Jay Chou Drops New Single “Mojito” Filmed in Cuba

Taiwanese pop king Jay Chou (周杰倫) has dropped his latest single “Mojito”, and it’s definitely one of the more uniquer songs on his catalogue.

“Mojito” is a Latin pop-inspired song infused with beats infused with the Spanish guitar, percussion, and horns. The song was written before Jay traveled to Havana, Cuba. The lyrics were helmed by his good friend Alang Huang (黃俊郎), who based its romantic lyrics on the mojito drink, a Cuban cocktail.

“I think Alang was drunk when he wrote the lyrics,” Jay joked.

Filmed on location in Havana, Cuba, the music video features Jay and his team of back-up dancers performing Salsa beside a live band. They wrote bright color-dyed dress shirts and rode through the city in colorful vintage cars.

“I’ve always wanted to go to Cuba,” said Jay. “They have so many different styles of antique cars, and everyone knows I love vintage. That’s why went to Cuba to film the MV.”

Jay also brought along his good friend Alan Ke (柯有倫) for the music video. It was Alan who had arranged a Cuban band to perform for Jay in the music video, surprising even Jay. The duo created music with the band as Jay danced with a maraca and Alan played with a guiro.

Jay added, “I currently don’t have plans to release another single after this one. If I am going to release something new, it’s going to be an album!”
