Tracy Chu to Focus on Law Degree

Minimizing her onscreen appearances, Tracy Chu (朱千雪) is currently focusing on her law studies. She is speculated to be slowly easing her way out of the entertainment industry to become a full-time lawyer in the near future.

Winning Miss Hong Kong 2012 second-runner up, Tracy was one of the heaviest promoted actresses at TVB in recent years. Due to her friendly demeanor and good girl image, Tracy quickly won fans. While she is a rising star, Tracy took a short hiatus from acting to return to school two years ago.

After completing her Master’s in Business Communications, the 30-year-old decided to further pursue a law degree. Proving to be an excellent law student, Tracy was headhunted by one of the top law firms in Hong Kong. The firm is willing to hold a placement for Tracy when she graduates, leading to speculation that Tracy may eventually retire as an actress.

Despite her pursuits in law, Tracy still has several years remaining in her TVB contract and has been filming for a variety of short-term projects, such as travelogue, Fun Abroad <3日2夜>. Although her law knowledge is abundant, Tracy was not cast in TVB legal drama Big White Duel <白色強人>. However, the actress expressed that some of her co-workers have come to her for legal advice.

Recently, Tracy was spotted heading off to school and meeting some of her classmates. After a full day of classes, Tracy – who was dressed in a casual outfit with minimal makeup, quietly went to the local supermarket to grab some dinner before heading home to study.

  1. Good choice Tracy! It would have been a waste of time for her to stay at TVB.

  2. great for her to experience so much at such an early age. a celebrity and soon a lawyer. this girl’s had it all.

  3. A shame that this might mark the end of her showbiz career. I can’t imagine anyone taking a celebrity seriously once they’re in the real legal world. But, at least the rest of her life will be stable & safe from the grueling world of entertainment.

    1. @coralie Might not be the end…maybe once her legal career is established, she can still do acting projects on the side if she has that “acting itch” in the future….that’s what Angie Chiu’s husband Melvin Wong did for several decades after getting his law degree in the 90s. Money Lo is another example of a celebrity turned successful lawyer…though she’s not really active in the industry anymore but she does perform legal services for a lot of celebrities in the industry so still quite connected….

  4. Go Tracy, good on ya. I have to hand it to celebrities who pursue an education at the highest level. Studios used to find roles that suited their actors and actresses as they age. Nowadays, when an actor or actress reaches their mid to late thirties, they become redundant. TVB has even announced their new crop of future leading men. Ron Ng and Bosco Wong and all the current leading men should should take note of that. They threw in an older guy but they have a lot of young bucks that they want to announce in the near future. That has become the trend. A lot of celebrities drop out of high school or college to pursue their dreams, leaving them with little to no education. By forty yrs old, their roles have dried up and they have no formal education. By pursuing a law degree, Tracy can become an entertainment lawyer, they make so much money, and as an entertainer herself, that would be right up her alley. Entertainers will take her VERY seriously. Hope the trend continues with idols going back to school.
