After Knife Dispute, Kitty Zhang Announces Divorce
One day after news broke that Kitty Zhang (張雨綺) injured her husband with a knife, The Mermaid <美人鱼> star announced that she is getting a divorce.
She married billionaire, Yuan Bayuan (袁巴元), in 2016 after a whirlwind 70-day romance. The couple has a pair of boy-girl twins together.
Police have confirmed to the media that on September 24, they received a call from Yuan claiming that his wife used a fruit knife to injure his back. When the police arrived at the couple’s home, Kitty insisted that she was innocent. Since the knife could not be found, the case was handled as a family dispute.
It is unclear whether the media exposure of the incident pushed the couple’s divorce decision. Kitty’s manager confirmed that the 31-year-old Mainland Chinese actress and Yuan Bayuan reached a consensus to get a divorce on September 27: “A relationship is between two people. It has ended today. Hope all the dust will be settled, and that everyone will not intrude in their [business]. It is fate to be able to accompany each other for a time period. Wish everyone well and best wishes.”
This is Kitty’s second divorce in three years. Prior to her marriage with Yuan, Kitty was married to director Wang Quanan (王全安). But the couple divorced after Wang was arrested for procuring prostitution services in 2014.
Reactions
Yuan Bayuan’s ex-wife, anchorwoman Ge Xiaoqian (葛曉倩), was icy in her comments towards the couple’s knife incident. She wrote on Weibo, “Get away as far as possible from a mentally unstable person. You don’t know whom she’ll point the knife at tomorrow. Safety is a blessing. Don’t ruin others and ruin yourself.”
