Fellow Big Four Members Dicky Cheung and William So React to Andy Hui’s Scandal

While all main parties have offered apologies and statements on the Andy Hui (許志安) and Jacqueline Wong (黃心穎) cheating incident, the scandal is far from over. Many colleagues involved in the entertainment industry have suffered from this incident, whether directly or indirectly.

Dicky Cheung (張衛健) and William So (蘇永康), Andy’s close friends and fellow members of Big Four, have responded in support of Andy and his wife Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), who has chosen to stay by Andy’s side. Dicky and William’s comments have attracted controversial attention.

Dicky responded with an excerpt from the Book of Isaiah of the Old Testament: “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice.” Dicky added that he hopes all married couples would be able to live truthfully with love.

The actor shared that he had attempted to contact Andy after the scandal broke, but Andy has been silent and has not responded to any messages. While Dicky is worried for his friend, he hopes that Andy and Sammi will find strength together.

William also responded with support for Andy and Sammi, but his comments were more harshly received by netizens. After liking Sammi’s statement on Instagram, William received many negative responses from netizens, in which many were saying that he didn’t have the right to comment on Sammi’s post. One netizen said, “You got married, got divorced, then got married again. You’re a mess.” Another said, “You always say that you don’t care about other people’s business, but why are you coming out now to talk about this? William So? Who?”

The 51-year-old eventually defended himself in the comments of his social media page, saying that the netizens also had no right to judge him or the persons involved either. At a music event on Friday, William commented on his squabble with netizens saying, “I personally think all of should be over. Kenneth Ma (馬國明) made a very nice point: the people who should be making statements have already done so. People like us, who are on the sidelines, all we can do is give them emojis. I do feel that everyone has a right to voice their opinion, but sine Easter is happening, I feel that we should end the old, and welcome the new.”

In related news, Sammy Leung (森美), who has worked with Jacqueline on his travel show Sammy On the Go <森美旅行團>, has showed support to Jacqueline by liking her apology post on Instagram. This angered many netizens, but Sammy defended his actions.

“I liked [Jacqueline’s] post because she apologized for her mistake,” he said. “It is something I respect. I know there are many different opinions on this. This incident has hurt many people. I don’t want to say too much and cause misunderstandings.”

    1. @bearbear apology is cheap. Has zero worth if the person doesn’t mean it as in the case of these 2 cheaters. Would they have apologised if they had not been caught? Most definitely not. So the way some people are lapping up their apologies and giving them pats on their backs really baffles me. Such gullible fools.

      1. @passingby2 I agree. Her apology does not mean anything especially when both don’t appear to be first timer with each other. I just thought it was a joke when Sammy tried to justify his liking to her “apology” when JW obviously left out one important party in this whole mess caused by her and that scumbag.

  1. Japanese proverbs says, “When the character of a man is not clear to you. Look at his friends”.

    1. @niangniang Kinda agree in a way but not completely, cos look at Seungri of Big Bang and Taeyang of Big Bang is of different league although they are very close

    2. @niangniang I beg to differ. Just because people are close friends doesn’t mean they are the same type of person or would do the same things. There are different levels of friendship and a myriad of things that could bring people together as friends, so it’s unfair to broad brush and say that because you’re their friend, that means you’re just like them or have the same character. Each person should be judged on the basis of their own words and actions, not the actions of their friends (or even their families for that matter)….

      1. @llwy12 Partly true about being closed friends doesn’t mean they would the same things. But the gang doesn’t have a good record. William So got busted for drugs. Edmund got busted for drunk driving.

I agree with you that it is partially true as you are usually close friends with people who share the same interests or have similar characteristics which is what you bought you together as friends in the first place. That is particularly true if you are close friends. But of course your friends or even your family cannot define you as you are you and they are who they are. It just depends.

  2. Of course they stand by him. Andy’s only faithful relationship is with these 3 or one of the 3. He never cheated on them and call someone else BFF. Forgive is good but as a friend if you see your friend is rotten to the core and you still justify their very existence, you might want to question your own purpose in life. Andy is not rotten to the core. It’s just an affair or many affairs. Just sex. Wife forgave him. He learn humility. It’s not like he killed someone or like that kpop scandal with rape and insults and much more, it’s not like he is irredeemable. But still … i wonder how much they knew.

Sort of off topic but Dick-y said his best friend is Andy Hui and those 2. However, when he fell into deep financial trouble, it was Andy Lau who helped him. I wonder where the 3 of them were? Dick-y of course considers Andy Lau a good friend too.

  3. As a friend, I think you will mostly still remain friends in these situations.

I do have a friend I know is the 3rd party and have expressed disaprovement but Im not going to distance myself from the friend.

If the affair was hurting a mutual friend however, then that might be a different story….
