26 Hong Kong Artistes Appear at CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival

With the recent crackdown on controversial artistes in the Chinese entertainment industry, the government and many official media outlets have begun cleaning up the industry image. As authorities are targeting younger idols and frenzied fan culture, CCTV has been promoting dramas with more positive messages and cast with healthy public images. At yesterday’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, older stars took center stage over younger idols.

It was interesting to note that established Hong Kong artistes including: Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒), Joey Yung (容祖兒), William Chan (陳偉霆), Gillian Chung (鍾欣潼), Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), Carmen Lee (李若彤), David Lui (呂方), Simon Yam (任達華), Kenny Kwan (關智斌), Jordan Chan (陳小春), Chilam Cheung (張智霖), Michael Tse (謝天華), Jerry Lamb (林曉峰), and Edmond Leung (梁漢文) were present at the festival.

In contrast to past years, popular artistes such as Wang Yibo (王一博), Karry Wang (王俊凱), and Cai Xukun (蔡徐坤) were all absent.

However, not all young A-listers were absent, as Jackson Wang (王嘉爾), Nana Ou Yang (歐陽娜娜), Guang Xiaotong (關曉彤), and Chen Feiyu (陳飛宇) were part of the celebrations.

The inclusion of artistes such as Liu Haocun (劉浩存) and Hua Chenyu (華晨宇) did leave viewers feel puzzled. Although Liu Haocun is director Zhang Yimou’s (張藝謀) newest favorite, the young actress was surrounded by controversy this year when her mother was exposed for improper dance training and causing a young girl to be permanently paralyzed. Hua Chenyu, on the other hand, was pegged with negativity when the media unveiled his past relationship with singer Zhang Bichen (張碧晨) and their daughter.
