Cutie Mui Remembers Happy Memories With Savio Tsang

Cutie Mui (梅小惠) was saddened by the passing of ex-boyfriend, actor SavioTsang (曾偉權), whom she dated for 13 years. The 54-year-old former actress shared that Savio was her only love. Despite the painful breakup, Cutie does not hold any resentment as he was an important chapter in her life, “I won’t forget him. Although he is gone, the memory is still here.”

Meeting at ATV, Savio was attracted by Cutie’s cheerful personality. They started living together when Cutie was 21 years old, and he was always very protective towards her. “He was my first love, so I was very focused on him. However, there was a lot of pressure on Savio to date a 21-year-old girl.”

Getting Over Breakup

Despite their long-term relationship, Cutie and Savio had different visions of the future. She wanted to get married, while he wanted to focus on his career more. A third party eventually came between them, and the breakup took an emotional toll on Cutie, who recalled having to call her sister to help her move 10 luggage bags out of Savio’s house.

“The whole time, I didn’t cry. It wasn’t until I got home from work and saw that [my sister] had already unpacked everything for me that I burst out crying. I realized a lot of people love me, so I told myself to be strong,” Cutie recalled.

Thankful that she had work to keep herself busy while being surrounded by her close friends Louis Yuen (阮兆祥) and Elvina Kong (江欣燕), Cutie took half a year to mend her pain. “Sometimes, I drive by places that reminded me of Savio, but luckily I had a job and a family who supported me. These are life experiences–when you look back, you are able to smile [because of the true happiness I once experienced]. In fact, I was very lucky, because I didn’t do anything stupid or destructive things.”

After their breakup, Savio continued to star in dramas produced by Cutie’s sister, Mui Siu Ching (梅小青). Since Savio was a good actor, Cutie did not mind and believed their past history should not limit his career. She realized that both of them suffered after the breakup, “When we separated, I wasn’t the only one who was hurt–he was hurting too.”

Putting the relationship behind her, Cutie said, “I believe in fate. Before when I would go shop for groceries, I would see Savio outside playing ball or see him at the parking lot. But once we broke up, we never crossed paths again.”

Hopeful for the Future

Finding a rewarding career in marketing consulting and advertising design, Cutie has remained single but she still believes in love. Joking that she had many suitors, Cuties said, “You ask if I want to have a partner? I definitely want to, especially as I get older. I will leave it to fate. I used to be sheltered and was always protected. It wasn’t until I stepped [away from the entertainment industry] that I realized that I enjoy my life and I am not scared. There is more time for me to explore.”

While her relationship with Savio did not have a happy ending, Cutie kept the happy memories that they shared, “Since we were together for 13 years, I will only remember the good moments. The next person will not be like [Savio], so I will be more careful with how I interact with him. I may not necessarily ask him to take care of me. Instead, I want him to have his own opinions.”

In the meantime, Cutie makes sure to take good care of herself with regular exercise and checkups. She is very close with her family, and makes sure they are not worried about her. “My whole family is very united, and we would help each other out.”
