Netflix Announces Live-Action Adaptation of “Yu Yu Hakusho”
1990’s hit manga series Yu Yu Hakusho <幽遊白書> will enter a new realm of media as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Netflix announced on Sunday that it will be adapting the Japanese manga series into a live-action series, the third manga series to be adapted by Netflix into live-action after 2018’s Death Note and the upcoming Cowboy Bebop.
However, unlike Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, which were re-written with a Western setting, Yu Yu Hakusho will stay true to its source material and will be set in Japan, with an all-Japanese cast.
Yu Yu Hakusho was first published in 1990, on the 51st edition of WEEKLY JUMP. It was an immediate success, and was hailed as one of the greatest manga series of the 1990’s generation, alongside Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk. Yu Yu Hakusho ended its run in 1994. The anime adaptation aired from 1992 to 1994. Two animated feature films were released in 1993 and 1994.
The story follows Yusuke, a teenage delinquent who is killed in a car accident while attempt to save a child’s life. Koenma, son of the ruler of the Underworld, revives Yusuke and grants him the title of “Underworld Detective” to investigate cases involving demons in the human world.

Can’t wait to watch:)
Alice in Borderland was based on a manga
@tinlunlau that was a freaking good show… can’t wait for season 2!
@vodka Netflix Yuyu Hakusho is apparently going to be produced by the second team that made Alice in Borderland.
@tinlunlau *same team
i heard that they pretty much ruined the death note. i am glad that they are keeping it japanese. it’d be weird to see japanese demons in a western setting. if they want to adapt a manga into a western setting, they could just stick to ones based on such.
Yes finally something that is kept to its original… the next one that would be epic is “Dragon Ball” I’m pretty sure eventually at some point they’ll do it, with all the technology of ours days all can be done!
Eek! Both excited this isnadapted and scared they will fudge up one of my fave animes.
