Lee Seung Gi’s “Mouse” Concludes With Emotional Ending
*Spoilers
With Lee Seung Gi delivering his most intense performance to-date, Mouse aired its gripping finale on May 20. The drama took a dark twist after revealing that police officer Jeong Ba Reum (Lee Seung Gi) is a psychopathic serial killer. Viewership ratings climbed to 6.2 percent as his identity is divulged and whether he will get redemption for his crimes.
Head of the mysterious OZ Organization, Choi Young Shin (Jung Ae Ri), had orchestrated various events to shape Jeong Ba Reum into a psychopathic serial killer. Pointing a gun at her head, Choi Young Shin confessed that she was motivated to use Jeong Ba Reum as a test subject, so she can push her political agenda and rid the world of psychopaths. Jeong Ba Reum decided against killing Choi Young Shin but left her tied up for the police to arrive.
Jeong Ba Reum’s aunt provided evidence and publicly disclosed Choi Young Shin’s crimes in court. Although Choi Young Shin was eventually pardoned, she was shortly killed by a driver upon her release.
Finally feeling remorseful for his crimes, Jeong Ba Reum turned himself in to the police and received his lifetime sentence. There, Jeong Ba Reum came face-to-face with his father Han Seo Joon (Ahn Jae Wook). Knowing his own father is also a serial killer, Jeong Ba Reum had the opportunity to kill him.
As Jeong Ba Reum suffered alone in isolation, he also found closure with the lives he affected. Former partner Moo Chi (Lee Hee Joon) paid a visit and noted that his eyes finally are filled with emotion. Jeong Ba Reum’s former friend Oh Bong Yi (Park Ju Hyun) also visited and declared that she will never forgive him. Having lost everything in his life, Jeong Ba Reum replied, “I’m sorry. I will be reborn as a normal person.”
In the final scene, Jeong Ba Reum imagined sitting at a church with a child that resembled his younger self. In the final moments of his life, he prayed and said, “You are no longer a monster.”
