Linda Chung and Philip Ng’s 5 Year Relationship Over?
Since filming Love All Around <十分爱> in 2007, Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) has been romantically rumored with martial arts star, Philip Ng (伍允龍). In January, the pair’s old dating photos at a karaoke bar circulated widely online. According to an anonymous source, Linda and Philip may have broken up recently, with Linda asking to end the 5-year relationship!
As per his typical response when asked about Linda, Philip responded, “It is not convenient for me to respond.”
Linda’s decision to return to Canada for a short rest was now speculated as to whether she was in fact attempting to heal her love wounds.
However, just three weeks ago, Sina.com had reported that Linda was in good spirits at a charity ball. She even responded in good humor when asked about rumored flame, Philip Ng. When asked whether she wished her significant other to possess good martial arts skills such as Philip, Linda had responded, “That’s a good idea, so he can protect me. However, I am still looking for Mr. Right. Thank you for your concern. My relations with him are very good. As to further development, I wish to preserve my privacy. If we were to date stably, I will definitely reveal it!”
Linda normally maintained a low profile in her love life. With the sudden allegations that Linda and Philip have broken up, she was unable to be reached for comment.

I wonder if Linda’s relationship with Philip affected her career? If both have been dating since 2007, then it’s after MR. After MR, she didn’t star in a grand production til CBML. But, even Fala’s screen time was equivalent to hers. Currently, she’s still leading in low-budget series. She’s still promoted, but I’m sensing her status is not as secured.
2007 is HOG, MR is 2008.

Haha I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up marrying a gwailo, or someone mixed. Raymond’s English is decent enough but I doubt Linda will touch him with a 10-foot-pole after Mavis Gate.

I don’t think she may marry gweilo. Actually, Linda is quite chinese as a CBC. I think she prefers an oversea chinese as a boyfriend because for one thing, they are more able to converse in English, which makes them look more educated. No offense, but this is how the chinese society is (those that can speak english are educated while can’t are uneducated).
However, I don’t think she should choose a boyfriend just because he can converse in English. I understand that everyone has their preference when it comes to dating, but after all, we are all chinese. We should not look down on our own people just because they are not able to speak other people’s language. So what if Raymond can’t speak English fluently. He was not raised in Canada, nor he is a banana. He doesn’t need to feel ashamed of his english. Those chinese who can’t even speak their own language are the one who should feel ashamed of.
By the way, even Linda’s english is not really that great considering the fact that she was raised in Canada. She still has chinese accent when speaking in English, so does Philip.
Does Kennath Ma speak English as ‘good’ as Linda? Any videos? If he can’t then I don’t think Linda will like him since she is so EDUCATED!

Saw him on a documentary “kung fu quest” (RTHK) which is a copy of “fight quest” (Discovery). Apparently he is a practioner of “Hung kuen” and seems pretty good at it.
Are you okay with him as Linda’s boyfriend exoidus? He’s not as successful as Linda and that might give them a problem if their relationship went further than dating.

I disagree as well. I feel like Linda’s made the most of her roles to portray it to stand out. Twilight Investigation, Yes Sir, Sorry Sir,River of Wine, and Daddy Good Deeds are all pretty good examples I think of this. Even though her character in River of Wine wasn’t too meaty of a role, she still made it fairly likable. I’d really like to hear your comments on this Funn Lim
Michael I have already said why I like Linda in my review of L’Escargot. I know she has a whiny voice, she can be annoying but I find it almost impossible to accept that she is just being Linda when she is acting because all her roles is (if we are to believe the real Linda Chung) not how I see the real Linda. She plays against type and she has actually a varied resume.
Anyway let me repost what I wrote in L’escargot;
” I have a respect for Linda in the way she will take on potentially ugly characters and make them sympathetic. That is why I like her. No matter how bad the character is, she has ways to make the viewers sympathize her. However illogical or insanely unreasonable, there is some part of her performance that you will like and feel a tinge of pity for her.”
Maybe I will feel differently later but so far I find her interesting. Not that I will watch everything she is in.
Not only is Linda able to play “ugly” characters and make you feel sorry for her. She is also one of the few who is willing to play a character too much if any makeup (A watchdog’s tale).

Even if she was wearing make-up it couldn’t have been much. Most importantly she is not afraid to wear little make-up onscreen and still looked decent 🙂
TVB wouldn’t dare to risk their precious ratings with TY, Kate or Myolie wearing little make-up in fear of scaring viewers to death which could lead to potential law suits, LOL.
Of course Myolie, Kate and Tavia has to wear more makeup than Linda. Linda is 5 years younger.
but I think Tavia wears the thickest makeup among her, Myolie and Kate.
@exoidus: I think the base + BB cream + powder she used are quite thick to cover the dots in skin. But the eyes and lip makeup are less than others girls and she used nude color, giving out the effect that she dun look like wearing much makeup.
Flawness face skin in TVB should be Sharon Chan. Her skin is very good.
I agree. Her acting is ordinary and is beginning to follow a formula and too predictable. I’m afraid she will turn into Tavia Yeung or Steven Ma whose acting don’t show much difference from series to series.
I know many will disagree with me on this but Linda’s acting on the beginning of AJCL is fake and exaggerated to me as the MK girl. The natural one was Elaine Yiu who was more convincing. However Linda is more comfortable and likeable when she becomes a good girl later in the series and I agree that the still born scene was good.
I also feel the same fake and staged feeling from Linda’s acting at the beginning of her character in TGOL and again her acting is better and more comfortable when her character turns into a nice girl later in the series.
The correct english title for 十分爱 should be ‘Love Is Not All Around’.
But what has happened to Linda Chung? I thought she was so popular after her role as 常在心. These few years, she seems to die down. Even Fala and Kate have more dramas than her 🙁
I think Linda has a lot of dramas this year:
– L’escargot (aired)
– Daddy Good Deeds (airing)
– House of Harmony & Vengence (airing soon)
– Dangerous Protection (may possibly air this year)
Linda has a lot of dramas but just that they’re low budget and her characters don’t really stand out. Not generating enough buzz except for Miss Koo but that was so long ago and ppl have moved on.
Fala’s not filming much this year – needs time to recover from her sickness:
only got Queens (aired) and TITS2 (which might possibly air in 2013)
Kate had a lot last year. 4-5 series aired in 2011.
There is a fact in Txb recently that low budget series often has high rating and vice versa. So being in low budget series isn’t really an disadvantage.
L’Escargot was not a small series. It has quite a number of first line cast.
Fala don’t have much drama but her relationship with her wealthy husband or boyfriend sells.
Linda’s popularity peaked when she’s rumoured with Raymond. After the rumour ends, she slowly fades away and come up once a while when something like Miss Koo comes along.
that karaoke picture was from years ago. i’m pretty sure they dated before just not sure if they’re still broken up or not. there’s no basis for this breakup rumor though.

Dunno what Philip Ng is like – his not really a big superstar. But he hangs around Andy On, Jennifer Tse, Nic Tse group…. asians bought up overseas like all of them including Linda herself. I wonder if she’s close to the rest of the group?

5 years in a relationship is still long in showbiz. I think this adds to her image as a good girl.
Maybe this rumour is to stop the press from investigating Linda and Philip. Linda might want to focus on her career and wait till the right moment to come out.
She could be taking examples from Myolie. Myolie make sure that her career reaches a triumphant point and win Best Actress before acknowledging her relationship. Some actresses don’t want their open relationship to ruin their careers because an actress life cycle is not long.
Myolie was hell bent on hiding her relationship just to protect her career. It’s not wrong if Linda is doing this too. Women are expected to be career oriented too nowadays 🙂
But everyone already knew of Myolie and Bosco relationship even she didn’t publicity announce it..

It was Bosco who did not try to hide the fact that he was dating Myolie, dropping hints that he would cook for her, met her family, visited her home, etc. As Bosco continued to make these statements, it was obvious they were more than friends, as keeping such close contact required a lot of effort given that everyone was busy filming different projects.
I like the fact that Bosco never tried to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes and lie about his good feelings towards Myolie. I do hope that they get married one day and make little babies hehe.
Because Boscolie dun keep their mouth totally shut on the relationship. They kept it half open, half secret.

Philip Ng is little reknown as an actor but quite respected in the martial arts community. He owns and teaches a martial arts school in Chicago which specializes in Wing Chun and Choy Lay Fut. I thought he was pretty good looking in Kung Fu Quest.

Not sure, but I think his dad runs the school when is away. I feel bad that sometimes the press makes him out to seem Nic Tse and Linda Chung groupie.
I don’t know him personally, but I am from Chicago so I knew about his martial arts exploits before the tabloid ones.
I always enjoy n love watching Linda’s drama. Linda should date with some1 betta than this guy Phillip.
How do you know Phillip is not any good? Just b/c he’s not famous in the entertainment business doesn’t mean he’s not successful in other areas. He could be the most generous and respectful guy Linda has met.
My impression of him is that he actually looks like a decent guy. He seems very respectful and doesn’t get involved with the media and his relationship with Linda. I think they look matching, and much better than the guy who two-timed her.
I dunno about Raymond and Linda though, because she never seemed comfortable talking about him to me.

Linda looks cute in the photo above. She looked very happy. I don’t think it matter if the man is handsome or if she is considered more “successful” than he is. As long as he makes her happy, it’s all good. Besides “success” in the entertainment circle is largely dependent on luck.
Same. I think it’s better this way for her, than to be like Charmaine. I prefer a balance between social/career/love. Charmaine’s recent interviews gave me the impression that she put career above everything and now, she realises that love is important and putting that over career.
I mean, love can be hard to find (a true one, especially) and needs not to be actively sought but at least people should keep an open mind to it when it does arrive and take chances.
