Katy Kung Temporarily Closes Restaurant in Malaysia
Having invested in a hotpot restaurant in Malaysia, actress Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) has no option but to temporarily close the place due to COVID-19.
In the entertainment industry for 11 years, Katy recently found success in The Dripping Sauce <大醬園> and received a popularity boost. Besides her career as an actress, Katy invested a seven-figure sum with a friend to open a hotpot restaurant in Malaysia.
After becoming a business owner, Katy has learned a lot from this new experience. She expressed, “My real identity is actually the chef, accounting and marketing departments, and the reservation and purchasing departments. This has been a learning opportunity for me, and I feel like I’m improving every day. I want to continue working hard. I hope everyone will do the same.”
Having zero knowledge about the industry prior to opening her own restaurant, Katy revealed one of her reasons behind this venture. “There wasn’t an authentic hotpot place there. My friend already owns a hotpot restaurant, so we thought we’d bring the real Hong Kong experience to Malaysia. Our main selling point is our MSG-free soup base. The chef and I both talked and researched about hand-wrapped dumplings and the fillings. I will teach them how to make it as well.”
Despite all her hard work and efforts, Katy revealed that business operations are currently halted due to the virus outbreak. Still feeling optimistic despite the restaurant’s closure, Katy will continue to think of new ways to improve her restaurant when it’s ready to open again. Katy is currently busy thinking of new products and dishes to add to the menu.
