Mandy Wong Cast in Supporting Role in Jonathan Chik’s New Drama
Former TVB producer Jonathan Chik‘s (戚其義)’s latest Chinese drama The Assassin <隱娘> commenced filming in February. The cast had travelled to Changbai Mountain for outdoor filming, but the official cast names were not revealed until the blessing ceremony yesterday. The cast was revealed to include Qin Lan (秦嵐), Zheng Yecheng (鄭業成), Hu Lianxin (胡連馨), and Shaun Tam (譚俊彥). Mandy Wong (黃智雯) and Cheryl Yang (楊謹華) are also part of the cast, but were not able to attend the ceremony as they were still in quarantine.
Qin Lan, Zheng Yecheng, and Shaun will be lead characters with Cheryl and Mandy listed eighth and ninth respectively on the casting list. Many fans are upset and feel that Mandy is being disrespected, as she has been in the industry for 15 years and she won Best Actress in Malaysia and Most Favorite Female Character for her role in Threesome <三個女人一個「因>.
Although she will not have many scenes, Mandy will make a “special performance,” similar to Gallen Lo (羅嘉良) and Yvonne Yung (翁虹) in the drama. As the guest stars are of high caliber and producer Jonathan Chik is known for his detailed works, fans hope the new drama would allow Mandy to successfully break into the Chinese market.
It turns out that Mandy’s role in The Assassin was originally meant for Samantha Ko (高海寧). As Samantha refused to renew her contract with TVB, the station decided to replace her with Mandy. To prioritize Mandy’s participation in Jonathan Chik’s new drama, TVB will wrap up her scenes in Hidden Door <隱門> when she returns to Hong Kong.

This drama seems interesting, it’s nice to have some HK actors and I’ve like Qin Lan from Story of Yanxi Palace
Is she really being disrespected when you compare her to the heavyweights in China? FYI Shaun started acting before her but his success was slow albeit he had a veteran actor father. Mandy worked really hard and it’s professionally trained actress but you never wanna be someone who hits success early and stagnates at 40. Once you stagnate at 40, it’s really hard to climb up because younger and better looking and more popular actress will beat you out. Also, Cheryl Yang is now internationally recognized because of her Netflix drama Light the Night. I like Mandy but saying she’s being disrespected is an exaggeration at best
Sorry to said that but mostly actors from HK, in China, they will have no big roles… As Mandy level, she will be 4-5 level actor in China…
Disrespected? This is such a win for her to be casted in this drama.
These fans are funny.
