Theories for “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” Ending
Netflix/ tvN’s Twenty-Five Twenty-One starring Kim Tae Ri and Nam Joo Hyuk premiered on February 12 and its initial episode received 6.3 percent viewership. It has been on a steady rise with the fourth episode achieving 8.8 percent viewership, beating out JTBC’s Forecasting Love and Weather starring Park Min Young and Song Kang.
Twenty-Five Twenty-One depicts a youthful love story set during the South Korea’s financial crisis. Na Hee Do (Kim Tae Ri), 18, meets Baek Yi Jin (Nam Joo Hyuk), 22, for the first time in 1998, and the story follows the trauma and misunderstandings between the two. While trying to keep their dreams alive despite the turbulent times, they meet again three years later.
Kim Tae Ri’s character is a fencing prodigy, but unfortunately her high school fencing team is disbanded due to budgeting deficit. Determined to not let circumstances deprive her dreams, she transfers to her fencing idol’s school and joins their fencing team.
Although Kim Tae Ri is already 31 years old, her lively and innocent portrayal of her youthful character makes her very convincing as a high school student.
While only four episodes have aired, there has been a lot of speculation over whether the main couple will have a happy ending together. Told through flashbacks, the first episode revealed Kim Tae Ri’s daughter’s last name as Kim, which implies that her character may not marry Nam Joo Hyuk’s character. However, some netizens reasoned that a happy ending is still possible, as Nam Joo Hyuk may have taken on his mother’s maiden name since his parents had pretended to divorce due to their debts.
