Gallen Lo Makes Special Appearance in “White War” Starring Bosco Wong and Ron Ng

Produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures, the Chinese-Hong Kong co-production television drama series White War <戰毒> premiered on Hong Kong’s ViuTV on July 9, 2020. It stars Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), Ron Ng (吳卓羲), and Kenny Kwan (關智斌) as three narcotics police officers who find that they must choose between brotherhood and their conscience to prevent a drug lord from rising in power.

It features a special guest appearance by three-time TV King Gallen Lo (羅嘉良), who plays the drug lord Chan Kin. Gallen spent six days shooting with Ron and Bosco.

“It was a very fun six days,” said Gallen. “Frankly, I wanted more. It’s a lot more versatile to play a villain, but I personally prefer playing characters who are morally ambiguous!”

Though both former TVB actors—and both had worked for the station at around the same time—White War is Gallen and Bosco’s first collaboration. Despite being from different generations, Gallen and Bosco had a blast working together. There were no generational gaps whatsoever.

Gallen said he’s used to working with the younger generation. “Golden Faith <流金歲月> was my first drama with Ron. I remember going to Thailand together and having a lot of fun. This time, Bosco said he’ll treat me a dinner at his restaurant in Hong Kong.”

White War also stars Chrissie Chau (周秀娜) and Karena Ng (吳千語).

  1. Ok I binged this drama in a week and can I say despite some plot holes and minor inconsistencies, it was very enjoyable and good for a drama marathon. Get through the first episode and it’s smooth sailing.
Karena Ng was the only let down in the cast, everyone else did so good. It is Ron’s best performance in a cop role. Don’t understand why mainland loved Flying Tiger but rated this so poorly.

    1. @bubbles23 agree with you that this was Ron’s best acting in a cop role ever. Bosco was great as always and really enjoyed Chrissie.

I didn’t know if I was going to like this show in the beginning but I found myself looking forward to it each week and the ending wasn’t bad. Normally these shows have the worst endings.

    2. @bubbles23 comment got cut off

Karena was not great in the beginning but was tolerable and wasn’t getting in the way of the plot. However later on after she found out Bosco was a UC she got all weird and stalker-y. And then somehow ended up with Kenny’s character which was SO awkward and unnatural. Yeah nope.

      1. @tt23 yeah the whole Karena-Bosco arc was the annoying part since it dragged out too long too hopeful. Her ending up with Kenny is predictable though. Character development for Kenny could’ve been better. Like he still didn’t have a job at the end :S both were probably the weakest actors in the whole show, but overall still better than Flying Tiger that was all over the place.

  2. I watched the show from beginning to end and thought the series was mediocre. Surprisingly, this series is not produced by TVB nor Shaw Brothers but feels like a SB series from beginning to end. Pretty sad TBH.

Bosco and Ron act the same in every police and undercover cop drama. They don’t even care to bring a new dimension to their characters at all. Gallen brings his legendary acting onscreen once again. Chrissie Chau is alright. Karena Ng was probably the weakest link. The Kenny dude seems raw.

  3. This drama doesn’t looks like it’s from China I agree it’s more like from Shaw Brothers or tvb. I wonder if they have to translate Cantonese for that mainland actress and the drug guy who dyed his hair gray the one who’s jealous Of Bosco in the beginning is he from mainland because I don’t know who he is.

    1. @cutie777

It’s a China production by tencent pictures..

There’s a Cantonese version and a mandarin version.

It.s not a bad series, problem is crime drama fatigue,
Having just watched flying tiger 2, then following up with white war, is a bit too much..

Highlight for me is Gallen Lo and Chrissy chau

  4. Also I can’t seem to find the name of the songs in the show online, if anyone knows what they are called and by who, let me know!
