Michael Lai Suffered Insomnia After Divorce with Gillian Chung
According to Taiwanese media, Michael Lai (賴弘國) had suffered from severe insomnia after his divorce with Gillian Chung (鍾欣潼). Already his second divorce, the young doctor tearfully confided to his friend that he would never marry again.
The couple officially separated in March 2020, after 14 months of marriage. According to Michael, it was Gillian who had requested for a divorce. He said it was because she couldn’t love him enough.
Sources say that their marriage had been in the rocks since September. The combination of having to maintain long distance and bearing the stresses of work had negatively impacted their relationship. Michael was struggling to collect the finances to open up his own private clinic, and in doing so he failed to find a balance between work and marriage. Suffering from insomnia as a result, he had to rely on sleeping pills. He lost over 10 kg (22 lbs) in a matter of weeks.
It wasn’t until a few months later in February, when Gillian finally reached out to him about a divorce, when Michael hit his lowest point. He hid himself in his room for days, crying. His close friend was so worried about him that he stayed with him for three days, and tried to help him out of his depression. Michael still relied on sleeping pills to fall asleep after the divorce.
His friend said Michael had tried to be a good husband for Gillian despite feeling pressure at work. While trying to raise money for his private clinic, he was also saving a lot of money for Gillian. His friend expressed that Michael didn’t even buy anything for himself the year he married her.

i wonder who has been leaking this type of news since eeg is trying to salvage gillian’s image like said. either this dude’s got good connections or the media dislike eeg or gillian.
@m0m0 the Taiwanese media probably didn’t care for Gillian so the reports continue. lol now we’re getting accounts from both their friends, let’s see what EEG is going to do about it. Gil sounds so like she’s obsessed with money, most reports have been about how she’s spending endlessly.

Many celebrities do join the circle hoping to make big bucks so it is not just her. However, she seems more obsessed with money than the average celebrity. Maybe she should have married a sugar daddy so she can spend freely and endlessly.
Gag order is on the ex-husband only. While Gillian’s friends are mostly celebs like herself and may tactfully decline to comment, Michael’s friends are nobodies who can say anything they want as no one really knows who they are.
The reason why she got married probably because the egg boss gave her BIG presents for her wedding. A greedy person like her can get married for that then divorce since she didn’t have to pay for her wedding or anything throughout the marriage period

Hm… now I truly wonder if that was why she got married in the first place? Was it for those big gifts? But wouldn’t she have to return them since she is divorced now?
I also got to say that it seems that Gillian did not fork out a cent to him. There were reports saying she gave him money to start a clinic which I doubt even more now as it seems like he is trying to save money to do that himself. She is so greedy and selfish if these reports are true.

I see it as for herself. IF his is a huge chain – it’s a different ball game than just a clinic.
They deserve each other. This dude sounds as immature and shallow as her. He sounds quite like a Drama King type too.
@nomad822 I think you hit the nail with the whole investment part. Gillian probably wanted to invest for him to open another clinic for her own sake as in saving her face. Before Michael married Gillian, he’s already a co-owner of a clinic which imo is a very successful accomplishment for your typically working individual. It’s so complicated though with trying to open a new clinic and also trying to chase Gillian at her filming sites too, Michael bite way more than he can chew with this marriage.
