Sharon Chan Dropped from “Flying Tiger 3”

The actress had allegedly posted politically-sensitive material on her social media.

Originally cast in Shaw Brothers’ Flying Tiger 3 <飛虎3之壯志英雄>, Sharon Chan (陳敏之) has been dropped from the series at the eleventh hour. Alice Chan (陳煒) is slated to replace Sharon as the wife of Eddie Cheung’s (張兆輝) SDU officer character in the third season of the popular web drama.

What Prompted the Move…?

Recently, Chinese netizens pointed out that Sharon had previously shared a politically-sensitive photo on her Instagram Stories, which led them to brand her as a “yellow ribbon” and triggered a furor online. Some netizens tagged Sharon’s Weibo account requesting for an explanation and apology from her, while others claimed to have had their comments deleted and blacklisted by the actress.

As the successful Flying Tiger franchise is a partnership between Shaw Brothers and Chinese streaming platform Youku, it is suspected that Sharon was dropped from the series to prevent a potential backlash from Mainland Chinese viewers.

Co-stars Decline to Comment

When contacted about the matter, Eddie declined to comment, while Alice replied that she accepted the job according to company arrangements, and was unsure of the details.

Previously appearing at the blessing ceremony for Flying Tiger 3 in July along with the rest of the cast, Sharon replied to media queries, “I didn’t expect the [local] COVID-19 situation to change so quickly. I decided to pull out [from filming] after discussions with the company out of safety concerns and considerations for my son, and would really want to thank their understanding. As for other matters, I will not make further responses.”

TVB executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲) acknowledged that Sharon had informed the station about her concerns before filming for the drama officially began, and the company has accepted her decision to pull out.

Besides Michael Miu (苗僑偉), Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) and Ron Ng (吳卓羲) who starred in the first two installments, the cast of Flying Tigers 3 will also include Roger Kwok (郭晉安), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Elaine Yiu (姚子羚), Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), and Jeannie Chan (陳瀅).

  1. I swear I stared at the picture posted and I could not figure out what’s so political about it. Religious, definitely. Political?

I think it’s best that Chinese ban IG altogether or artiste should stop posting anything except for photos of themselves

  2. Not sure what was political about Sharon’s post but I think I prefer Alice for the role. Also don’t know why they keep pushing out Flying Tigers, it used to have a variety of actors now it’s just become Michael Miu, Bosco Wong and Ron Ng + other TVB actors

  3. ….. what post???

I like both of them so I don’t mind either one. Hopefully it is about her kids versus a post she made.

    1. @anon looking at the way the Chinese are scolding these alleged traitors, I bet they are introverts/antisocial beings in life

  4. I actually prefer Alice and Eddie to be a couple and they more on par on the acting level. Eddie and Sharon did a series together before and I thought they looked boring together. Looking forward to this pairing.

  5. Since the mods didn’t add the picture Sharon Chan posted in her Instagram, you can see it at the link below.

As someone pointed out above, it is more religious than political in nature. Though my guess is those stupid netizens might have been triggered because it showed a girl wearing black T-shirt and black gloves in Jesus’ embrace. The guy behind the girl is also dressed in a similar fashion. The netizens could have equated the picture with Sharon empathizing with the protestors.

    1. @rika I was curious enough to ask. It’s likely cos they have yellow helmet on them. In one of their first riots (Umbrella revolution), folks for democracy had on them yellow ribbons while those pro government had on them blue ribbons. Since then, they’re labelled yellow and blue gang. Now I wonder if they ban Pikachu in Hong Kong. He is bright yellow! LOL

      1. @rika I didn’t know they banned Pooh! When was that and cos it’s yellow? Goodness, I’m going to Guess Disney will change Winnie to Blue in HK/China to appease these folks. LOL

      2. @rika I heard about the linking, I thought it’s innocent comparison. didn’t know it was such a humiliation that they banned it!

Exactly like emperors of the old dynasties

  6. I mean isn’t IG banned in China? Why are these anti democracy people using something of the “western world” *gasps.
Maybe it’s for the best Sharon isn’t in it. She and Eddie don’t look like a couple. I wished they had less tvb people in it honestly.

    1. @bubbles23 didn’t know IG is banned. Guess all still find ways to (VPN?) to get around it. I went Baidu , trying to find traces of reason in the pool of scoldings and i found none. I will not be surprised if none exists.

      1. @rika I truly do not understand their mentality, they want to know what going on outside their world yet cry foul when they see what they don’t want to know.
