Raymond Wong on Staying Fit for “Apple-colada”: “Eat A Lot of Protein”
TVB’s new drama Apple-colada <果欄中的江湖大嫂> premiered on March 5 to rave reviews, bringing Raymond Wong (黃浩然) with two well-received dramas in a row. The 42-year-old actor stars alongside Alice Chan (陳煒), Eliza Sam (岑麗香), Mat Yeung (楊明), and Tommy Wong (黃光亮) in the comedy drama.
Raymond has always been know for his fit figure, and his “15-inch biceps” definitely shined in Apple-colada. The actor said he doesn’t consider himself to be big, but does like to maintain his figure. “I enjoy going to the gym, so I’ve always been keeping fit. I shot Apple-colada around the same time I was filming a drama in the mainland, and I had brought all my gym equipment with me. When I don’t have time, I would at least try to do about 200 to 300 pushups a day, and also tricep exercises.”
Asking if Raymond did manage to get those “15-inch” biceps, Raymond did not directly answer the question, saying instead, “I do have to watch my diet. I lose muscle weight pretty easily so I have to eat a lot of protein and have a regular sleeping schedule. Eating protein is definitely important, such as chicken breasts and eggs.”

Rave reviews? Is this drama any good? The plot doesn’t sound promising and I don’t think i can stomach watching another Ms HK trying to act. Plus Eliza is such a boring actress.
@passingby
Eliza is doing the same typical Eliza acting. Speaking every word perfect like she is reading lines straight off a piece of paper. She has been given more undeserved lead opportunities than anyone I have ever seen. However, the series has started good largely thanks to the ever dependable funny man Tommy Wong and also Alice Chan.
@passingby Yea, I think the “rave reviews” part was an exaggeration, as is typical of HK media. They’re reporting “rave reviews” for that currently airing Edwin Siu / Grace Chan drama too, which is a joke. I wonder how much TVB paid the media outlets to “rave” about their series because honestly, I don’t see anything worth “raving” about. All of the series that have aired so far this year have been let-downs and none of the upcoming ones are appealing either. Unfortunately, the other HK stations aren’t airing anything good either and the web series some of us are waiting on won’t be airing for awhile . I think we are reaching a point where there is truly nothing to watch anymore….
@llwy12 @jimmyszeto thx for the replies. So typical of tvb to blow their own trumpet lol.
@llwy12
I’m skipping the Edwin series. Seen from the theme song that there was too much computer effects for my liking. Wouldn’t have minded trying to see if Ben Wong can pull it off as one of the main leads. However skipping an Edwin series is never a bad move.
The title of the drama is ridiculous. It makes me not wanna watch
@coralie He’s actually pretty boring onscreen as well. I was enjoying that ghostly theme that just finished airing series it was just ok to me but I didn’t find him interesting in there either. He was very cute before but some people get better looking as they aged but not this Raymond Wong. haha Lol… But he is not the most boring person onscreen thou there are lots of them in TVB. The one that’s always topping my list is Kenneth Ma. Lol
@wm2017 Raymond Wong is a consistent actor, but lately he’s been placed in consistently boring roles lol. I don’t think it’s his fault. I don’t think he is best actor-winning material, but then again, I haven’t seen him in a very complex and interesting role. He’s always been playing support in one way or another.
I have my own thoughts on Kenneth Ma lol. But I won’t go into it. Maybe he’ll surprise me one of these days.
@coralie
Im a big fan of Raymond Wong. He just hasn’t given the big anniversary series epic role to make the next breakthrough. I’m not sure if he is capable of pulling it off even if he is given the opportunity. Nevertheless you know that you will get a decent series if he is playing a big enough part in it…
@coralie I totally agree. Raymond is pretty laid back and organic in his roles. He never over or under-acts his characters. It boggles my mind why TVB always reduces him to supporting role status. There are plenty of leading men roles that Raymond would have done justice to which were given to other actors. They ended up doing mediocre jobs with the to roles. Problem with TVB is roles are given to favorites, not who can represent a role/character. And if they want to showcase a newbie or favorite, even if he or she is lacking leading man/lady status and skills, to hell with what the audience think, or desire to watch, they will shove that actor/actress down your throat repeatedly. Hope Raymond gets his due recognition before he retires from acting.
@bubbletea @jimmyszeto Looks like Raymond will finally get his due. The cast for the new Chan Bo Wah series was announced and Miriam Yeung will be the female lead paired up with Raymond, which I’m assuming makes him first male lead (Pakho Chau is the other lead). Miriam is Film Queen (Best Actress winner) and is considered a “big name” in the movie industry so Raymond being paired with her definitely elevates his status (though the cynical part of me also sees this as another “gimmick” on TVB’s part given Raymond and Miriam collaborated before in a movie and his character name in this series is actually the same as in the movie). I don’t doubt that Raymond will do well, but since I’m not a fan of the cast in general, not sure if I’ll watch this, even with one of my favorite scriptwriters Chan Bo Wah at the helm.
@coralie same here.
Tommy Wong is a sensation. TVB should pay a ridiculous money just to keep him as a regular lead in comedies. Previously I thought he was just another vicious triad actor before he appeared in a TVB series. Couldn’t be more wrong….
