“Legal Mavericks 2” to Feature Thought-Provoking Cases

Currently streaming on myTV Super, Legal Mavericks 2 <踩過界 II> will air on TVB on November 16. In continuation of the previous installment, Vincent Wong (王浩信), Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), and Owen Cheung (張振朗) will continue to fight for justice on behalf of vulnerable populations in society. Legal Mavericks 2 will feature even more thought-provoking cases to make viewers reflect deeply upon their surroundings and societal issues.

Though Ali Lee (李佳芯) was dropped in the sequel, Legal Mavericks 2 features many new characters played by Paul Chun (秦沛), Kelly Cheung (張曦雯), Gloria Tang (鄧佩儀), Tiffany Lau (劉穎鏇), Jessica Kan (簡淑兒), Lesley Chiang (姜麗文), Chun Wong (秦煌), and Candice Chiu (趙希洛).

Other than the strong cast, Producer Lam Chi Wah (林志華) promises that the script will move viewers, citing three cases that are a must-watch, “Unlike last time, the sequel will feature cases that are more realistic. We referenced actual cases, so they would resonate with the audience. We want each case to evoke deep emotions and make viewers reflect upon their own lives. Most are criminal cases and will focus on the concept of equality.”

Veteran artistes, Bowie Wu (胡楓) and Suet Nay (雪妮), were specifically invited to act in the series. “They will have a very sad and moving love story which will happen within a murder case. It is short and Suet Nay does not even have a line, but I want everyone to experience it through a small action or an expression in their eyes.”

The producer also recommends viewers to watch out for the murder case involving a fast food chain immigrant, “This case features Jason Piao (白彪), who plays a homeless character taking shelter in a fast food restaurant. His character really demonstrates the struggles of disadvantaged members of society.  We always talk about how having a full stomach is not enough–these people really require attention from society and care for their mental needs as well.”

The producer especially recommends the case featuring Alice Fung (馮素波) and Bob Cheung (張彥博). Though he did not disclose specific details, the producer is touched to tears every time he thinks of the unfortunate characters in the story.

  1. I didn’t read this article because I only watched two episodes yesterday so no spoilers!!! but the way they try to position Kelly as never 2.0 is the most annoying thing ever and makes me just dislike Kelly’s character. Also how they refuse to show Ali’s face in those flashback scenes so annoying. I’m not a fan of that so far but let me see how I feel after a few more episodes. Honestly if you wanted never wong just bring back Ali -_-

Owen and Vincent’s chemistry tho – still so freaking good.

    1. @tt23 I refuse to watch this show!

Don’t know how it’ll turn out but i won’t be surprised if they end up sabotaging Kelly for trying to be Never

      1. @conan2209 lol you should watch it, it’s not bad so far.

But I completely agree. I think the way they’ve written Kelly will sabotage her.

      2. @bubbles23 It’s $7 CAD each month, that’s taxes included.

It is if you want to watch the shows right away because they instantly put it on after airing subtitles and all. Also if you want to watch older shows again or catch up on them because you haven’t watched TVB in many years like myself. The app itself is still new so it has some glitches and no chrome cast yet (unless you have android TV) so those are down sides.

    2. @tt23 Kelly is nice enough, but doesn’t have the charisma to pull off Never 2.0. For me, the Never character would have been annoying if it weren’t for Ali’s portrayal.

      1. @potatochip totally agree – so many of Ali’s characters would have been annoying to watch but that’s why Ali is so special because of the way she’s able to turn each character into someone likeable and relatable.

don’t get me wrong I think Kelly’s acting is getting better but it’s because it’s so clear they want to make her never 2.0 that is going to make fans of the show not like her.

  2. aii…tvb, how thought provoking could it be nowadays…. not like the old times.

  3. I’m on episode 11 so no spoilers if you are further ahead but what does everyone think so far?

I’m a bit underwhelmed tbh… I can’t explain why, I feel like the show is missing something that LM1 had that made it special (not Ali lol but she is missed)… still enjoy Vincent/Owen/Sisley. Kelly is okay.

    1. @tt23
Vincent’s intense emotions in Legal Mavericks was absent in LM2. His sense of abandonment as a child, his estranged relationship with his father, his abandonment later in life when his true love left him etc resulted in his inability to form functional relationships and his preference to be emotionally detached. Vincent portrayed this so well. For example, how he cared about Gogo but constantly rejected any attempt to get close, how he left his dog out on the street and refused to stop the cab when the dog was chasing after it etc. Vincent executed these scenes extremely well, with a cruel heartlessness but yet you could feel his pain. Hope Man has overcome most of these so LM2 became a regular court and crime-busting drama. It is still great and I am loving every minute of it but I agree that it is “missing” something. (“Missing” is in inverted commas because I don’t think whatever which is “missing” is actually affecting the quality in any way.)

      1. @summerdale ok you nailed it. That’s what I’m missing. I agree with you I still think it’s good but it’s missing that part for me.

I also can’t decide if I like Kelly’s character or not. While I think her acting is better, they right off the bat tried to make her so similar to never that I can’t help but compare the two.
