[Beauty] Grace Chan Already Considered Starting a Skincare Company Two Years Ago
Many people consider Grace Chan (陳凱琳) to be one of the most beautiful Miss Hong Kong winners in the past ten years. It seems fitting that the 28 year old recently co-founded her own skincare company, in which Grace put a lot of thought into the product development process.
Over the years, many beauty brands have reached out to Grace to be their brand ambassador. Instead, Grace decided to launch her own skincare brand, Snow Queen. Her first product is box of makeup remover cotton pads retailing at a very affordable price of $24 HKD. She also has plans to develop a skincare product line.
In 2018, Grace and her friend had wanted to start their own company, and they brainstormed many different ideas. One of their friends suggested makeup remover cotton pads, and they were immediately were sold. Grace explained, “Every girl’s first step in skincare is to remove their makeup. I feel that no matter how well you take care of your skin, if your makeup is not removed thoroughly, your skin will still suffer. It is fitting that my first product is also the first step in everyone’s skincare regimen. Many of the cotton pads found on the market are not suited for the face shape of Hong Kong girls. Sometimes, the quality is not good and it ends up scratching your skin. If it is too soft, it leaves cotton fibers all over your face.”
In 2019, Grace and her partner officially started looking for a manufacturer to produce their product. Deciding to use Japanese raw materials, Grace flew to Taiwan to inspect the manufacturing site and observe the production process before deciding to work with the company. They developed a folded cotton pad with a unique size of 7.5 by 7.5 centimeters that they found most suitable for the faces of Hong Kong girls. The cotton also has a unique fiber that allows it to be simultaneously stretchy, while tough with the ability to absorb lots of moisture. It can also be used for many other purposes.
Shares Skincare Routine
Grace often has to put on heavy makeup for her work engagements, so she will go bare faced to allow her skin to rest on her days off. “My friends all know that I am too lazy to put on makeup. I usually joke that they wouldn’t want to see my true face at home.”
In middle school, Grace was very vain and started learning how to apply makeup. Looking back, she realizes that her techniques were horrible, and her makeup made her look even older than she is now!
Sharing her makeup removal routine, Grace said it is very simple. She will first use an oil makeup remover, rinse with water, and then use a milk-based product. Her skin is dry, so she will often use sheet face masks. “I like to place them in the fridge. When I use them, the cooling effect will make my face less puffy and help me relax.”
Grace believes that her skin was in its prime while she was pregnant. “I’ve heard many different things. Some people say their skin was horrible; some say it was great. I was lucky that my skin was in its best condition while I was pregnant. I believe it is because I was able to get enough rest. As long as you sleep and eat well, your skin will naturally follow.”
