“Ming Dynasty” Starring Tang Wei Premieres December 17th
Tang Wei (汤唯) is set to make her television drama comeback with the historical epic Ming Dynasty <大明风华>, her first TV drama in 12 years.
Starring Tang Wei as Sun Ruowei, Ming Dynasty follows the life of Sun from 16 to 70 years old. The only surviving descendant from a clan that was put to death, Sun spent much of her teen years as a street rat, begging for food in the streets. By chance, she saves the life of a royal, and her own life was changed forever.
Tang Wei trained for two months prior to filming, which took a total of eight months. Ming Dynasty not only follows the life of the legendary Empress Sun, but also offers commentary on the cultural changes and social lives of the people who lived during Empress Sun’s reign in the height of the Ming Dynasty.
“I hope to be able to deliver a different kind of empress for the audience,” said Tang Wei, who described her character as “always on the edge”, preparing to defend herself in a sudden strike.
Directed by Zhang Ting (张挺), Ming Dynasty also stars Zhu Yawen (朱亚文), Deng Jiajia (邓家佳), Qiao Zhenyu (乔振宇), Wu Yue (吴越), and Liang Guanhua (梁冠华), with guest appearances by Lay Zhang (张艺兴), Yu Haoming (俞灏明), and Wang Xuebing (王学圻). It premieres December 17, 2019 on Hunan TV.
