“Someday or One Day” and “Nowhere Man” Win Big at 55th Golden Bell Awards
Alice Ko and Jack Yao clinch acting wins.
Taiwan’s 55th Golden Bell Awards was held on September 26, with time travel romance Someday or One Day <想見你> and action drama Nowhere Man <罪夢者> bagging four prizes each to emerge as the biggest winners of the night.
Biggest Winners
Netflix crime narrative Nowhere Man <罪夢者> which starred Joseph Chang (張孝全) picked up four technical awards including Best Lighting and Best Cinematography in a television series, while hit drama Someday or One Day garnered four major prizes out of the six it had been nominated for, including Best Drama, Best Screenwriter and Best Innovative Program.
Jack Yao (姚淳耀) and Alice Ko (柯佳嬿) won the major acting awards for Best Actor and Best Actress for their performances in The Mirror <鏡子森林> and Someday or One Day respectively. Beating out contenders including fourth-time nominee Cheryl Yang (姚淳耀) and Tien Hsin (天心), Alice triumphed with her strong portrayal of two distinctly different personalities in the hit drama. This is also Alice’s second win for the award, which she first clinched in 2016 for Marry Me, Or Not? <必娶女人>. Having won the best variety program host for Stories in Taiwan <在台灣的故事> back in 2016, Jack proved his caliber in both hosting and acting with his acting nod this time round.
Mario Pu (馬力歐) and Janel Tsai (蔡淑臻) took home the awards for Best Supporting Actor and Actress for their roles in Island Nation <國際橋牌社> and Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner <噬罪者> respectively.
A special tribute segment, which honored Taiwanese artistes who passed away this year including Godfrey Gao (高以翔), Alien Huang (黃鴻升), and dancer Serena Liu (刘真), had many of the celebrities teary-eyed.
