Aaron Kwok Fell Off 6 Feet Concert Platform, Frightening Fans to Tears
In Aaron Kwok’s (郭富城) concert performance at the Hong Kong Coliseum last night, there was a malfunction with the sudden retraction of a complicated, multi-layer platform stage, causing Aaron to fall off a 6-feet platform! The accident resembled a wriggling fish landing on the floor, in which Aaron’s legs were thrown fully in the air! Biting back the pain, Aaron reluctantly hoisted himself up two seconds later and was rushed back stage to check for injuries. Fortunately, Aaron sustained no injuries and resumed his concert performance, even demonstrating his trampoline sequence!
Aaron’s 17-session concert world tour was approaching its near conclusion and the atmosphere was explosive last night. While singing his song Temptation of the Iron Curtain <鐵幕誘惑>, the platform stage suddenly retracted quickly, resembling a free falling machine leading to Aaron’s accident. Due to the nestled platform stage design, the audience members sitting close to the stage were unable to see the details of what had occurred and thought that Aaron’s disappearance was part of the performance. Fans sitting in the back rows witnessed the accident; they were shocked and started crying in fright! The dancers on stage quickly climbed off the platform stage to check on Aaron’s situation. When the music stopped and the lights were put out, the atmosphere grew tense.
Fortunately, the music was quickly resumed and Aaron performed a thrilling jumping trampoline stunt. Near the finale, Aaron even performed a 360 degree somersault in the air for a perfect closing! The concert concluded at midnight and fans shouted for an encore performance, but Aaron did not appear on stage again. The screams dragged on for ten minutes and when the concert venue turned on bright overhead lights to signal the show’s conclusion, the audience dispersed.
Aaron Kwok: “Let Me Bear the Brunt of the Accident!”
At the celebration party, Aaron Kwok indicated that he did not sustain any injuries from the fall off the platform stage. “I was not scared even one bit, perhaps I am not afraid of anything! The stage structure has always been secure. The accident may have been caused by the collapse of internal wires supporting the nestled platform. If the accident were to occur 5 minutes later, then 6 dancers would have occupied that stage area, which would have resulted in a more severe accident. It is okay for me to bear the brunt of the accident alone! There are always unexpected occurrences on stage, which makes me not willing to let go.”
Not An Acrobat
Aaron missed the jump twice during the trampoline act. Due to the accident, Aaron’s rhythm in performance was impacted. Since he was a professional singer, he did not have any previous acrobatic training. “I was upset [by the missed jumps as well], which I why I performed the 360 degree somersault in the conclusion of the concert.” It was Aaron’s decision to not reappear for an encore performance, as he wished the concert to have a perfect ending. When Madonna performed on stage, she will not appear for an encore to sing a few more songs.
Aaron’s rumored girlfriend, Lynn Hung (熊黛林), watched three sessions of Aaron’s concert performances at the Hong Kong Coliseum, giving a grade of 100 points. Aaron replied in a low-key manner, “Thank you; there are several friends who have watched my concert performance every evening.”
Regarding holding Lynn’s hand during the New Year’s Eve countdown, Aaron explained that it was normal to hold a good friend’s hand on such an occasion. Asked when he will complete his life plans (get married), Aaron replied, “You’re talking about something too far in the future! If I had any matters to announce, I will let everyone know.”

Luckily he didn’t suffer any serious injury, maybe he should have stop doing all these dangerous stunt in his concert. I dont understand why ppl have to show off their kungfu during their concert? is it necessary?

Well every singer needs to have a “talking point” for his/her concert at a major concert venue such as the Kong Kong coliseum. Aaron Kwok is not exactly known for his love ballads or pitch-perfect singing such as Jacky Cheung. Fans are there for his complicated choreography and excited live performance atmosphere.
Aaron already had many memorable dance choreography and to combine “Cirque du Soleil” elements (which is the hot trend in many worldwide stage performances thanks to sold out Las Vegas shows, thus spreading to Macau and other parts of the world). This marketing ploy is brilliant in my opinion. They should have taken it further by featuring true acrobats in the show, thus taking less burden off Aaron to do all the stunts himself.
That nestled platform design looks quite dangerous, easy to fall during a complicated dance sequence.
Yeah he should be careful since he is not a kid anymore, however that makes him special. How boring would it be if he just stood there singing like 90% of the other “singers”.
Going to his concert is like 2 in 1 i.e. a acrobatic and singing show!

Leon has his forte in those days. His voice is very suitable for love ballads. He has a soothing singing voice.
His music company is called A-Music if I’m not mistaken.
Is leon Lai still the boss of Miriam? If I rmb correctly Miriam has like terminated her contract due to some disputes with Leon..rite?

Aaron Kwok is my favorite among the Four Heavenly Kings, as his performance energy is hard to beat. In the 1990s, many singers sorely lacked any true stage performance magnetism. Aaron Kwok was one of the few stars who did and he was magnetic even on music programs. I was lucky to have watched him in concert one time in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
My take on the Four Heavenly Kings:
Jacky Cheung- It’s all about his vocals. His love ballads lack creativity from a music and lyrics’ perspective. His performance energy is great as well, as you feel Jacky’s passion for music. His dancing skills are mediocre at best though.
Andy Lau- He has charm before a live audience. Over time, his vocals increased in strength and some of his love ballads are quite memorable. Andy knows how to work his personal charm to engage a live audience.
Leon Lai- In my opinion, Leon’s music has the strongest creative backing behind him. Many of his 90s tunes are very memorable and his voice, while not perfect, lent a unique trademark to his music. I appreciate Leon more nowadays than at the height of his popularity. Although I feel that Leon is the weakest among the Four Heavenly Kings in engaging a live audience. Hehe in the early 2000s, Leon had a few songs mixed to fast dance tracks, which I actually liked.
Aaron is still my personal favorite Heavenly King though, likely due to his hot factor and male magnetism. 🙂
Aaron Kwok’s concert is the only celebrity concert I have gone to. The others, I just went to the fans meet. The concert experience is very unforgettable.
Aaron Kwok is also my fave 4 Heavenly King. I started liking him after he change his singing style to be more mature and better from the earlier kiddy voice. Before that, I thought he was all look and no talent. It is after I heard his new signing style on radio that I started to like him. Relistening to that song now, I don’t find it that good. I don’t know why I was so impressed back then. Maybe it’s the big leap of improvement from his earlier singing style.
I always felt that what Aaron lack in his voice (he was not born with a powerful voice like Jacky), he made up with good technique and hard work and he really does immerse himself in the song. I remember wanting to cry when I heard him sing 痛哭. Also, different song, we will use different technique to sing.
But, I personally felt he overdid his concert now (the extravagance in turning/flipping stage and all those extravagant costume). I don’t know. Maybe it was mesmerizing live. But, when I watch through TV, I don’t like it. Some of the drance and music does suit the songs anymore.

Among Aaron’s ballads, I like 聽風的歌 (his best ballad IMO), 爱的呼唤, and 風裡密碼. Actually slow ballads showcase the gentle whisper of his voice well (like a lover whispering in your ear), but his range is limited. The maturation in his voice makes him sound better in these ballads now.
I started liking him when 鐵幕誘惑 was released. He offered a performance energy that other artists didn’t possess. I still have reservations about Aaron’s acting though, still prefer to watch him perform on stage.
Voice strength, Aaron is stronger than Leon Lai IMO.

The song that made me like Aaron is 雨中感嘆號. My favourite ballads of Aaron’s is 望鄉 and another song I always forgot the title. That song is in the album where he wear a coat and top hat and the background is white with flower.
Leon is very good at love ballads, but, not very good with fast songs. He sang some fast songs in his later albums and I find that he lacks the energy and upbeatness that Aaron can inject into his fast songs.

Definitely. Leon Lai was known to sing “off-tune” when singing live. He always looked shy, awkward and incompetent on stage. But Leon had a lot of good songs (mainly slow ballads) in his albums and was popular because of his “gentleman” looks.

Andy Lau graduated from TVB’s acting class. Aaron Kwok started his career as a backup dancer at TVB and then appeared in dramas. I don’t know if he took any acting classes from TVB for the career move.

Aaron never attended the TV acting class he attended TVB dancing class.
Aaron was the only one among the 4 Heavenly Kings to caught my interest and be in my bias list throughout my late childhood and teenage years. Overtime, my preferences and bias list might have changed but I will always remember my “Aaron” years back then haha..Back then when I was younger I didn’t think much and never cared about his vocals nor acting skills, it was his charisma(and good looks :D) that attracted me.

Hehe I liked Aaron after repeated viewing of him dancing on stage. He was good looking back then but it wasn’t after his mid 30s that his chiseled good looks really shone, but I liked his energy and vibrancy very much.

Leon Lai has always been my favourite so I’m biased! lol..I went to a few of Leon’s concerts and I think he is really good at engaging with the audience even in his early days, Faye Wong is the one who can’t really engage with the audience although I do like her songs too..I went to two in Malaysia and two in Hong Kong of Leon’s.
I have not attended any of the others’ concerts as I didn’t care to so I can’t say how they compare 🙂

Oh I wanted to add I think Aaron never attracted me in terms of looks as he is kind of short…

not really ‘cold’ but I could be biased since I like her…more like she is not into like joking/ bantering with her fans..with her concerts it’s mostly singing, singing, singing haha and standing standing a little bit of movement makes the crazy fans go wild – not sure why??!
My parents went with me once and they literally fell asleep…they think she lacks showmanship although they say her voice is excellent…but they said if they go to a concert, they want to be ‘entertained’ too hehe if they just want to listen to the voice..they can buy a cd LOL
oh and she also has a rule against Encores ..
But she was alright I thought not as bad as what some people say, I think she does try to engage with the fans but it’s probably just not her forte and so she may come off as ‘cold’ to many people.
Same, Aaron Kwok is my favourite. I think he should ease off the dangerous stuff, not a spring chicken anymore and his body and mind would response slower to thing in an accident. When you are in your 20s, your recovery is a lot faster then when you are in your late 40s. Wish he would marry soon and have cute mini Aaron Kwoks running around in HK.

hahaha yes, you can have idol no matter which age. I liked grasshopers at first but that love didn’t last that long I think I liked them in few months. Then Aaron entered the singing industry ^^

Aaron Kwok’s concerts were amazing back in the early 2000s. His performance and stage presence was the best of the 4 Heavenly Kings. Jacky Cheung’s was all about his vocals and ‘golden’ songs. (Loved all his songs!) Leon’s concert was one of the worst/most boring I’ve been to. He was so awkward when he chatted with the audience and was loss for words on many moments. He was even ‘booed’ at one point but not sure if he heard it as it was a somewhat quiet boo. Haven’t been to Andy’s concert. I still don’t consider Andy a singer.
I’ll be going to Jacky Cheung’s concert in 2 weeks!! =)
re: Leon’s concert – I remember half-way into the concert, a guy from the audience shouted out in Cantonese “Good night la Leon!” but in a very rude way because the atmosphere was dry and he just didn’t have anything to say to the audience… so many pauses.. I was embarrassed for him. This was many years ago.
That’s nothing if compare with Miriam Yeung’s one lol. I read one of her article, she got shouted as “Pat Poh or 8 Poh” mean busywoman when she was like doing concert/walking/(not sure). I rmb she said she cried at home after that night
I have not been to the 4 heavenly kings concert but to Grasshopper’s concert. Their concert is really great with full of energy and zest. These 3 guys really rock! 🙂
100% argree on the Grasshopper’s show. They have the most powerful performance among the asian celebrities. The dancing moves, interaction with audience, the chemistry between 3 of them and their songs were just unbeatable. They are the best!

6 feet?! He is very lucky!!! Thank goodness! Didn’t wong kar kui fell off from stage but how many feet? Luckily Aaron didn’t hit his head!
If I remember correctly, Kar Kui died from his accident because of inadequate safety measure during a game show in Japan. Perhaps he did not expect the accident to happen since it’s just a game show and thus was not well-prepared and fell awkwardly.
Whereas Aaron might have been better prepared for accidents or mishaps as this comes part and parcel with the rehearsal especially for such an elaborate stunt setup for a concert.
