Devoted Andy Lau Fan Saves Virginity for 20 Years: “I Want to Have His Baby!”
While the star power of Andy Lau (刘德华) is undeniable, the extent of fans’ extremism is shocking. Despite Andy getting married and becoming a father, this did not stop fans from fantasizing about him in a delusional manner. Ao Yanhong (敖艳红), a devoted Andy Lau fan for 23 years, declared that she had attempted suicide on four occasions due to her intense love. She saved her virginity for Andy Lau, yearning to have his baby.
The meaning of idol obsession was redefined when the suicide of the father of Yang Li Juan (杨丽娟), an extreme Andy Lau fan, occurred in March 2007. Recently, another obsessive Andy Lau fan, 29-year-old Ao Yanhong in Gucheng, China came to the media’s attention. Yanhong’s life-long dream is to meet Andy Lau, and she continues to fantasize about him romantically each day.
Falling in Love at 6 Years Old
In 1988, Yanhong fell in love at first sight when she came across a movie poster of Andy in front of a movie theater. That night, she dreamed of Andy’s handsome face. She was only six years old. “Many of my private thoughts are written down in my diary for Andy Lau to read. In 1998, I understood more about Andy after seeing him on television. I fell deeply and unwaveringly in love with him then!”
Yanhong’s feelings for Andy only intensified over the years. She kept photos of Andy underneath her pillow, so that she can look at his face each night before going to sleep. Every day, she rereads her diary entries, which are dedicated to Andy. She lost sleep and appetite over Andy. Locking herself in her room, she did not wish to speak to anyone. She only wants to watch Andy’s dramas and movies and admire her photo collection of him.
Desperate to Meet Andy Lau
Yanhong put all her energies into fulfilling her dream of “how to meet Andy Lau.” Realizing that she is unable to afford travel expenses to Hong Kong, Yanhong decided to develop her own talent and become an artiste herself to increase the chances of meeting the superstar. “I set my heart on learning singing and dance skills. No matter how tough the training is, I will never give up.”
However, money is an obstacle. Her income only allowed her to pay for rent and living expenses. The remainder of her money is spent on fees for Internet access, which allows her to track Andy’s news and whereabouts closely. There is not much money left for music and dance classes.
Since middle school, Yanhong has been mailing countless fan letters to Andy. She never received a response back from him. She had run away from home several times, in search of Andy. Each night, she cried in bed thinking about Andy Lau, her life-long dream.
Attempted Suicide Four Times
Due to her intense love for Andy, Yanhong attempted suicide on four occasions. In 2005, Yanhong learned that Andy Lau was romantically involved with an actress. Depressed, she drank more than 1 kg of wine and swallowed 12 sleeping pills. Although her heart was bent on killing herself, she escaped death.
In 2008, rumors circulated that Andy had gotten married to Malaysian heiress, Carol Chu. Yanhong stopped fantasizing that Andy will be her husband. But she did not give up her love dreams. Yanhong said, “I still wish that he can be my man, as a lover or friend. Since I love him, I do not want to hurt him or his family.”
Although Andy prefers to keep his personal life private, the 50-year-old star recently acknowledged the birth of his daughter on May 9. Many fans offered their congratulations to Andy. Yanhong remained calm. “I know that he always wanted to have a son. Girls are fine, but I want to also have his baby. I do not know if he is willing or not. Carol Chu is very fortunate; I admire her.”
Saving Virginity for Andy Lau
Yanhong is a still a virgin. She is willing to only give her first time to her idol, Andy Lau, and does not mind waiting another 20 or 40 years. She did not have room in her heart for another man, refusing to even have basic contact with the opposite gender.
Yanhong’s fanaticism towards Andy is well known, since she had once declared her love for him on a Mainland Chinese variety program. In her hometown of Gucheng, she is treated like an outcast, in which pedestrians often point at her and give her odd looks. Despite this, Yanhong said she will always love Andy Lau.
Due to Yanhong declaring her devotion towards Andy unabashedly, this has resulted in a heated public backlash, criticizing her for her extremism. She did not mind, hoping that the controversy would lead to greater media coverage. “I hope that my story will eventually spread to Andy’s ears. Perhaps it will only take a little more to do so.”
“I only love Andy Lau. I will retain my chastity for him. I hope to meet him, to become his woman one time,” Ao Yanhong confessed her heart’s strongest desire. “Even if he does not accept me, I will wait for him forever.”

1. She is already 29, not young anymore. She dun have a job or any life to live other than obsession with Andy? In case she really dun have anything else than the obsession, where are all of her money? Going to HK isn’t this expensive. She wanna learn dancing? Internet! If wanna save money, she can learn from Internet. With basic knowledge of dancing, the tutorials are very easy to follow.
2. She is in China and he went to China many times. If she dun have money to go to HK, why just dun go to some China function of Andy to see him? It’s 2012 now and internet has every info that you need. Being a fan of Andy, she’ll know about his schedule. Just move and she can meet him.

Just browse her weibo. For months,she had been @ many, many media sources begging them to help her become a “ming xing” (not just an artistic but a celebrity artist) and to help her meet Andy so that she could sleep with him and offer him her virginity. I guess like you said, Andy’s name sells news, an opportunistic reporter finally interviewed her.
I bet her tactic of attracting media attention will motivate other such opportunistic/crazy fans of other artists to do the same, and what’s more, tabloids will oblige them. So better watch out for a rush of such kind of fans publicly voicing their obsessive love for their idols. I shudder for their idols.

I don’t think age is what is stopping her since I believe that it is still possible to get famous at any age. Look at Wayne Lai, Kevin Cheng and many others for example. They struggled for many years before they got popular and famous.

I can’t believe that some people can be so crazy… Doesn’t she have more of a life or still fantasizing to the point that it is hopeless?? I think it is normal to have a crush on celebs and all at some point in our lives,BUT it is just a stage that we need and should grow out of. Whoever doesn’t, honestly has problems. I have seen a number of cases where someone that doesn’t want to enter the circle, just gets to while others can try all they can and still not get it. Timing, opportunity,luck,fate,etc.. whatever you call it is what gets a number of people in.It is also true that those who try and want to do enter as well… You also don’t need to be rich but in some cases you do. However, with this girl, I highly doubt that she can make it in since her motivation for wanting to enter the circle are not realistic or healthy enough which also may be one of the main reasons for her failure.

I don’t think so. Being an actor takes ambition, dedication and it is never a twist of fate. You work hard for it, you pretend for it, you do things to stay in the profession. Maybe the first step may be an accident for some, perhaps as children but for adults, you will have to walk into an audition to win a role. It is not like modelling where a scout spots you and that’s it. It is a profession where deliberate action is the key, never fate, luck. To be famous fast, now that is fate, luck, etc but to maintain that fame, is again a lot of hard work.
I know that of course becoming anything takes a lot of work,dedication,etc… However, at times it is fate which I think involves timing, connections,luck, etc.. Of course that is not all it takes but it is definitely a part of it. Becoming successful in anything takes a combination of things, especially in an unstable e circle. Relying on luck or whatever can only get you so far, therefore, the rest of it is up to how hard we work and what we do. But opportunities and all still timing and luck in my opinion.
There should be a distinction to being an actor versus being a famous actor. Not all famous actors are good and not all good actors are famous.
With that being said, the ones that are famous and good will require a combination of hard work and luck.
