Sammy Leung Prepares for Son’s Return from England Amid COVID-19 Outbreak
The coronavirus (COVID-19) has swept through the world in recent months, creating havoc and uncertainty in many countries. Now a global pandemic, many countries are initiating travel bans and advisories, as well as implementing executive orders to ban large gatherings in hopes of getting the rate of infection under control. In addition to China and South Korea, Europe is also seeing a large number of confirmed cases with the virus.
DJ/ actor Sammy Leung’s (森美) 17-year-old son, Lancelot Leung (梁曦樂), is currently studying abroad in England. Fearing for his son’s safety and afraid that travel bans may be extended to England soon, Sammy is making preparations to have Lancelot fly back to Hong Kong as soon as possible.
Sammy shared, “Currently, many schools in England are telling their study-abroad students to go back home. I am currently making preparations for it. Originally, my son had no plans to return to Hong Kong even during Easter break. However, because of the critical situation in Europe right now, Hong Kong may be a safer place.”
Stressed about the difficulties of traveling lately, Sammy expressed, “A lot of my friends in Hong Kong are having their children come back to Hong Kong, so the flights have been fully booked this week. I may have to plan for my son to return next week instead.”
Due to extreme stockpiling, Lancelot’s supply of face masks is running low. As a short-term solution, Sammy has mailed some of his face mask supplies to Lancelot in the meantime until travel preparations are finalized.
Earlier, Sammy’s parents were quarantined on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which was docked at Yokohama Port in Japan. After finally disembarking the ship, Sammy’s parents were further quarantined for another 14 days on land. Fortunately, they did not exhibit any symptoms and did not test positive for the virus and were eventually released.
Once Sammy successfully gets Lancelot home, the family can finally safely be together in Hong Kong during this critical time.

Haha Lancelot! Not seen anyone wear masks in England at all but he runs out of face masks? Then Sammy sends masks from HK to England when everyone has been send from England to China/HK. This is messed up! This father like many is panicking and confused…
Asian parents always naming their children unique and weird names. Lancelot…? Never heard of that one before. (I wonder if he gets bullied for that name).
Yeah, seems like HK is safest. UK here is in pieces. No face masks, no hand sanitiser, no tissues or pasta or essentials. Everyone is panic buying its atrocious. Europe was laughing then when Asian countries got it. Now look at us now. Fighting over a roll of tissue. Been to stores lately and still couldn’t get my hands on a packet of tissues!!!

Just ridiculous! Toilet rolls impossible to buy in any supermarket. It wouldn’t even be in my top 100 items in a pandemic. Seems like a stupid novelty idea…
@jimmyszeto right?! like if you’re out of toilet paper, just hop into the tub to clean yourself, which is literally right next to the toilet

@jimmyszeto Same thing here in California…and it’s not just toilet paper…any type of paper hygiene products (toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, cleaning wipes, etc) is impossible to find anywhere. Also no hand soap, hand sanitizer, diapers, baby wipes, etc…oh and don’t get me started on the food…walking into supermarkets where more than half the shelves are empty, it’s surreal…finally found a store today that had white rice, so snatched up a bag…it’s ridiculous the hoops we have to jump through just to buy basic necessities….
@llwy12 If you don’t need the hygiene products right away, you can order them from Amazon. Some items are on back order. Also Costco will deliver your orders in 2 to 3 days if you order online. Of course, regional warehouses’ stock may differ though. In our area, people have been buying up meat quickly and there were no meat deliveries from suppliers for 2 to 3 days. We set up a local Wechat group and people have been sending out alerts when meat or certain items are back in stock to help make it easier for neighbors as to when to go shopping.
@jayne Tried both of those and no luck. We’re doing something similar with our friends and neighbors — alerting each other of when things get restocked or sometimes just buying it for each other and leaving the stuff at their doors. It’s crazy…though with that said, I’m just grateful that I work in one of the essential industries so at least I still have a job…seeing friends and relatives around me lose their livelihoods has been heartbreaking…
@llwy12 Many people have lost their jobs because their income requires their physical presence to do the work. I’m very worried about the economy and with businesses shuttering for weeks, and possibly months if it takes that long to fight the virus, what it means for millions who will be without work.
I’m glad to hear that you and your friends are helping each other by buying things for each other. I started sanitizing the food packages I bought since I read that the virus can remain on plastic for hours. Not all staff at the local Trader Joe’s wear gloves. I don’t know why people are still taking chances at this time.

Yea…I’ve been reading up on all that too. I read that the best thing to do is throw out the packaging as soon as possible and sanitize your hands right after.
Steel/metal is the worst, as the virus can live on that for days. One thing I’ve been reminding people of is gas stations…the recommendation is to wrap a tissue around the pump handle when you pick it up and also before you get in your car, sanitize your hands thoroughly. I think they did a study somewhere and found that people were getting the virus from gas station pump because of the steel and also so many different people touch it (and of course gas station doesn’t sanitize that).

Stock piling which is rather selfish because so this causes many to go without the everyday items and produce. I can’t even get my parents to stop doing this…
@jimmyszeto Stockpiling is one thing…stockpiling and then trying to shamelessly sell the products for more than they’re worth is the behavior that’s the most abhorrent…like those brothers in Tennessee who stockpiled 17k+ bottles of hand sanitizer and then tried to sell them on Amazon for 100x the price…and when they were called out and Amazon banned them, they ran around complaining that they have no place to sell the products (and claiming that “big bad Amazon” did them wrong)…but what made my blood boil the most was when they did an interview with the media and had the audacity to claim they weren’t price gouging, they were merely factoring in shipping costs…what a bunch of bastards…

I totally agree and stockpiling and hoarding are already bad enough but to rip others off for your own benefit is truly bad, especially during this time when people need to help each other out. But sadly people are using this an opportunity to cash in. How shameful is that?

I agree and why is everyone fighting over toilet paper? I live in a city with little people and people are stockpiling and all but no one is fighting over anything. They set limits on how many you can buy too.
Lancelot is probably lying that he has been wearing face masks and Sammy believes him. The culture is different here! We don’t wear masks unless ill or at least seriously threatened…
@jimmyszeto that may change with the developing coronavirus situation. In New York area, more Americans are starting to wear face masks and gloves when they go out to grocery shop. It just makes sense with how contagious the virus is.

Did you know face masks do not really help or do much? They are more a psychological security blanket as you can get infected through the masks and in your eyes. Masks are good for people who are sick so they do not give it to other people. They also prevent you from touching your face if you got the virus on your hands. But other than that, they do not do much more.
