Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu Kick up Some Office Romance in “Love Is Sweet”
The latest mainland Chinese workplace romance series, Love is Sweet <半是蜜糖半是伤>, only aired two days ago, but it has already made many hearts flutter. Viewers have taken a liking to the drama’s combination of a dominating boss-employee romance and the classic trope of childhood sweethearts to enemies to lovers. It boasts an attractive cast that includes Leo Luo Yunxi (罗云熙), Bai Lu (白鹿), Shane Xiao Yan (肖燕), Kido Gao Hanyu (高瀚宇), and Riley Wang (王以綸).
Love is Sweet tells the story of two childhood friends, Yuan Shuai (played by Yunxi) and Jiang Jun (played by Bai Lu), meeting again a decade later at top investment company MH. When the intelligent and independent Jiang Jun decides to fulfill her late father’s wishes of her joining MH, she unexpectedly encounters Yuan Shuai, who is working as one of the top executives at MH, on the day of her interview. Initially believing that he would help her out because they were once close, she was surprised to find that he is an incredibly controlling and infuriating boss who constantly picks on her. Yet, unbeknownst to Jiang Jun, Yuan Shuai actually has a crush on her since they were young. Despite declaring each other as rivals, he still remembers that she is allergic to tears and would always keep an eye on her to make sure she is safe. In these moments of both bickering and care, Yuan Shuai and Jiang Jun eventually find themselves unexpectedly falling for each other.
Yunxi Trades His Historical Costumes for Suits
Although it might appear that Yunxi is playing another typical boss who is cold and domineering, his performance is proving otherwise as his tsundere character design is very much dimensional and emotionally expressive. While switching between a strict boss and a loving boyfriend can be challenging, the actor shows strong adaptability by displaying both manly and sweet charms.
On top of his praise-worthy performance and natural chemistry with Bai Lu, Yunxi also made a refreshing impression on the audience with his return to the contemporary drama world after starring in several historical series consecutively. It is well-known that Yunxi looks graceful and charismatic in historical costumes, but fans were ecstatic to see that he also looks perfect in suits.

As much it’s an old trope, childhood friend, but it does make it quite believable, why and how they were friend and how they broke up/parted way in the past. I also like how the flashbacks is incorporated in the drama. Very refreshing and not at all A constant repeat of a few memories. It showcases a wide range of events that lead them to where they are while showing their relationship.
The music, vibe, lightings, everything feel like that of a good Korean family drama (still have the same good music, and stuff of the popular kdrama, but also a lot of soft humane moments that show the relationship bonds in a family). If you have seen wonderful days with Lee Seo Jin, you will know what I’m talking about hahaha xD.
The moments in this drama are so sweet, I can’t help but smile the whole time I’m watching! Very recommended!
