Hubert Wu Signs Contract With Shaw Brothers
Eric Tsang‘s (曾志偉) appointment as TVB’s Deputy General Manager is already making a ripple of changes across the station. As Eric is set to oversee variety show and music production, including guiding Voice Entertainment, many are wondering how the studio’s singers will be affected. Amid the management shakeup, Hubert Wu (胡鴻鈞) revealed that his contract with the music label has ended and he will be moving over to TVB’s sister company, Shaw Brothers.
Despite rumors of discord with Herman Ho (何哲圖), Hubert wishes the former CEO of Voice Entertainment the best of luck in his new music business and hopes there will be an opportunity to work together in the future.
Hubert became a star after winning first runner-up in TVB’s 2010 singing competition, The Voice 2 <超級巨聲 2>. Signing with Voice Entertainment, he released many popular hits over the years, such as “One Life One Heart” <一生一心>, “Butterflies” <化蝶>, “I Was Here” <到此一遊>, and “Heaven and Earth” < 天地不容>. Lending his voice to catchy theme songs, Hubert won Most Popular Male Singer at the 2020 Jade Solid Gold Music Awards.
Expanding his acting career, Hubert performances in The Exorcist’s Meter <降魔的> and the sequel The Exorcist’s 2nd Meter <降魔的2.0> were well-received. This year, Hubert takes on his first leading role in TVB’s remake of Return of the Cuckoo <十月初五的月光> alongside Regina Ho (何依婷), Joey Law (羅天宇), and Michelle Yim (米雪).
Though Hubert wants to continue his music endeavors, signing with Shaw Brothers may signal that greater development be placed on his onscreen performances. He promised to share more details about his plans after he has settled in at Shaw Brothers.
