BLACKPINK Had Rivalry with Each Other as Trainees
Korean K-Pop group BLACKPINK– which includes Jennie, Lisa, Rose and Jisoo – is making waves in the world music scene. While many fans know of BLACKPINK’s songs, few know their sacrifices to get to the spotlight. Shedding light on their music journey, Netflix dropped a trailer for its new documentary BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky that will follow the group from their trainee days to becoming one of the world’s top stars.
In the early stages of their careers, Jennie, Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo lived together while training for their debut. It was stressful to be trainees as their label company was evaluating their progress and would eliminate any underperforming trainees. Though the members pushed through with their training, they also felt lonely when their trainee friends failed to make the cut.
Faced with fierce competition, Lisa recalled constantly competing with other trainees and even had a rivalry with Rose when they first met. With time, the girls bonded after going through many obstacles together and now they support each other like sisters.
Most Memorable Moment in Career
While BLACKPINK has scooped up many music awards, they reached a major milestone in their careers when they became the first K-Pop girl group to perform at Coachella in 2019. Since Coachella is one of the biggest music festivals in the world, the girls remember feeling intimidated to perform in front of 40,000 people yet they were awestruck by the audience’s energy.
Although Jisoo describes Coachella as “one of the most uncomfortable experiences in her life,” the girls did not let their anxiety get in the way of their professionalism and successfully gave one of their best performances.
BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky will be released on Netflix on October 14.
