“Master Z: The Legend of Ip Man” Breaks $20 Million in Taiwan
Action blockbuster Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy <葉問外傳:張天志> has received a great response since its release despite the non-reprisal of Ip Man’s character. Starring Max Zhang (張晉), Michelle Yeoh (楊紫瓊), and Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎), the spin-off feature has garnered 121 million Yuan in Mainland China after its premiere, and it broke 20 million Yuan in Taiwan’s box office on New Year’s Day.
The action-packed movie is directed by Kung Fu master Yuen Woo-ping (袁和平) and co-produced by Donnie Yen (甄子丹) and Raymond Wong (黃百鳴). Action star Max’s superb performance as Cheung Tin Chi, Ip Man’s rival in Ip Man 3 <葉問3>, was well received. In the explosive film, his character fights head-on with the roles of Michelle, Tony Jaa, and Dave Bautista.
The 44-year-old portrayed a more aggressive style of Wing Chun, which was no challenge for the former wushu athlete who has a martial arts background. After all, the actor did begin his career as a stunt double, including for Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) and costar Michelle. He was also the body double of Vincent Chiao (焦恩俊) and Alyssa Chia (賈靜雯) in The Little Li Flying Dagger <小李飛刀>. However, Max’s dream was always to become an actor. After chasing his dream for 20 years, he finally landed a leading role with Master Z: The Legend of Ip Man.

Well, it’s time for a new generation of martial artists to step up
@sugadough How is Philip Ng’s performance and kung fu compared to Max Zhang? Both are promising martial artists. Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Donnie Yan are aging.
Unless Max Zhang has a rich family, Ada Choi is one of the fewest female artists that chose to marry to a man with a humble job. Max started as a stunt man and wasn’t famous at all and Ada stuck by him. Lots of news about artists choosing very rich partners recently so we should also point out the rare few that chose love over matter.
