Tony Hung Felt “Thorns” in His Heart When Dating Natalie Tong
Married since 2018, Tony Hung (洪永城) became a father last December. Aside from his affable hosting personality and dramatic roles, Tony is also known for his four-year dating relationship with Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) and longtime friendship with onscreen partner Priscilla Wong (黃翠如). In a recent interview, Tony openly shares how he feels about the two actresses, as well as struggles in his early career.
Was Cursed for His Poor Hosting Skills
On Bob Lam‘s (林盛斌) talk show MIB: Men in Binlo <人夫放假約出去滾>, Tony revealed his rocky start at Hong Kong Cable Television after graduating in 2005. As his Cantonese was not clear and he often forgot to look directly at the camera, Tony was criticized for not being charismatic and humorous enough in variety shows. “However, you grow up slowly when you’re in this environment being yelled and cursed by the crew every day.” Tony subsequently reached out to his colleague Luk Ho Ming (陸浩明) to get some hosting tips.
Priscilla Wong is a Great Partner
His career finally saw a positive change when he found great chemistry with onscreen partner Priscilla Wong (黃翠如). Tony’s girlfriend at the time was worried about his compatibility with Priscilla, and asked if there was anything between them. Tony joked that he felt nothing for Priscilla, but he could not speak for her. Bob asked again seriously if there was ever a moment that he liked Priscilla. Tony stayed silent for a few seconds and answered with a slight smile, “This answer may make you feel a little disappointed but no, we’re really just work partners.”
Although there are no romantic feelings between them, they do have a very strong friendship. After joining TVB, Priscilla encountered some unhappy events and they spoke on the phone for a few consecutive nights. “She cried as she talked, and I was emotional. We have always supported each other. If you have any troubles, I am here for you. If I have any issues in the future, then you can help me. It isn’t easy to be a woman in the entertainment industry.”
On Dating Natalie Tong
As Tony had to face a lot of criticism in recent years, Bob asked if “The Best Girlfriend” (alluding to Natalie Tong 唐詩詠) had supported him, Tony responded that she did. “It’s important. We did face obstacles together. There were unfortunately too many thorns and too much hurt that built up, and it was hard to repair the damage. It was hard to continue.”
Asked if he had many girlfriends when he was younger, Tony expressed that relationships between men and women can be complicated, but he has never mixed up the roles of people in his life. When younger, he was also very introverted and lacked confidence so he was not good at communicating.
