Celebrities Remember Yammie Lam
Margie Tsang was very close with Yammie Lam.
Following the news of Yammie Lam’s (藍潔瑛) sudden death on November 3, many of her friends and previous colleagues have come forward to share their stories of the beautiful actress.
Margie Tsang
Margie Tsang (曾華倩), who has often been described as being almost like a sister to Yammie, said that she hopes that Yammie “has gone to another world, where she can find happiness and good health”.
When asked about the last time they saw each other, Margie said that it was many years ago, but that they did keep in touch by phone every now and then. In terms of what they last spoke about, her response was frank: “We talked about some things that I didn’t quite understand.”
According to Margie, it all happened “very suddenly, and is a real shame. The Yammie I knew really disliked others talking about her, so that’s why I don’t want to discuss her matters too much, as a form of respect. It’s what she would have preferred.”
Chingmy Yau
Chingmy Yau (邱淑貞), who had previously lent 1 million RMB to Yammie to cover her financial losses and accompanied her to meditate in Buddhist temples, hoped that Yammie “has ascended to a truly happy place, to achieve early Buddhahood.”
Lawrence Ng
Lawrence Ng (吳啟華) who was part of the same TVB acting class as Yammie, also expressed his regret after hearing of Yammie’s sudden passing. In a post on WeChat, he wrote: “Remembering the old days when we were in our early 20s, going to class together, graduating together, then working together. In the blink of an eye it’s now decades since then, I did not expect that you will leave so early. Wishing you a good departure.”
When asked about Yammie’s personality, the actor revealed that she could be “quite stubborn and extreme, a bit troublesome”. Nevertheless, the two of them did share a close relationship: “Quite a few years ago, I heard that she was experiencing some mental health issues, and so I went to visit her home, where we had a chat. At the time, I was worried about her – she told me she had been seeing ghosts, and that there was even one right behind me at the time which gave me a bit of a fright.”
Andy Lau
It was understood that the friends Yammie had trusted the most were Jackie Chan (成龍) and Andy Lau (劉德華). Yammie had co-starred with Andy in three dramas as well as movies, and Andy gave her $100,000 HKD when she filed bankruptcy. Andy was deeply saddened by Yammie’s passing and said through his representative, “I couldn’t accept this news so suddenly. I feel heartache and reluctance [to accept this]. Farewell to Yammie.”
Wai Ka Fai
According to Wai Ka Fai (韋家輝), who was the producer of acclaimed TVB series The Greed of Man <大時代>, Yammie left a deep impression on him during their time working together, and he felt that her passing was very regrettable. In terms of her acting ability, he had nothing but praise: “She might have had some criticism from outsiders, but the Yammie I knew had very high standards as an actress. When we made Looking Back in Anger <義不容情> and The Greed of Man, she was always very attentive about her own performance, and she would analyze how best to portray her role for every part and every scene.”
