TVB Confirms “Big White Duel” Sequel in the Works
The cast and crew of Big White Duel <白色強人> got together to celebrate the drama’s success in winning Best Drama at the 2019 TVB Anniversary Awards. As Kenneth Ma (馬國明) won Best Actor for his role in the drama, he stepped up to pay for the banquet dinner. Not wanting the momentum to end, TVB executive Catherine Tsang (曾勵珍) announced at the banquet that the popular drama will follow up with a sequel.
New TVB King Kenneth took the opportunity to thank his colleagues, “There aren’t a lot of people so I can treat them. Let Roger Kwok (郭晉安) pay for the bigger banquet. Everyone worked hard; it’s right to reward them. Today Catherine announced the good news that there will be a sequel. I’m really happy.”
According to Kenneth, filming will start at the end of the year and the plot will continue with the original cast while adding some new characters. Kenneth added, “The drama was successful because the research was done thoroughly. The sequel will need more time to prepare. It needs a good script before filming so we won’t have any regrets.”
While Kenneth is reprising his role in the drama, he does not feel any pressure due to the original series’ success. “No pressure. I just need to do my best. It’s like soccer; just because this year was a good season doesn’t mean that the next season will be as good. I need to continue to do my best. I hope the audience will like and support it. “
Catching up with Kelly Cheung
As one of the stars of the drama, Kelly Cheung (張曦雯) was seen having a good time at the banquet. With the Luna New Year celebrations coming up, Kelly will be taking a break even though she prefers to work. “My parents are not in Hong Kong, and I don’t have any relatives here. I will have dinner with my grandma.”
Kelly shared that she had already brought her boyfriend to meet her family, “My mom and dad are very important to me, but they didn’t really say anything about passing their approvals. The most important thing is to get along, and they get along with my boyfriend.”

Considering that I didn’t think that the ‘Big White Duel’ was the best series of the year. Arguably the 3rd best but TVB making it sound like it was the best series in recent years with big anticipation of a sequel is laughable. Plus Roger was at least on par with Kenneth in acting level in the series but kenneth wins Best Actor with Roger nowhere to be seen in the race is also a joke. People should understand that companies dishing out awards to their own employees are not legitimately credible achievements…
@jimmyszeto Roger has won Best Actor a few times. Besides, he is not TVB’s employee anymore, so he no chance of winning at all.
@annebee
That’s what I mean. The award isn’t a ‘won’ award based on merit. It is given by the bosses to whoever they feel they want to give it to. A veteran or support actor can give the most amazing performance but may end up not even slightly considered…
@annebee it depends on the situation they are facing… Kara Wai won best actress and she not under TVB, but I do agree Roger won already a few times so he totally got ignored for that reason.
@jimmyszeto “ People should understand that companies dishing out awards to their own employees are not legitimately credible achievements…”
Amen to this! 🙂
@llwy12
Wins best actor award then signs a 7 year contract.Definitely Nothing fishy going on at all there haha. I don’t think anyone has signed such a long contract since the 5 tiger days and they were all young too. Signing such a long contract at Kenneth’s age tying himself to the company is unheard of these days….
@jimmyszeto lol…..But you think KM has any market in the mainland? Where is he gonna go really? Just looking at the pic above, he’s just lacking confidence alone in a simple picture. Not sure if he can make it anywhere else besides the comfort zone of HK?
@wm2017
Only young heartthrobs have a market in the mainland as leads. Signing a 7 year contract seems ridiculous and lacking ambition. Could just sign for 3 years and re-evaluate from there. Now it means if Kenneth suddenly feels like he would like to venture into other productions, he won’t be allowed. Even a few of the young 5 tigers in the 80s after a prolific number of years refused to sign another lengthy contract and got frozen as a result. Just weird that someone in mid 40s would tie himself up. You don’t go from ‘not interested extending contract’ to ‘extending contract for 7 years’. That is an extreme change of heart. Probably because he was promised to be given something shiny, that looks like a trophy with a TVB sign on???
@jimmyszeto I know, it’s like WTH is a TVB award anyway? BS!! They even had to drag him on stage to get his award and he always act shocked/numb/do I deserve this kinda look. haha lol…I feel sympathy for him due to the JW scandal but I just never find him interesting to watch in any role he portrayed but that’s just me thou as I know most people seem to love him. True!! Just like how Korea likes noona/younger male pair ups and recently it seems some older women/younger men pair ups too in China. TVB – always older men/younger women pair ups. Sigh… Not sure who is more boring; actors themselves or TVB is just not catching up to any trends. To me, HK is KM’s comfort zone I doubt he will venture out anywhere even w or w/o the award. I came across Wayne Lai on a youtube clip and he was stressing how HK can’t be compared to the mainland which is true as their market is huge but he was also saying how they have many series and alot of them are trash but come on HK has alot of trashy series too no? Guess he didn’t notice cuz it’s all HK to him. Not that I am favoring C/series. haha lol… He is like another LOYAL as s***z actor that will never venture anywhere not far anyway if this WL did try before. They both seem like a 1st job & last job kinda dudes. haha lol…
@wm2017
Actors know their best work and Kenneth knows his best works were in ‘The Exorcist’s Meter and some slapstick small production comedies in the past he was good too’. He was probably gutted he lost the year he was in ‘The Exorcist’s Meter’ after being unlucky to come up against a splendid Vincent performance but knows the reason why he was given it this year.. Yeh I call those who stick to the comfort zone that we meet everyday in work ‘job for life’ candidates. Not because they are loyal but because they fear change and lack ambition. I don’t really understand that since testing yourself against the best is the only way to prevent future regret….
Yay! So glad they are doing a sequel for this drama because it ended with a cliff hanger of whether Ali’s character was shot or not. So it’s great that they are going to continue the story so we can see what will happen. Hopefully the sequel will be just as good as the original which was definitely one of the best drama of the year.
I must be the only one that did not like the series. I felt like they focused WAY too much on the healthcare reform and the politics of it and didn’t have enough character development. The series also spent a lot of minutes in the technical department highlighting the surgeries and whatnot. Don’t get me wrong, I like those aspects too but this series failed to connect me to the characters and their emotions for each other. I also feel like this wasn’t Kenneth’s best performance as his character was too stoic. Almost like his real blah self. I enjoyed his character in that Taxi series a lot more as his acting shows more versatility there. Just my 2 cents. Glad to see Ali back in this series. Really wish she could be in more dramas again. Of the new era of leading actresses, she is my favorite one to watch these days.
It seems like every drama that comes out there will be a sequel?
