Jasper Liu: “Plain Hard Work Isn’t Enough”
In the entertainment industry for a decade, Taiwanese actor Jasper Liu (劉以豪) finally gained widespread popularity after the 2016 film Take Me to the Moon < 帶我去月球>. With his recent drama Before We Get Married <我們不能是朋友> becoming a big hit as well as upcoming Netflix projects, Jasper’s stardom continues to shine brighter.
On Working with Puff Kuo Again
Starring alongside Taiwanese actress Puff Kuo (郭雪芙), Jasper takes on the role of a charismatic but aggressive stock trader who only believes in taking risks in life and thinks that love is nothing but an investment. After meeting the frugal and down-to-earth Puff, Jasper slowly realizes that his original principles were wrong and begins falling in love with a woman who is the polar opposite of himself.
Working with Puff again after four years, Jasper said, “I’m very happy that I get to act with her again. I want to thank her because it was my first time taking on the lead role in our drama Pleasantly Surprised < 喜歡．一個人 > years ago. I was really nervous when I had to do interviews and attend promotional events. However, she would take the lead and block the cameras by putting herself in front of me. Not only did she minimize the stress and pressure, but she also helped me become less afraid of being in front of the camera.”
Jasper and Puff’s kissing scenes in Before We Get Married were much talked about. Their chemistry is due to having known each other for years. Jasper said, “Due to the understanding and trust between us, I was able to put aside my usual shyness and tackle the intimate scenes. I truly thank Puff, for allowing me to enact a modern adult love drama together.”
Although he plays a talented stock trader in Before We Get Married, Jasper is not very good with his finances in real life. Giving his money to his mother to manage, Jasper said he is not someone who is willing to take high risks with regards to money. However, having always been a hard worker, Jasper understands the value of working hard to make money. Before his official debut 10 years ago, Jasper was splitting his time between screening interviews, fashion show fittings, and working as a part-time employee at a café and burger shop.
Plain Hard Work is Not Enough
Feng Kai (馮凱), director of Before We Get Married, once told Jasper that it doesn’t matter if you’re a hard worker – because there will always be someone who’s working even harder than you. With a decade of experience before gaining popularity, Jasper finally understands that concept and learns that sometimes just plain hard work is not enough to be recognized.
But luckily, the actor has always been confident in himself. Grateful for every opportunity he was given since his debut, no matter how little or insignificant, Jasper said he still gives his past 10 years a mark of 99 percent.
Jasper believes that love is one of the most important things in life. Even though work is important to him, he believes that taking good care of oneself and one’s family members is a top priority. The actor gives his gratitude to those who stood by his side for so many years and never stopped believing in him. He expressed, “I want to thank everyone who has been with me – whether it be my parents, my sister, my Eelin Entertainment family, co-workers, fans, or friends, I’m truly grateful for all the support I’ve received in helping me survive in this industry. I’m happy that my work can be seen, and I’m most thankful to know that I’m able to touch the hearts of many people.”
