“Legal Mavericks 2” to Air as TVB Anniversary Drama?
TVB has been reshuffling its drama lineup in order to coordinate simultaneous broadcasting schedules in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Waiting for China’s broadcasting authorities to clear Legal Mavericks 2 <踩過界II>, the legal drama may be able to air at the end of this year in the highly-coveted TVB Anniversary Awards timeframe.
After Al Cappuccino‘s <反黑路人甲> success, the beloved pairing of Vincent Wong (王浩信) and Owen Cheung (張振朗) will return in Legal Mavericks. Picking up from where the first series ended, the sequel will feature more compelling legal cases. The drama also stars Kelly Cheung (張曦雯), Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), and Paul Chun (秦沛).
Filmed at the height of COVID-19 this spring was a challenge forcing the production crew to be flexible. Plans to film in Myanmar were dropped due to travel restrictions and safety concerns. In addition, the filming schedule had to make some adjustments after the main cast fell sick for a few days.
Completed filming in May, Legal Mavericks 2 is currently in post-production and was originally intended to be released in 2021. However, it may see a release this winter if it clears China’s broadcasting authorities soon.
TVB has already started making preparations for the sequel’s broadcast by re-airing Legal Mavericks in the late night time slot on September 29 for Hong Kong viewers.
At the same time, the cast and crew are already dropping teasers about the upcoming drama. Producer Lam Chi Wah (林志華) posted behind-the-scene snippets on social media and asked fans, “The Legal Mavericks trio and their legal talent are working together to prepare for the future. Are you ready?” Owen was seen replying on the Lam Chi Wah post and similarly asked fans if they are ready for his return.
When asked if the drama will be this year’s Anniversary drama, Lam Chi Wah responded that an official premiere date has not been set yet. “If you ask me, of course I would like it. However, there are many things that are not finalized yet and many things are still changing.”

I think it was announced today –
Nov 9 for legal mavericks 2
Nov 16 for line walker 3
Someone let me know if these are not real dates. I hope it’s true! It will be a great way to end the year given that it’s been mediocre so far.
@tt23 Yes, those dates are correct. They definitely want to finish the year strong with these to anticipated sequels.
@scre I really don’t understand tvb…. They have a bunch of stuff filmed a year ago that they won’t release and rather air a Chinese drama and then goes ahead to air that drama filmed this year… They are really stacking up the Best Actor noms but I think the female side is rather lacking… I can only see Mandy winning it… Can’t imagine Sam or Kelly getting nominated.
I am looking forward to this series.
With this picture, did they also copy the Ali/Vincent trolley car scene? If so, that’s very annoying.
@potatochip they likely did with this and definitely so with the dance in the rain.
I said this before, I don’t understand the scriptwriter. Audiences will compare this lady to Never (Be it fan or no fan of Ali). With scenes copied from LM1, it will be worse. It is like sabotaging this gal in my opinion.
@conan2209 I guess they want to keep that “magic” for the sequel which is honestly such a dumb move. It’s a different character and storyline, they should have just focused on developing that rather than living in the past.
You both are so right, Kelly will only be compared to Ali and it won’t be great not because she can’t act (sort of lol) but she isn’t Ali/Never. It just makes no sense
@tt23 TVB lives for China viewers only now.
There may be bias viewers who will sing praises of Kelly just to put Ali down…
i want Never~!!!!!!! LOL
