Ruco Chan and Alice Chan Star in New Cop Drama
Andrew Yuen, Alice Chan, and Ruco Chan are caught in a love triangle in the new drama.
Making an appearance at TVB Studios for the costume fitting of his new drama Guardian of the Dark Night <黯夜守護者>, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) is excited to be working with his past ATV colleagues, Alice Chan (陳煒) and Andrew Yuen (袁文傑). This marks the first time that Ruco and Alice are partnering in a TVB drama together though both artistes have been filming for the station for 10 years.
Guardian of the Dark Night is produced by Stephen Tsui (徐正康), who was behind the wildly successful War of the Genders <男親女愛> and To Catch The Uncatchable <棟篤神探>. Stephen and Ruco previously partnered in 2014’s All That is Bitter is Sweet <大藥坊>.
In Guardian of the Dark Night, Ruco will portray an undercover cop sharing romantic lines with Alice and Sharon Chan (陳敏之). Alice portrays a sheriff in the Central District Crime Unit who is dating Andrew, but later gets involved with Ruco.
Absent at the TVB Anniversary Awards for two years, Ruco said his appearance this year will depend on TVB’s decision. “I didn’t received notification from the company yet. If I’m invited, I’ll definitely go. I haven’t attended in two years, because I didn’t have any series aired during those times. There won’t be any this year either–we’ll need to wait until next year,” the actor said.
Though he already has three dramas waiting to air, none of Ruco’s dramas were released in the past two years. Asked if he feels upset, Ruco replied, “Of course not–it’s a good thing. Not just for the sake of viewers, but even I think it’s too much if I have three to four broadcast series a year. It’s harder to have room for improvement and to play a character well. My schedule was previously like that, but I’ve slowed down in the past two years. This way, viewers will have a better selection of shows to watch and the company has an opportunity to promote newcomers.”
Since he was not nominated for Best Actor this year, Ruco has his eyes on veteran actor Lau Dan (劉丹). Although TV King Vincent Wong (王浩信) is a hot favorite as well, Ruco said his vote will go towards an actor who has not won before.

OMG. RUCO AND ALICE LOOKS SO “PERFECT MATCH” IN TERMS OF HAVING THEM TOGETHER AS MAIN CASTS. IT GIVES ME THAT ATV LOOK OR “CLASSICAL” FEELING. THIS SHOWS THAT IT WOULD DEFINITELY BE A GREAT SERIES!

Not really a classical look since Ruco wasn’t even that big when at ATV. Could call it as a Andrew and Alice reunion from their 1st ever ATV series ‘The Snow is Red’ though..
@jimmyszeto Oh my goodness, that series brings back memories. I hated the rape plots. Mimi Kung was in there too, now if they can have her in this series, that would be awesome. I started Hong Kong Love stories. Enjoying the grittiness and poignant story lines.

Mimi was one of my crushes when I washed older series as a child. Hong Kong Love Stories was excellent. I hope they they make it a yearly thing. Yes. The snow is red. Alice and Andrew so young and inexperienced then. Alice was really beautiful in ancient costume..
It is nice to finally see a different combination of actors. Even though they haven’t even been aired yet; Ruco, Joel, Elaine and Natalie were getting tedious.
This is a refreshing lead cast! I really like Alice so I’m excited to see her in this. Poor Ruco is not having much luck for TVB these days. Didn’t realize it’s been two years since his last drama aired.
I also don’t mind Andrew — I enjoy him on lo and behold
Now this is a refreshing cast. All solid actors. I’ve seen people say that if Andrew had took on more dramas he’d have the same success as Ruco, which I think so too.
Someone please cast Elena Kong in a lead role. I’d much rather watch these “older” good supporting actresses step it up instead of seeing Ko Ling and Katy non-stop.
Side note y’all seem to really like HK love stories but I can’t stand Katy. She looks like Joey’s older sis than his gf. So far this drama series seems like a rehashed version of L’Escargot… Maybe I haven’t watched enough yet?

Joey was actually the weak link in HK love stories. Very robotic acting. He was saved by his excellent voice…

@bubbles23 The only similarity between HK Love Stories & L’Escargot is the housing issues in HK. Other than that, HK Love Stories focuses on love in diff generations. I also feel like the plot and story is more focused. In L’Escargot, the relationship between Michael Tse’s and Linda was weird
@luye Joey isn’t bad to watch, maybe I’m being superficial but Katy’s face is not attractive at all. Brian’s stubble/ mustache is awful on him. He is really dull too. Only Jacquelin and guy who plays Henry is entertaining. Don’t think I’ll continue with it the character set up is really boring and stereotypical. Who actually washes the laundry for their father in law?? That’s some 1900s crap.

L’Escargot was good but it was just a drama and didn’t have the depth of HK Love Stories. Also what was all that about…Ron finally realises that Linda slept with Michael Tse twice as gratitude for using to help Ron’s debt. He blamed himself in the end and forgave her. It was clear that Linda had feeling for Michael for a good period of time and the story shows that. That story was a mess….
