“Fatal Visit” Starring Sammi Cheng, Charlene Choi Premieres September 25
After multiple postponements due to the coronavirus outbreak, Hong Kong thriller Fatal Visit <聖荷西謀殺案> is finally ready for its big cinematic premiere.
Directed by Calvin Poon (潘源良), and adapted into a screenplay by Philip Yung (翁子光), Fatal Visit is based on the play Murder in San Jose written by playwright Candace Chong (莊梅岩). It stars Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), and Tong Dawei (佟大為) in the lead, whose lives are forever intertwined from a single murder case.
For their roles, Sammi was nominated Best Actress and Charlene was nominated Best Supporting Actress at the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards, which were held online in May 2020.
“Cinemas reopened and closed, reopened and close again…. and each time, we were left racing for time,” wrote director Calvin Poon, in response to his film’s September 25 opening. “Coincidentally, the unexpected is the theme of Fatal Visit. I feel that the characters in this film, wonderfully personified by the actors, really fits the current social and emotional climate.”
“From filming to the premiere, it’s been three years,” said Charlene. “Now that we’ve been cooped up at home for a few months, I do think it’s finally time to enjoy this film in the cinemas. It’s been a long time!”
