Raymond Lam: “Louis Koo Knows What I’m Looking for in My Career”

The 39-year-old will be returning to TVB after a five-year absence.

After graduating from TVB’s training class, Raymond Lam (林峯) acted in supporting roles for two years before landing a significant role in 2001’s A Step in the Past <尋秦記>, starring Louis Koo (古天樂) and Jessica Hsuan (宣萱). His first manager in TVB was Ronnie, who is also currently Louis’ manager. As fate would have it, Raymond has now signed with Louis’ management company.

New Challenges

Raymond expressed, “Last year was a new chapter in my life. I believe in fate and after knowing each other for such a long time, I trusted that Louis knows what I am looking for in my career. This is why I ultimately decided to join his company. My main concern is the team that I will be working with and whether the role will lead to any breakthroughs for my career. People who know me know that I do not like to repeat the same type of role even if it is the protagonist of the drama. I try my best to develop a different multi-faceted character every time.

“Thanks to Louis, I finally have a chance to act as the antagonist. This time in P Storm <P風暴>, I will be acting as Cho Yuan Yuan, a narcissistic, rich second generation who is smart but has absolutely no morals. There is a scene where I am sitting in jail but my hair is coiffed to the nines. This character believes that money will get him whatever he wants and is extremely arrogant even in jail.”

It has been five years since he left TVB and every time he saw a TVB car on the streets, Raymond would lookout for his old colleagues and friends. The actor will be returning to film Line Walker 3 <使徒行者3>. “I decided to return to TVB as I was invited by Felix To (杜之克) to work on a project that I found very interesting. I can’t divulge any more details at the moment, but the I know the team has worked hard to come up with a role suited for me. I am currently focused on holding concerts in China and Macau this year. In 2020, I am planning for a concert tour.”

When asked if he expects that this new role will land him TVB Best Actor, Raymond answered, “As an actor, we try our best to develop a character that will be well remembered by the audience. I am someone that is hungry to try new roles rather than to win awards.”
