“Twenty-Five Twenty-One” To Have a Bittersweet Ending?
South Korean drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One starring Kim Tae Ri and Nam Joo Hyuk is heading to its finale this weekend as fans finally get closure on the characters’ relationship.
The coming-of-age drama is set during the 1997’s financial crisis and follows the relationship between Na Hee Do (Kim Tae Ri) and Baek Yi Jin (Nam Joo Hyuk) as they both chase after their own dreams.
Na Hee Do is a fencing prodigy but her high school team is forced to disband due to budgeting constraints. In order to pursue her passion, Na Hee Do makes the decision to transfer to fencing idol’s school and joins their team. There Na Hee Do meets Baek Yi Jin, a young man who works hard to become a sports reporter after his family loses everything during the financial crisis.
Throughout the drama, fans cheered for Na Hee Do and Baek Yi Jin as they overcame hurdles and misunderstanding to become a couple. As the romantic and sweet moments set in, the drama throws a curveball in episode 14 with a time jump. In 2009, Baek Yi Jin is now a news anchor and is congratulating fencing champion Na Hee Do, “From the beginning, I have been cheering for you. Although it is late, I want to congratulate you on your wedding.”
Although the bombshell gives an indication that Na Hee Do and Baek Yi Jin may not end up marrying each other, the trailer for episode 15 sets the opposite tune. Instead, the trailer teases fans by showing footages of the couples in their happier times as they vow to “love each other without regrets.”
With only two episodes left to air, many fans are bracing for a bittersweet ending while some are holding out hope for a plot twist that will result in the couple staying together. Thankfully, fans will not have to wait long as the drama is set to conclude this weekend.

Honestly, when earlier on the daughter didn’t see baek yijin as her father in his youth, and when the mother mentioned yijin is back and hee do looking strained or whatever, and that’s barely half way thru the series, isn’t that already a given he didn’t end up with her? What’s so surprising? Unless the daughter really couldn’t recognise her own father in his youth. 2 more ep to go but the precious ep was so draggy and now we have another at least 1 ep if lovey dovey before the inevitable. I feel at this point the series is wringing the love story which is tiring to watch. I like yu rim’s story but even that is… well… let’s just say kdramas time and time again really defame their own country’s social system welfare classes whatever.
