Lisa Tse Adjusts to Living in Hong Kong

Moving halfway across the globe to jumpstart her entertainment career, Miss Hong Kong 2020 winner Lisa Tse (謝嘉怡) had to make some major adjustments and acquire new skills. Although Hong Kong is very fast-paced compared to her hometown in Scotland, the former surgical nurse has eagerly embraced the changes as means of her personal growth. 

A favorite for her sweet personality since her pageant days, Lisa’s popularity continued to grow after joining Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛．回家之開心速遞>. Although her father was born in Hong Kong, he hired a tutor to help Lisa improve her Cantonese fluency. Putting in a year of hard work, Lisa’s Cantonese has visibly improved.

In October, Lisa began her YouTube channel where she shares snippets of her life. In the latest video, Lisa and her father spoke about the lifestyle differences between Scotland and Hong Kong. Although Lisa has already lived in Hong Kong for over a year, she is still not used to all the high-rise buildings. Preferring more open space and fresh air, she now lives in a village house with a balcony.

Despite the tight space in Hong Kong, she loves the fast-paced lifestyle and efficiency of the city. In contrast, it would take her around 25 minutes by car to get to the nearest fast food restaurants in Scotland, while local buses only run every hour.

However, Lisa had to adapt to a new way of doing things in Hong Kong. When paying utility bills in Scotland, she was able to set up automatic deductions from her bank account, but she was not used to needing to manually pay for electric bills in Hong Kong. Lisa initially felt exasperated, but fortunately her cousin helped teach her.

Given that there are so many new experiences, Lisa equates herself to a puppy learning a lot of new skills on her own. She has definitely grown a lot in the time she has been in Hong Kong.
