G.E.M. May Have to Change Her Name After Contract Termination
G.E.M. (鄧紫棋) recently announced that she is looking to prematurely end her contract with her management company, Hummingbird, after an 11-year work relationship. She expressed her frustrations and disappointment that the company had been booking jobs without her consent. As well, she often argued about work and personal matters with the owner and music director.
Fans have been very worried about her future and have discovered that Hummingbird had filed for trademark rights over her Chinese stage name Tang Tse Kei (鄧紫棋) in 2014 and it was granted in 2015.
Fans have been writing long essays in support of G.E.M. over social media indicating, “Even if you lose the rights to distribution of your music or if you have to change your name, don’t worry, we love the person that you are and not your name.” However, there are worries that if G.E.M. loses the copyrights to her songs, 11 years of hard work will vanish and she will have rebuild her career from ground zero. As well, many fans are worried that her fan clubs will be dissolved and they will have to regroup on their own accord.

Is it really worth taking her stage name? I mean, their company can’t really use it and give it to someone else since everyone knows her as G.E.M. How would it benefit Hummingbird?
..wait, why did they file trademark rights in the first place?
Besides, it’s best to always leave or move on peacefully, otherwise, it’s just going to ruin your (Hummingbird) reputation.
I don’t think anyone outside of Hong Kong calls her G.E.M. anymore. I think she has outgrown her stage name, unlike angelababy.
@terrycrews19 haha yes, it’s a silly name anyway…
@terrycrews19 I think they’re also referring to her Chinese stage name 鄧紫棋 which is also trademarked. Her real Chinese name is 鄧詩穎.
