, but I haven’t seen anything definitive from them since their last popular drama.
Angelababy & Hawick are boosted somewhat by their mainland partners. William Chan/Janice Man are currently still developing their careers there. The rest are in stasis.
If Moses really decide to try the market, I wish him the best of luck. But it’s going to be a really difficult career move.

Playing 3rd line/4th line leads in lengthy series and attending reality shows in the mainland will earn a lot more than working for TVB.
@jimmyszeto but popular tvb artists make money from endorsements for being popular. If they move to the mainland, yes they will make more money than working at tvb, but the endorsement deals will be a lot less as well. It’s a trade-off and I dunno if it’s a smart move.

They can make the same or more money for much less workload. The asking fees for shows in China to just sing a song and chat with the audience is much higher than attending a sponsored even in Hong Kong. Can allow plenty of time to travel back to HK to spend time wit hthe family. Even the ‘has been’ Hong Kong leads are making plenty from shows.

Wallace Cheung Hon Leung is quite successful in China and he looks young for his age. Ada Choi, Kathy Chow, Kara Wai Ying-Hung, Damian Lau and Gallen Lo play supporting roles in China.
@coralie I dont think moses chan can speak fluent mandarin. same like bobby au. But i believe Moses must have a good contract to sign in china before decided not to renew with tvb. But its just for short term. 5-6 years later also moses can come back to TVB la.
China is too rich, got plenty of cash to splash. But cantanose drama cannot die must continue and work hard ya tvb. I only love tvb drama..hehe

So does that mean My Ages Apart is going to be his last drama? If he’s leaving for good I guess tvb will cast Vincent Wong, Ruco Chan and Benjamin Yuen or even Bobby more on screen. I’m not a huge fans of Moses but if he decided to leave tvb to earn more money then good for him. Hong Kong living are expensive so I guess he needs to earn more money to support his family.
