Celebrity Weddings: Janet Chow And Timmy Hung

Hong Kong TVB artists, Janet Chow (周家蔚) and Timmy Hung (洪天明) got married on March 21, 2012 after dating for four years. At the wedding ceremony, Timmy declared, “I will love you forever and earn more money for you to spend!”  The bride and groom shed tears of happiness while exchanging wedding rings. The couple held a grand wedding celebration at the W Hotel on Wednesday night, followed by an after party celebration on Friday night with their close friends.

Thirty-seven-year-old Timmy Hung was the eldest son of martial arts superstar, Sammo Hung (洪金宝) from his first marriage to  his childhood sweetheart and martial arts classmate, Jo Yun Ok, a woman of Korean origin. In 1995, Sammo married actress, Joyce Godenzi (高麗虹). Sammo was extremely happy to see his eldest son get married, arriving early at the W Hotel at noon to prepare for the wedding celebration ahead.

Born in Toronto, Canada,  twenty-eight-year-old Janet Chow won the 2006 Miss Hong Kong first-runner up title. Rumors circulated that Janet was in the early stages of her pregnancy; the bride was spotted with a slight belly protrusion during a gown fitting. Although Janet denied her pregnancy on several occasions, she also said that she would love to have a “dragon” baby.

The Bridal Party

Janet and Timmy were a very social couple who possessed many friends in the entertainment industry. Eager to include her closest friends as witnesses to one of the happiest days in her life, Janet’s  bridal party consisted of 28 bridesmaids, including Angela Tong (湯盈盈), Toby Leung (梁靖琪), Elaine Yiu (姚子羚), Margaret Chung (鍾麗淇), and Vivien Yeo (楊秀惠).

Janet spent a five-figure sum and especially designed a set of lingerie and gold-leaf soap gifts for her bridesmaids. In their speech at the wedding banquet, the bridesmaids shared their fondest memories of their friendship with Janet.

Timmy’s ten groomsmen consisted primarily of his good friends at TVB, including Chin Ka Lok (錢嘉樂), Michael Tse (謝天華), Frankie Lam (林文龍), and Carlo Ng (吳家樂).

A Star-Studded Wedding Gala

Due to Sammo Hung’s illustrious career, the wedding included numerous influential guests such as: Alan Tam (譚詠麟), Wong Kam Sam (黃錦燊), Angie Chiu (趙雅芝), Mr. and Mrs. Yuen Biao (元彪夫), Cally Kwong (鄺美雲), Patrick Tse (謝賢), Deborah Li (狄波拉), Law Ka Ying (羅家英), Liza Wang (汪明荃), Wong Jing (王晶), Albert Yeung (楊受成), Jacky Cheung (張學友), Michael Miu (苗僑偉) and Jamie Chik (戚美珍).

Wedding Night

After their wedding banquet concluded on Wednesday evening, Janet and Timmy stayed overnight at the W Hotel. Asked by the press about their “passionate” wedding night, Timmy replied, “We did not leave the hotel room for more than 40 hours, sleeping the entire time!”  The newlyweds avoiding revealing the intimate details of their wedding night.

After Party

An additional celebration party was held on Friday, March 23rd, with the attendance of Janet and Timmy’s closest friends, a total of 800 guests. The party carried a leopard theme.  The groomsmen were instructed to control the wedding atmosphere, while preventing the bridesmaids from running amok with their antics!

At the after party, Timmy was forced to declare his love for Janet publicly. Timmy vowed, “After marriage, I will do my best to become a better person. I hope to forge a career with greater results!” Janet responded, “I will take good care of you for the rest of my life!”

Eric Tsang (曾志偉) joked about the bridesmaids’ antics, “Timmy will likely be unable to leave the stage. Those 28 bridesmaids are inhumane! They did not help Timmy, but rather ganged up on him!”  Eric chose not to help Timmy drink the guest toasts tossed his way.

Guests who attended the Friday night after party included: Aaron Kwok (郭富城), Nat Chan (陳百祥), Wong Hung Sau (黃杏秀), Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), Louis Yuen (阮兆祥), Michael Tao (陶大宇), Koni Lui (呂慧儀), Alvina Kong (江欣燕) and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Au Yeung (歐陽震華), Evergreen Mak (麥長青), HotCha, Nancy Sit (薛家燕), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), and Sharon Luk (陸詩韻).

Although invited, Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) and Ron Ng (吳卓羲) were unable to attend the wedding after party due to work. Ron’s girlfriend, Viann Zhang (张馨予), attended the party without Ron’s company.

Jayne: No doubt Janet and Timmy’s 2-day wedding celebration was a very rare gathering of so many fabulous Hong Kong celebrities, both in the film and television industries, rivaling the biggest red carpet events! Janet and Timmy have always come across as a very fun couple, passionately in love. Congratulations to them! Reading about their wedding, I already imagined how much fun their parties were! I always felt that Timmy was a guy who knew how to have fun and loved to laugh.

  1. Thanks for the article!

Janet and Timmy were one of my most anticipated weddings this year. They seem to be a very lovely couple. Not surprised their wedding party was so huge. Timmy seems to be a very outgoing guy who makes friends easily and Janet seems very down-to-earth and a sweet girl.

    1. Bridget,
Did you watch the wedding video clips? The second clip, taken at their wedding after party, looks like a lot of fun, complete with Timmy’s trademark humor!

I didn’t realize that Timmy was half Korean until today. Actually, his features do look Korean. Didn’t realize he was already 37, as his goofy behavior makes him appear much younger.

I disliked the bridesmaids’ dresses at the after party though. The sheer black piece at the bust makes it look more like a nightgown. I guess the theme of the after party can be described as “sexy and wild.”

      1. I don’t like the bridesmaids’ dresses at the after party either. Agree that the sheer black piece at the bust makes it look more like a nightgown. I

      2. Thanks Jayne for this more detailed article. I am sure they had a blast but I wonder why she had to have so many bridesmaids?? I thought that was a bit unneccessary, but that’s just what I felt… Their wedding was really fun and I hope that they will have memories to cherish for a lifetime! Congrats to them!

  2. He has both of the man lungs’ (Michael Tong & Frankie Lam) as his groomsmen!? Hot!!! The Wedding looks absolutely fun!

    1. Perhaps it is because they get married in the year of the Dragon (“lone” in Chinese)

  3. Congrats to the couple, I think they’re very cute together! And it does look like Janet is a little more ‘bloated’ than usual so she might be preggers. And she’s from Miss Hong Kong 2006 not 2008 and was 1st runner up not 2nd.

    1. Lily, thanks for the catch. Have made the correction.

I love writing about weddings! They are a very special moment in a celebrity’s personal life.

  4. you mentioned margaret chung twice in the bridal party list

    1. Hello, thanks for the catch. The list of bridesmaids and guests were overwhelming.

      1. It’s not a big deal so I don’t think you all need to be so hard on Jayne.

  5. Surprised that Aimee Chan was not invited to Janet’s wedding as they were both from Toronto and competed at both Toronto-Chinese Pageant and Miss Hong Kong Pageant together in the same year. Aimee was Miss Hong Kong and Janet was 1st runner up, but they lost in Toronto-Chinese Pageant the year before.

    1. How do you know she wasn’t invited? Many others were invited but could not attend due to work commitments. EG. Charmaine, Ron.

Aimee chan is actually in Hengdian, China filming The Eunuch with the rest of the cast.

      1. lol, good one fez! sandcherry just likes to assume prolly… or she has personal connections to know Aimee was the one who was not invited

      2. Okay. Perhaps Aimee was invited; I just did not see her name in the above article.

Anyway, I have never seen them chatting with each other or attending the same functions in Hong Kong. Perhaps they don’t click with each other.

All the contestants participated in Toronto-Chinese Pageant had to go through a 2 to 3-month intensive training, so they must know each other very well. Many of the contestants become very good friends after the competition. As Janet had invited so many friends to her wedding, I was just surprised that Aimee was not there.

Thanks anyway for telling me that Aimee is Hengidan, China, filming “The Eunuch”.

      3. Sorry to disappoint you but Aimee is not having a feud with Janet.

Aimee msged Janet personally on Weibo and offered her congratulations and said she couldn’t make it to the wedding because she’s filming in Hengdian. That confirms your speculation was wrong in that she didn’t receive an invite.

Too many ‘perhaps’ and too many ‘assumptions’….

      4. I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I am glad to know that they are friends as they both were from Toronto.

        Thanks for letting me know.

      5. Fez and hello – no need to carry on your borderline abusive commenting into other articles.

      6. @Bridget: just stick to writing ur reviews ok and mind ur own business. The person in question didn’t even complain, you come and complain on their behalf? Plus I just stated the fact, I didn’t refer to ‘other articles’ – now ur quick to assume to.

If u don’t like my ‘abusive comments’ (seriously? didnt notice it. Someone being a bit sensitive there) then don’t read. I wasn’t even talking to you.

      7. just stick to writing ur reviews ok and mind ur own business

The person in question didn’t even complain, you come and complain on their behalf?

Actually, you seem more sensitive than most here.

      8. Let’s just focus on the subject…no need to get so personal. And Bridget is both a great reviewer and great comment-er =)

  6. The most star-studded wedding of this year. It reminded me of Toby’s wedding. Congrats to them!

  7. Congratulations to Timmy & Janet! Thank you Jayne for sharing.

  8. Janet, congratulations from your home town! Best of luck in your married life.

  9. wow congrats to them, they seem very happy and blessed, awesome how their wedding seems so fun and harmonious!

  10. Janet is friend with Bernice Liu too. Wonder how she’s able to juggle the friendship w/Amiee Chan and Bernice?

    1. I don’t believe that it was the reason – to juggle the friendship with Aimee Chan and Bernice Liu – as Bernice is a friend of Janet. Janet knew Aimee in Toronto way before she knew Bernice Liu in Hong Kong.

  11. I wonder how many dresses Janet wore?? She seemed to wear a lot..

    1. But I dislike the all black gown she wore, she blended into the carpet! lol

  12. What a star studded wedding!! It feels more like a red carpet event with so many celebs that came… Great to see everyone together again.

  13. What a wedding! Love seeing all the stars together. In terms of celebrities, it reminded me of Toby’s wedding.

But, why do most of them dressed very casual? lol

  14. I’m still surprise at the fact that Sammo has 2 wives… and they’re both living happy without each other. Not that it’s a bad thing, I’m just quite surprise.
    For a second, I couldn’t even recognize Toby 🙂

      1. The brown and bright blue was quite a mismatch. Don’t know what she was thinking there…

      2. there’s not that many photos here but if you go to other sites, you’ll see more. another bad dresser was Ron Ng’s gf. She wore this white dress with black leather platforms with laces…. very very conservative…. and it didn’t look good.

      3. Could you please give us the name of the other site?

      4. Vintage style. This combo is color block and it looks quite ok.

      5. ^ Her color block is just wrong. I don’t feel the ‘vintage’ in her blue dress. More of a mismatch.

    1. Did Timmy’s biological mom come to the wedding??

      1. Yes, she did. She is the one standing beside Timmy in the first video dressed in a purple outfit.

      2. I did not watch the clips so thanks for telling me…

  15. Congrats to the newlywed couple.

Love the mixture of pro and no pro photos. I think it;s lovely that they shared so many moments from their wedding. Lots of celebs generally don’t like to even share photos unless they have a huge magazine deal.

I must admit, I do believe the rumours that Janet is pregnant, only because Timmy has always said it was too early to marry and now all of a sudden they’ve gotten hitched!

I like the gown she’s wearing with the bridesmaids, it shows off what shoes she’s wearing! I’m always disappointed that most wedding gowns don’t show what shoes you’re wearing even though most brides spend a fortune on getting the right pair of shoes and nobody ever gets to see them!!

    1. Actually, Timmy & Janet has engaged for nearly a year (since June 2011 if not mistaken). They had originally planned to get married in end of 2011, but Sammo Hung doesn’t have free schedule. So they end up postponing to April 2012.

Just saying that they didn’t suddenly get hitched.

    2. didn’t they register for marriage in australia? i remember reading that somewhere

    3. Whether she is pregnant or not, time will tell…

  16. Ya whether she is pregnant or not..time will tell. But just admit it if really pregnant instead of keep denying (like the case of Yoyo Chen and Vincent Wong).

I admire Annie Man that admit she is 3 months pregnant on her wedding day 🙂

    1. If she is pregnant less than 3 months, China’s old belief that revealing to other ppl (not family or friends) may make the children scare and go away (mean miscarriage).

      1. Yes, hence Yoyo denied her pregnancy and Annie Man confirmed hers once she passed her first trimester.

Seems to be the norm now to get pregnant and then tie the knot 🙂

      2. I don’t believe in that myth at all…But I guess it is good to be on the safe side. I have seen cases where people announce it before the first trimester and they and the baby are fine.

      3. Indeed a stupid myth. So if the girl can’t get pregnant, then just stay unmarried or dump the girl?

      4. @exoidus: Hope you will treat your current or future gf well and don’t ask her to give you her virginity, also don’t ask if her virginity is lost or not. If you can, that’s good.

@HTS: You can believe or not, but it’s a safe game to the mamas. Don’t have any harm to unreveal the pregnancy in first three months to the public.

      5. Fox,
“@exoidus: Hope you will treat your current or future gf well and don’t ask her to give you her virginity, also don’t ask if her virginity is lost or not. If you can, that’s good.”

Wah, where did this advice come from?

      6. Hehe Jayne I was thinking the same since it doesn’t seem any related to the topic.

Fox daijoubu? You are drunk aren’t you?

Don’t tell me you are telling your bf that “advice” LOL. I suppose you should treat your bf the same way as well, hehe…

      7. Yea, I know it doesn’t because my brother’s wife announced her pregnancy right away when she first found out that and my nephew is fine… SHe is ok as well…

      8. Because you said that “So if the girl can’t get pregnant, then just stay unmarried or dump the girl?” so I hope you won’t ask for the virginity of your gf (if you are having one or future gf, if you aren’t). It isn’t an advice but a hope because many men now like their gfs to give them virginity but still want to get married with someone with virginity.

      9. @HTS: the exception of this myth is to the family, friends or relatives. They only avoid to reveal to everyone who isn’t really close to the woman.

      10. I still don’t believe this myth… With the people that I know, they don’t tell anyone period…

      11. It’s up to you. People choose to believe watever they believe.

      12. I only said that bc you mentioned about “test the machine first” LOL.

Seriously, I thought that marrying a virgin was an artifact that belonged to the ancient society. Personally I wouldn’t care less if I truly love the girl.

      13. Well, my quote was meant as a half-joke. Guess we are on the same frequency now…

      14. A bit different that mine is a whole joke while yours is a half joke.

      15. How could I know it was a joke? Guess im just not smart enough.

      16. I know you didn’t know then I have to note after that.

  17. This wedding is such a fashion show, all you see are lots of pictures and changes of outfits.

    1. I think it just reflects their personalities. Plus in most Chinese weddings the bride has many costume changes. Rare that the groom will do it too but I think Timmy knows how to please his bride 😉

  18. i’m so happy for them, wish them a lifetime of happiness! and if she really is pregnant, then it’s just double happiness! it’s nice to see some of the regular super trio guests at the wedding, loved watching them and timmy on the show

  19. WOW sure such a big celeb and fun wedding! They’re such an adorable couple and Congratz to both and best wishes.

  20. timmy is such a lucky man, his wife Janet is such a beauty. Congrats to them and I don’t like what Linda Chung is wearing that night kinda too casual imo. Even I wear fakelashes to my relative’s wedding banquet lol.

    1. Veejay,
I believe Linda Chung was photographed in the above outfit at Friday’s wedding after party, which is meant to be more casual. Aaron Kwok wore jeans to the event. The guests may have worn more formal attire at Wednesday’s wedding banquet.

Thus far, I liked Daniel Wu and Lisa S.’s nightclub style wedding party the most. It sounds so free for the guests to mingle and dance all night in a comfortable lounge space, rather than go through a banquet’s formalities.

      1. Thanks for the info Jayne, at first i really thought linda wore so casually to Timmy’s wedding which is kinda ar…lol.

Actually I love attending ppl’s wedding because I can dress exeggerately without worrying too much LOL!! and I also like the environment of these weddings cuz there will be plenty of this teary speeches haha..

      2. Veejay,
There is too much pressure to hold your own wedding party, but attending others is indeed fun. You can tell so much about the personalities of the newlyweds by just analyzing the type of wedding they held, the jokes made (or lack of), the speeches their best friends give, the photo slideshow etc.

The best wedding I went to was a church ceremony in which it was very heartfelt. The bride and groom were Christians and the pastor gave a very personalized ceremony, since he knew the couple well. All their church friends sang in the chorus and stepped up to share personal stories of the couple. Since the couple met and fell in love with each other at church, it was a place filled with many of their memories of love as well as friendship. It was a large wedding in which over 500 guests were present, but very intimate. The bride also cried many tears.

There are also weddings that are held at truly beautiful venues, but felt empty since it lacked the personal factor.

    2. Forgot to mention that I also wore something nice not too casual to my relative wedding before someone come and bomb me with how did I know that Linda wasn’t wearing any fake eyelashes since hk girls are common of wearing one? lol…

      1. Veejay,
At the Chinese wedding banquets here, some elderly guests are notorious in disrespecting the occasion and going to a banquet in old sweaters and sneakers, not even bothering to wear a button-down shirt or tie. Or treat it as a take-out event in which goodies, such as the wine and extra food. I have heard of my dad’s friends going to banquets and giving $20 cash gift.

      2. is it because of Weather issue? maybe the weather in the area where you live (NY) is always cold thus elderly just doesn’t bother changing into something approriate?

Well in my city KL here, ppl esp girls always something so exeggerated and sexy to ppl’s weddings. Sometimes they even dressed more prettier than the bride herself lol.

      3. Veejay,
Sometimes the elderly come to the banquets after a long work day. Thus their attire is very casual. Throwing a Chinese wedding banquet in NY Chinatown is always a mixed bag because there will always be elements that detract from the elegance, such as guests disrespecting the occasion, yucky restrooms, or something as simple as the guests stepping out to garbage-filled streets when they leave the banquet at night.

The above three factors happened at my own wedding. We knew, but a Chinese wedding allowed us to save money.

      4. Jayne,

that’s just too disrespect imo giving out $20 to a wedding banquet? lol.. we here in Msia give out atleast $100 per person and the cost of the table (with the foods etc) usually costs around 600-1000 per table. And by the end of the banquet, the wedding couple and their families usually start counting those “angpows” received to settle the bill and there will always be ‘extra” to pocket.

      5. Veejay,
$20 is an extreme example and likely doesn’t happen often. But I gave that as an example noting how disrespectful some guests can be at weddings.

Weddings sometimes bring out long-held grudges; people you didn’t really wish to invite were invited due to compromise. Or in Timmy’s case, his wedding was somewhat spoiled by the presence of Janet’s ex-boyfriend. Apparently gossip got back to Timmy that Chester was talking to some girls that night.

Due to the level of personal importance associated with weddings and a pressure to impress, many bridesmaids fight with the brides and groomsmen with grooms leading up to the wedding. When everyone wants to be involved (even an ex-flame), there are a lot of sensitive feelings at stake.

      6. Veejay,
The price per banquet table here starts at $600 USD as well for a Chinese banquet. Most couples pick a menu which might take the price a little higher, but I haven’t been to one in which it appeared that the couples paid $1,000 USD per table. Even with shark fin, it’s not that expensive. What other specialties would take the price so high?

It sounds expensive to have a wedding in Malaysia as well.

Western style banquets’ prices are all dependent upon the venue hall’s unique qualities. My dream wedding was to have it on a yacht, take in the water view, and set off fireworks in the sky. However, this didn’t happen as my family wanted a Chinese style banquet and budget reasons.

      7. Well with an ex attending your wedding is truly sucked unless you have been maintaning a good relationship with him/her if not, he/she will definitely spoil your wedding and become a very unwanted guest imo. I could understand Timmy’s frustration and its sometimes hard to stop one (ex) from attending the wedding since it was crowded with lot of guests and the whole environment were like a chaos during the banquet. And worst thing is Timmy has to hold his anger not to spoil the banquet by “accepting” this unwanted guest to enjoy himself even disturbing others.. if Timmy persist to escort this unwanted guest out, it will eventually create a tension and bad moment to the other guests.. I say blame janet’s cousin for inviting her ex to the banquet.. lol.

      8. Dressing nicely to a wedding is a kind of respect to the wedding couple and the ceremony. I hate people wearing jeans, casual sweaters and pants, or sneakers to a wedding.

As a matter of fact, I have seen celebrities wearing very causal clothes (some in “so-called fancy” jeans) and sandals to another celebrities’ wedding banquet in photos.

      9. Jayne,

well, table which costs $1000 are usually serve with bigger prawns, high quality of abalone, more sharkfins, more sea cucumbers and the desserts are probably Bird nest or hashima (frog’s meat) which is considered quite costly here. I’ve been to weddings that cost 600 per table and the prawns there weren’t as big as those serve in a table that cost 1000. I will still pay 100 per person even if I go to those banquets that 600 per table lol. Probably because of “face” in our chinese pride, giving out the amount of money represent someone’s status eventually.

      10. Most weddings in US have lobster and sharkfin soup. But abalone, sea cucumber, and bird’s nest? Man, no wonder they have wedding crashers!

      11. US too? For all their cries of HK please stop serving shark fin soups?

      12. Jayne, in Malaysia, it is a LAW for the guests to arrive 2 hours late, invitation says sayyyy 6pm sharp? They arrive at about 8pm and food serve about perhaps much later. I haven’t been to a lot of weddings but it is still the same situation. SOme dresses nice, those who knows the groom or bride’s families well but many do wear jeans and shirt, but not shabbily but still rather simply. A tradition to scream YAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM SENGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Luckily I suppose nowadays less people drink like their lives depend on it. And I notice nowadays a lot of those slideshows of pictures and then the introduction will either make you go wow or blush. A lot of waiters turn to MC and say a lot of nice words but rather robotic. However Chinese weddings are still the best, food, entertainment and whatever else. A real show.

Malay weddings are much simpler, although they tend to hold theirs at halls these days looking rather extravagent but the food is still typical malay servings and portions. Indian weddings are show stoppers if they want it to be.

      13. josie,

R u implying that sea cucumbers, bird nest and abalone are yucky thus there are wedding crashers? lol.

Well i’m not sure about your taste but braised sea cucumbers with “fatt choy” are really delicious. And bird nest have high collagen ingredient..so yeah.

      14. Veejay,

No, the opposite. Those items are certainly expensive and delicious. That’s why uninvited guests are willing to crash the wedding for that free food!

      15. rofl josie.

if thats the reason for crashing the wedding then this wedding crasher is absolutely “poor” until he/she can’t afford to have such food but I think the way chinese in the state serving lobster in the banquet is quite nice too.. atleast more meat as compare with prawns.

      16. It’s up to the eyelashes. Some natural eyelashes are good enough to use mascara alone and no need to use fake eyelashes. Sometimes fake eyelashes can look horrible on a pair of eyes.

      17. it also depends on what type of fake eyelashes you wear for your eyes, if you put those exeggerating one, then of course they will make your eyes look horrible but if you put those natural but long, then it will eventually helps to make your eyes even more appealing. Some ppl even wear wig to banquet so they dont have to “set” their hair or do anything to it.

  21. Congrats to the couple.
I’ve always like Timothy, he’s goofy & funny in all shows!!!! Janet is sweet & quiet. Good match.
May their career takes off after this.
What a wedding!!! everyone is there!
    Sammo must be very happy!!!
