A Mother’s Anxiety: Zoie Tam is Already Planning for Newborn Daughter’s Future
Zoie Tam‘s (譚凱琪) career was on a hot streak until she took a hiatus this year to get married and give birth. In February, the 39-year-old announced her marriage to boyfriend Enrico, whom she has dated for eight years. Their plans for an overseas wedding was ruined by the pandemic, forcing the couple to hold a low-key ceremony in Hong Kong instead. In June, the normally prolific actress confirmed her pregnancy and took a break from filming to rest. Excited but also very nervous about the arrival of her first baby, Zoie visited a feng shui master for guidance and even started researching schools.
Though viewers may have only noticed Zoie in recent years due to her work at TVB, she already made her debut 20 years ago as the protégé of successful Japanese music producer, Tetsuya Komuro. As a singer, Zoie released her first album Full of Love <全力愛> and relocated to Taiwan in an attempt to expand her market. Meeting mediocre results, she returned to Hong Kong in 2007 and joined Hong Kong Cable Television. In 2013, she entered TVB and was well liked by viewers due to her girl-next-door aura. Participating in many dramas including Over Run Over <EU超時任務>, My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人>, The Learning Curve of a Warlord <大帥哥>, and The Exorcist’s Meter 2.0 < 降魔的2.0>, Zoie’s career seemed unstoppable until she announced sudden wedding plans, which many suspected were due to a surprise pregnancy.
The months quickly rolled by, and the baby’s arrival date came. Half year ago, Zoie consulted with Aaron Kwok’s (郭富城) most trusted feng shui master to help pick an auspicious date for her Cesarean section, and prayed that her baby would be born in good health and grow up to be smart.
The preparation was worth the extra effort, and Zoie gave birth to a healthy six-pound baby girl on October 19. Relieved by the relatively comfortable labor process, Zoie said, “The nurses and doctors used all their strength to pull the baby out–it seemed like they were having a tougher time than me! Because I had a C-Section, half of my body was numb with anesthesia so I didn’t really feel anything. I am really thankful to everyone in the delivery room. When I heard my baby crying, I was very happy and emotional!”
Sharing that her baby looks more like Enrico, the couple did not decide on a name yet. “Enrico actually hopes that our daughter will look more like me!”
Other than naming their daughter, the couple is very well prepared in other aspects and their home is well stocked with baby supplies. As she has a tendency to worry over everything to prepare for the baby’s arrival, Zoie spent days and nights buying all sorts of baby items online–including three baby beds all with different functions.
According to a close friend, Zoie is already fretting over her newborn’s future education and has asked friends how her daughter can enter prestigious schools. She has also invested in a 10 million Hong Kong dollar education savings plan. Though parents in Hong Kong are known to put meticulous plans in place when raising children due to the competitive landscape, Zoie is already years ahead in her efforts in paving the path for her daughter’s educational success.
